Most Boring Rapture ever!

You're a mediator? You're spewing as much indecipherable crap as everybody else in this thread bashing religion. Is that what a mediator does? Bash one side, in favor of the other?

This thread was intended as humor. It had nothing to do with religion of any kind. It had to do with one person's outlandish statement that the world would end on May 21st at 6 PM...precisely. Yes, there were followers who got caught up in this outlandish statement, but that's on them, for listening to and believing this elderly "preacher".

I don't see the reason why some people are trying to make this into a religious bashing thread. It's never the believers bashing the non-believers. It always seems to be the other way around. I guess that might be because the believers have something to believe in. The non-believers are just left out in the cold with nothing. Jealous, maybe?

Point taken about the finances. I might be misinformed. Kindly highlight my indecipherable crap. Highlight my bashing, and I'll take ten minutes to reconsider or rewrite my position.

The point of contention in this thread for JM (i think) was that the recent rapture hype was totally ludicrous because the bible says noone will know when. (these are my own words).

I like satin, and , and I do think JM escalated impolitely (and maybe more than once). I'm trying to represent one position more moderately, and slower, as I have more time to spend on it today.

I'm not even jealous. Don't tell me I'm spouting crap and riling people and then give me this bullshit. What exactly is there to be jealous of? <-- Non rhetorical, please reply.

I would like you to address these there points in your reply

1. Highlight my indecipherable crap (with a quote to make it easy for me)
2. Highlight my bashing (again, quote please)
3. You stated that I'm jealous, please confirm what I'm missing.

Perhaps, it does seem that way to you. But that's your misapprehension talking.

Now that is an astonishing conclusion. I love it! It's going into my file of "wierd shit for losers to spout" in my word processor.

Of course it's not true. Why would you see it that way? So, did you come to join in on the bashing? Oh, sorry...that's not happening.

So, because atheists are always right, I guess I'm a loser now. Cool. I've never been a loser before. It might be interesting. And of course, I'm a man and you don't like them much either, do you. I'll bet you have tiger blood, too. Yadda-yadda-yadda. I'm starting to really enjoy how this thread has morphed. :D

Before we move on, go ahead and address my three bullet points related to our discussion.

Ancient Greek civilization had an enormous influence on western culture, philosophy, etc., as well.

Hopefully no one will get their panties in a twist if I say I find the greek gods silly in large measure.

She was adorable.

Well duhhhh. And I like the Greek myths (heh heh, funny word in this thread)! Panties officially twisted!

Wait, that sounds weird.

Those ideas are not exclusive to the bible, they are pretty much universal in every religion. The belief that they are Christian property is a good example of the feebleminded sheepiness of religious folk.

I think the ideas "have held up as long as they have" because they are HUMAN ideas. Not distinct to one religion or even all religions collectively. Human ideas, borne of an innate capacity for empathy and pragmatism.

Well, I think there are ideas unique to each of the major religions, and it's interesting to learn about the ways in which they're different and alike. But I digress. Christianity obviously doesn't have the monopoly on good ideas.

Organized religion is simply a vehicle for recording and harnessing those ideas, to whatever purpose and advantage the recorders and harnessers see fit.

I do not believe that all religious folks are feeble minded sheep. But I agree with Stella, that religion's claim of ownership over decency, morality, and good character, is absurd.

Yes, yes, agree. I was not suggesting otherwise.

For the record, I'm agnostic. Not atheist. And have absolutely no delusions of the capacity to change your mind.

But since you claim to know my motives, and dislike them so, I'll remind you, sd... the good lord invented the ignore button for a reason. ;)

Instead of coming in here and being combative to posts you seem to object to, follow your own advice.

You forgot the bit where I am a nasty person full of ugliness. :)

I told you why I was mixed up in our conversation. You said "Thanks for clearing that up".

Why hold a grudge when I was mistaken and admitted it?

Quit trying to distract me, woman!

By the way, I meant to tell you, I was at a dinner party a few weeks ago and saw a woman wearing a dress that looks exactly, precisely, like the one in your av.

I knew it wasn't you, because we had just been introduced and her name wasn't intothewoods, or even itw! But I was surprised, amused, delighted and frankly distracted by the similarity nevertheless. Long way of explaining...

I was busted for staring, for the first time in ages & ages. Busted for staring! And yes, I'm blaming you.

For someone who insists that others indulge her point of view, you certainly have a hard time with it yourself. You've ignored every post I've made in this thread that couldn't be twisted into a personal attack on yourself. You continually ignore the content of posts in favour of satisfying your righteous indignation. I found that incredibly disrespectful.

I came into this thread laughing; I thought that was the point, poking fun at the places where belief can take people. You went off half-cocked and have yet to respond to anything I have actually said to you. That's what you cleared up for me, your intentions and personality. But whatever, this is the internet and no one is ever 100% present, thank cod, because everyone in this thread, myself not exempted looks like a jerk.

Hold thy tongue, sir! Lest She smite you, with a caffeinated thunderbolt of Breakfast Blend.

Okay, I told this story over on the GB, but... I went biking last night, maybe an hour after the "rapture." It was at a busy park. I came around a path, and...

Someone had LAID OUT CLOTHES AND SHOES. :D Two sets, in the middle of the path. Seriously. In human shapes. It was meant to mimic two people who had been out walking, and had been "taken." I laughed out loud. I didn't know if it was a joke (probably), or perpetrated by true believers, eager to build rapture cred.

Did you run over them on your bike?

Did you run over them on your bike?

I swerved, on the off chance they weren't fully raptured yet; I thought there could be, like, a leg or something still in there.

I went back the next day, to search for wallets, as Pointless had urged me to do, and alas, the clothes were gone.

I thought, maybe clothes have their own rapture, where the ones who have accepted J. Crew as their personal savior will disappear at a certain hour, wherever they are. Some humans will be suddenly nude, while others of us will be stuck with sinful jeans and cardigans.

I don't expect anyone to indulge my point of view anymore than anyone else's. I only hope people would not turn a non combative funny thread into a personal soapbox for antagonistic preaching.

I have responded to the things I said to you and that's an easily observable fact. I admitted that I was mistaken in our conversation TWICE NOW because you posted in a decidedly odd order and quoted me in strange ways, making me think that you were calling my parents and my Dom a hypocrite, this has been explained to you very clearly already.

I haven't ignored you, I responded to you as appropriately as I could. I'm sorry for being confused and taking you wrong but if you look AT THE POSTS IN ORDER it sincerely looked like you were saying that.

If you don't want to accept my apology, that's your choice and I accept it as you're a stranger on a website and have options as to whether you want to be social with me, it's not going to break my heart if you don't. However, I won't beg for you to accept my apology after I explained myself very politely to you already.

If you want to continue being argumentative with me after I've explained myself and apologized multiple times, your attitude is your own responsibility.

How thoughtful of you. Being run over by a sinner on a bike while half-raptured could hurt.

As for the clothes, I would hope they would look towards someone of a higher designer than J.Crew as their savior. Maybe Chanel, or Dior? YSL? Or am I being brandist?

I think your fashion theology is flawed, Cleo. The true messiah is a simple carpenter of clothing.

Carpenter's pants?

Yes! And the spirit of the Lord descended upon him, like a dovetail joint.

Ok, I'll buy that. But still - J.Crew? I think that's a little too trendy.

I'm thinking maybe OshKosh?

Cleo, perhaps J. Crew is but a prophet. One shall come whose overalls he is not fit to unbuckle.

Plus, 20 percent off for converts on select Memorial Day prophetware!

Wow. Is there a full moon?

I think this is normal. It feels normal. Does this feel normal to everyone?

Oooops.... Sorry!

Let me here invoke someone-or-others law that says any stupid idea you can think up will be confused as legitimate fundamentalism.

Fuck. Was I just reverse trolled hard? asdflkhjsflkjsaflkjsalfkjnsafknmqwewqkn i don't even know what to think any more.

The joke is the people who have baseless beliefs and fight with each other abouth them (my imaginary friend is the lord of all YOUR imaginary friends. I once made my sister cry in an invisible swords duel because my imaginary sword was shinier.) I'm going out for a sundae and when I come back I will be less gullible.

Don't kid yourself. You've tried to explain your actions but you've never apologized. Why pretend you did? It's still everybody else's fault. Just go with it. You're so full of it.

Dang it, I missed both the fact that there was to be a rapture and a good debate about religion.

But wait...we can do this all over again in October, I hear.

What exactly are you talking about? What is everyone's fault? It's my fault that JM came in here on his own violation and quoted me directly and started preaching at me? Okay, you want to blame me for the actions that he took of his own free will and you can...that doesn't make you right.

I'm okay with being done wasting my time on you.
