New Adventure, New Thread (M)

with apologies to Anna Lee Walters

While I may be adept at catching the light as it streams through the blinds and leaves marks like an old noir film to highlight the curves of my body, I am most certainly not smart enough or prudent enough to take steps to prevent it's harsh rays from baking my skin

I was fortunate enough to go sailing this weekend, to be out on the water with just the force of the wind driving the boat on the vast blue lake.

But I foolishly thought that my body was ready to soak up all that glorious warm sunlight.

As you can tell from the photo, I was wrong.

Ouch! The sun can be brutal! :(

I was too distracted by the wind and the adrenaline to feel the sun on my back, then the beers I had after getting back in masked whatever pain there might have been.

Long passed are the days of my youth when hot, red flesh turned to golden brown overnight.

So far so good, and I seem to be on the mend.

Of course, if you want to come over and spread some aloe lotion I my back I will not say 'no'

😈

Tsk, tsk...

You need someone to rub a bit of aloe and ice across your back, sweetie. I can tie you down and do it for you, if you'd like. :cattail:

As much as I am of the mindset to 'walk it off' or 'rub some dirt on it' (or superglue/use duct tape and toilet paper on a cut) I would not need to be tied down in order for you to administer such helpful attention..

I will not fight it--
Unless you would enjoy that
😈

Heal

A friend here recently talked about scars and that got me thinking about just how damaged my body is from doing some very stupid and unsafe things.

I have shown off the unsightly bump of my shoulder quite often but never really showcased my scars.

I am not ashamed of them, but I am not proud of them either. Perhaps I grew weary of telling their stories (and the more interesting Fabrications when I grew tired of the truth or sensed that people wanted more out of the story) so I do not hide them, but I also rarely present them.

I have argued with a table saw over a piece of wood, used a utility knife in the dumbest way possible, and been just a really dumb, clumsy kid.

So here are a few of my scars, just because someone asked.

What's important is you're still here, scars are just a road map of your life.

Nice! They look healthy!

Nice! They look healthy!

Thank you very much, again!

The one of my belly was meant to showcase the scar from my hernia repair surgery.

I think that it is a testament to the surgeon and the healing power of time that it is really tough to spot.

As I surmised, every one likes flowers!

Weather With You

As I have said before, meteorology plays a pretty big part in my day-to-day work life. While checking the weather this morning to see where I might have to put things and might have to do, I saw a notice from the National Weather Service that one of the sparkling rays of light who worked in the Chicago office had passed away.

A woman who was a tireless supporter of the positive power of government and a tremendous advocate for the marine industry is now gone. It makes me sad when good people like that are removed from this existence so quickly and unexpectely.

I suppose I can find some solace in the humor she brought to our annual meetings and the joy she brought when she was here with us.

Lovely perennial hibiscus, hon. They make such a show this time of year- especially the red ones. Thank you for sharing their beauty.

Thank you all for the kind words on my floral photography!

It is always a pleasure to have positive feedback

A light at the end of alley

We had our last busy weekend last week.

Now there is a chill in the air and the children are back in school.

Work days are shorter, calmer, and soon there will be fewer tours and employees. The end of the busy season is always bittersweet.

I may have more time to devote to depraved thoughts and dirty photos, and I may share them here.

Today I had a bit more free time than on most Saturdays, so I took some photos with a bunch of 'swag' given out last weekend.

I get an odd kick out of subverting some marketing hack's ploy to get folks to watch a TV show.

And to be honest I enjoy showing off.

The bowler hat is my favourite.. though.. I wonder...

Focus

In the mornings at work there are few blissful minutes where there are no screaming children, there are no beeping machines, there is no pop music and I am able to relax and appreciate the world around me.
And as I walk through the sublime house a local park to the ridiculous when you that is my workplace sometimes I ruminate on the ideas of focus and how to people can see the same thing so differently.

When we have different objectives it can tincture our observations. And so something that one person would see another would walk right by without appreciating.

Spiders freak me out, but I do love the artwork of their webs. Nature is amazing!!

Tolerances

Interesting and well-meeting art installations often come to where I work. The newest one is a 'ship of tolerance' meant to showcase the artwork of young children from around the world and how as different as we are we all crave the same things and we should all tolerate one another.

I watched as the Carpenters constructed this interesting fact simile of a boat and thought how fantastic it was to see something akin to ship building happening on the waterfront again.

It is a lovely sentiment and a worthwhile ideal. But I've seen the lake when harsh storms have whipped it into a frenzy of relentless waves and damaging winds and I have seen people angry and hungry and vicious for no reason.

I would never set sail in such a vessel

Silence is golden. A job done right is priceless

I had the brakes changed on my bicycle and for 2 months I have been dealing with squeal every time I try to stop. Alsot every stoplight, at every stop sign, every quick stop to avoid collision with a distracted pedestrian or thoughtless motorist it was the squeal of my brakes like a off-tune horn section blaring out. After countless fruitless visits to the local bike shop (a new set of pads to replace the 3 weeks old ones, draining the brake fluid) I took matters into my own hands, bought a new set of brake pads and put them on myself.

Now when I stop all there is a silence.

Vanity

This just seems like a decent photo and figured that I would share.

I actually really like spiders and think that while they are a little spooky they are definitely beautiful and skillful creatures. I could watch them for hours, especially while they craft their webs.

I have a neighbor who recently was standing in front of her front door looking perplexedly at her facade. Before I entered my house she asked if I would come over and help her deal with the spider That was sitting in the corner of her door frame. I figured it was the neighborly thing to do grab a piece mail and transport the interloper away from her front door.

A life working on boats has cured me of any arachnophobia I may have had in my youth.

Idle hands

I have some remarkably useless skills.
