New Literotica Story Page Feedback & Comments

A new option to tip Authors

So we can encourage our favorite authors to publish more stories

Similar Stories Box

Please try to add the author to stories listed in the similar stories box. Some authors I follow and others I don't read anymore. Being able to identify the author would help.

I like the suggestion of showing a method to identify a story as previously read. Personal previous rating for example. Putting the story tags on page 1 or somewhere easy to find without having to page thru to the end is a great idea. Hope you can follow through with that suggestion.

Overall the new format is ok.

Please Make tags show, at least as an option

Thank you for the feedback. :D The new Story Info Block has a tab for Tags. We don't show them by default since that might be a "spoiler" for some readers.

Here is where the tags are located at the start of each story:

attachment.php

Let me know if that's what you were looking for or if you had another way you'd like to see tags.

Thank you again.

1) Overall I like the look of the new page, especially at least the option to read the tag on the first page. However it would be nice to always see them. I get from your above comment that maybe not everyone wants that, though frankly I'd rather be spoiled away from certain content then the reverse. Still, it would at least be nice to have the option.

One suggestion would be to enable a vertical tab system. So that tabs would expand down, rather than switch. If that also included specific options as to whether or not each tab was visible/auto expanded on opening a story that could solve the issue of allowing those who want to see the tags and the info to do so, and those who don't want to see either to turn them off.

2) It would also be nice to be able to adjust the width of the story. On my very wide screen I wouldn't mind it being 25-40% wider and thus having to scroll less.

3) It would be great if tags were also available at least optionally on the story search and topic screens. (I'm assuming the story lists in the various topic areas will eventually be updated to match the new search format.) I've suggested this before, and given your comment re spoilers it would be fine if it were an option. But including a "Tag" item/button on the bottom next to the ratings, views, etc would be a great help. Something that when hovered over would expand to show the tags for the story. Frankly, at that point you could probably avoid an option for it, since the hover makes showing the tags a positive rather than passive action. Either way. The point is to make tags more readily available to help the readers if they want it.

I was reading Sister Golden Hair Delight CHAPTER 22 on the second page part of the text disappeared. While I was finally able to finish reading at the end I was unable to rate it. I had to turn off the option to rate the chapter.

Happens with the old pages too: if there is a net error part way through loading the page the story just stops: clicking the browser page reload usually sorts this one out.

Thank you for the feedback.

Are you seeing behavior where an author is added to your Followed list automatically when you Favorite a story? That should not happen. One other user reported the same thing, but we have not be able to track it down here.

Can you let me know what browser you are using and where you are clicking on the page?

Thank you again. :D

It was my imagination! The browser rerenders the bits following the Favorites button and that lets the brain assume the field has changed when it hasn't.

When we give up

What do your statistics algorithms do when we give up? eg. The story is so badly written it is too painful to continue? When it's that painful it is even more painful to muddle through to the last page just to give it the one star it doesn't deserve? Second person meta stories are so painful I never rate them so their authors never discover how some of us hate them so.

Problems with iOS Safari

I prefer to read on my iPhone, which was possible only in reader mode, as the normal website was too small. Being now responsive is a good progress. Just the font size is still a little too small, so it would be great if one could adjust the default font size in his options.

Using the reader mode is now much worse than before. Long time all pages were loaded at once and you could read the whole story without having to switch the pages. This is not possible any more, but that is probably a problem of safari. But now in the new beta version, you can't go into reader mode directly after switching to the next page, because you get again the text from the previous page. You have to switch the page and reload it then. Only after that the reader gets the correct text.

And there is also a problem when you switch to an other app or switch off your phone. Before, the most times you could continue at the line where you closed Safari. Now it nearly always starts again at the top of the page and you have to search again for the place you stopped reading.

Just saw, that the problem with the old text in reader mode is also in the MacOS Safari. You also have to reload the page to get the new text in the reader.

My comments on new story page

[I use a Lenovo notebook, with Windows 10 and Firefox browser]

I am most likely unlike most readers in that due to Internet limitations and free time issues I browse the list of stories, and download the ones I want to read. I then cut and paste into Microsoft Word documents for future unhurried reading. Quite problematic when stories span many pages, but convenient if a new chapter is released to a story I have downloaded previously. It also allows me to be warned if story is scathingly reviewed before wading through it. I noticed that with my set-up, later pages of the story change font and size. I assume many issues have to do with my specific browser and trying to insert html into a Word document.

With the new page, cutting and pasting now includes the tag line - very nice! Small nit: it now no longer includes a carriage return on first page and I have to remember to add it.

Overall the new page is nicer in appearance. Please in the future consider making it easier to download the file in one piece.

Thanks for your efforts to improve an already great site.

Comments

So now that I've been using that page for a few days I have to say the comment function needs to change.

You used to be able to see something around the first 5-7 comments (I believe) and then you could use the load more or see all.

The load more on this page brings up another 5 comment. And then another 5. There are no other options

At that rate you're clicking and clicking and clicking to see the full comment stream. It'll kill some of the discussions that go on between commenters and it's a larger load on your computers than say 15-20 at a time. Also you add in the clicking to see more of the longer comments and ….:(

Left/Right Arrows

It might make sense to align the next/Previous page arrows with the left and right text margin. On the phone/tablet I expand the font to take the whole text page leaving out the margins thus the arrows are partially off the visible page.

New Story Page

I will probably never use it. I'm perfectly happy with the fairly short and concise New Stories list. If I want more info about a story I go directly to the story and read a bit.

Something I'd really appreciate is the ability to never see certain kinds of stories in the New Stories List. For example, I always skip over illustrated stories, BDSM stories, and Audio stories.

Otherwise I find this site quite nice to use.

Story tags need to be on FIRST page

As long as you're redesigning the story page, you should move the Story Tags to the first page, not the last page. So often stories get panned because they contain a sexual element that the reader did not see coming, because NOBODY clicks to the last page to check the tags before reading a story. Moving them to the first page would give readers the info they need to decide if the want to read the story or not.

Other than that, the new page looks good.

Bookmarks not working

Likes: I like the story being in the center of the page. I also like the different page options listed at the bottom. The story info displaying near the top is a nice touch if I come back to a story if I pause part way through as a reminder along with Favorites and Views.

Bug: If I want to bookmark a story, the bookmark button at the top does nothing. I initially thought it might be uBlock Origin disabling it however even after turning off uBlock I still cannot bookmark a story. After several attempts it may or may not finally work.

Request: A dark mode would be a nice feature though that may be found as a global browser setting it would be nice for stories or site options.

They actually are. If you look at the box where the story information is, one of the options there is to see the tags at the very top of page 1.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you mean that you zoom past the actual white margins inside of the text area? We align the pagination arrows to the same block size as the text, but there are margins for the text for readability. I guess the best thing to do if you crop off the sides of the page would be to use the numbers in the pagination. I can't think of a way to move the arrows in that doesn't make them look strange when people don't zoom in.

Can you let me know what browser you are using where the bookmark icon doesn't work? I tested it in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari and it works, but you may be using a different browser or different version that I am testing with.

Thank you!

We are working on a way for readers to quickly change font size now. We had planned to roll that out with the dark mode, but it seems that a number of people are used to the old font size and would like to be able to adjust the font size on the new page. Hope to have something for you to test soon. :D

could you please put the tags on the first page (or every page) and not just on the last page? It's currently quite hard to find out if a story contains stuff that's interesting (or worse: disgusting).

Never mind, just saw the new Story-Info panel, which contains it all. Awesome work!

Would it be possible to favourite or "ban" certain tags, so that this could be highlighted in the Story-Info panel, too?

Love the redesign...
1) Having all the Story Info box off to the side on page 1 is very useful. Can we also include the star rating in it?
2) Reading Lists was one of my favourite recent additions, and now having the ability to add/remove stories to/from my Reading Lists right from the story page is very convenient.
3) I agree that story lengths should be listed as word counts vs. any other solution. It's the only objective way to determine a story's length, and each individual can determine how long time-wise that is based on their own reading speed.

Please not word count

Please! NOT Word count: it's just a meaningless big number and anyone mildly innumerate will just curse you. The time is better. The page count is really a good compromise as it sucks the meaningless big number into a meaningful small number. Maybe compromise into Short (<2 pages), Medium(3-5) pages, Long(6-10) and very long >10. I know you have said that page counts can vary across platforms but when I've had to switch platforms to finish a story the page positioning has been identical. Remember you are dealing with a readership who may have accessibility issues.

I agree, it's just a large meaningless number. How many pages is essential information, and I liked having the time estimate as well.

The number of Comments in the Story Info Box is now clickable and should link you directly to the Comment block on the last page of the story.

We will eventually roll out a dedicated comment page for each story, but that's waiting on our work on comment threading, so we don't have a release date yet.

Manu, do you think we can see a picture preview of the new Story List or Hub?

Or is that still under construction? Merry Christmas!

But still limited to 5 at a click. That is unworkable. I've already abandoned the comment threads on stories because it takes too many clicks to get through them.

We need to be able to get the "all the comments" in one shot.

Comment threading? Does that mean you are working on being able to reply to comments and comment reply notifications? It would be really nice to have a way to be more interactive with our readers.
