New Literotica Story Page Feedback & Comments

The new font and size choices - good one, even if there are only three fonts to choose from. It's a small difference, but a nice addition.

Options

The update made it seem that we could go into our preferences page and select options that would apply to all stories from that point. Too bad that’s not so. For your consideration... Why would I want to change font and spacing for one story only?

Thank you for the feedback. :D

As mentioned in the official announcement, the ability to save preferences in your Lit User Control Panel is not yet available. We are testing the functionality of the font customization feature before we add the ability to save those changes.

While we are at it...

1) Is there any chance you can add the category to a story in the Activity list sometime soon: saves opening stories I will never read?
2) Any chance of filtering out the never ending list of "jo the mo updated their profile" which usually appears repetitively pushing the New Stories down the page
3) and filter out contest winners as they appear as MY Story won a contest and one never reads the small print and assume it is a new story.
4) I went to update my profile this morning and it refused to save my changes because the Title was too long yet the title had been put there by your software and I didn't want to change it. Can we fix that please?
Thanks

Have you tried the "My Authors" tab? It only shows the latest stories that have been published by authors you follow, and it shows a full story card with all details for each story.

The other feeds contain a lot of information intentionally, because different users want to see different things. In the next version of the User Control Panel, we plan to allow members to turn on and off specific notifications, but our resources are mostly focused on getting out the new responsive pages right now since so many Lit visitors are using mobile devices these days.

Thank you for the feedback. :D

That brings up a question that was on one of the author threads. The number of people using phones vs desktops or laptops etc. I use things like italics and other formatting that apparently don't translate through, so if the percentage of mobile users is high enough I might change that. 20% 50% 80% ???

Can that be shared I'm sure not it's something that needs to be secret. ;)

It only doesn't come through in the App. Viewing via a normal mobile browser displays all the formatting Lit allows just fine. So the data you would need is the tiny percentage of visitors using that, rather than just who is using a mobile device.

Thank you RR. I wasn't aware of that.

It's not secret. :D Several years ago, we passed the point where more than 50% of Lit users were reading on a mobile device. We wouldn't be surprised if 75% of Lit readers are on mobile within the next few years.

That's one of the reasons we're so focused on getting the new mobile friendly interface out.

I think the last time I looked at the My author's tab was during the beta when it didn't do owt. Thank you for that answer. I'd be interested to know how many might prefer that tab to be the default.

I read Lit on my iPad using the Safari browser with the Reader app. Once I reach page 2, Reader no longer works - it takes me back to the first page. To finish reading I can’t activate Reader.

Well it looks like this piece has been fixed. Now i read page 1, exit, go to page 2 and reader loads page 2 normally.

the tag icon is a nice touch.
i think the one thing i need for the whole site is dark mode, because it's too bright when you browse in the evening with light turned off.
so...dark mode would be great.

Thank you for the suggestion. :D

We are working on dark mode and several other themes. The idea is to change the entire new interface, not just the story page, so we need a little more time to get it working.

Thought you might be. If you get to profiles sometime soon, can we possibly sort them by reverse date as an option please. Though not such a heavy handed sort as you do for favorites. The waiting to load sequence is a trad irritating but it must be costing you a lot in unnecessary hits too. Maybe a java object sort - though i suppose some devices don't have enough memory?

Return to top is too close to next page, and you can hit the button accidentally. This then means you have to scroll back to the bottom to get to the next page.

Do you mean the "Back To Top" icon that moves down the right side of the screen as you scroll down the page?

You should be able to scroll that to any location on the page you want. If it is getting stuck on the Pagination, please let me know what type of device you are using and what browser and I'll look into it.

Thank you for the feedback! :D

I like the new beta interface for a few reasons: 1) screen scales depending on the platform used (PC, tablet or phone. I have been using the Android version of the app for quite a few years (also quite appreciate that interface) because it is easier to use on a phone; 2) Similar stories is now expandable; 3) direct access to the whole series for serialized stories.
I have not tried the font size tool and will try that shortly.

Having used the Android version of the application, I am wondering how feasible it would be to limit each 'page' to the screen size. On phones and tablets, this would be awesome as then one would only have to swipe to move to the next page rather than lengthy scrolling. On a PC, the scrolling works because of the mouse-centric interface. It is just a thought.

My only other comment would have to do with the line spacing, though this may be one of the new features that I have yet to investigate. It is a bit wide (lots of white space), but that may be from my setup.

Thanks for allowing me to comment.

2) It would also be nice to be able to adjust the width of the story. On my very wide screen I wouldn't mind it being 25-40% wider and thus having to scroll less.

I agree that the ability to control the width would be great, but I want it narrower than the current beta.
I think that the old formatting is great, it is as wide as a book and easier to read than wider texts, such as the ones in the forum.

Read Time has been updated to Word Count in the Story Info Box.

Please let me know if you find any errors in the Word Count.

Any chance of getting to switch between Read Time and Word Count being displayed? Or having both visible? As a reader, word count just doesn’t mean that much to me, but if I have 20 minutes free and see that this is a 200 minute read then I can set my expectations a little better.

That being said I am still loving the update. Only having issues with being able to score, favorite, or follow author when I get to the end of the story. I have to refresh the page and not scroll so I can click correctly. This is happening on Chrome for iOS after I zoom the page to fill the screen with text.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Appearance / Presentation

We really like the look and feel of the new story page. We would like some additional controls for authors and readers.

Readers:
- Paging control from top or bottom of page.
- Bookmarking a page of a story. (shouldn't notify author).

Authors abilities:
- Designated area for authors story notes which can be viewed by reader if they desire.
- Designate blurb/snippet about story that appears if in top lists.
- Designate organization of stories that are related under published stories.
- Indicate stories the author recommends.
- Fix tags assigned to a story without submitting resubmitting story.

Sorry

Read Time has been updated to Word Count in the Story Info Box.

Please let me know if you find any errors in the Word Count.
Word count is as bad as reading time: it's just a meaningless big number. Please be a nice person and put in the page count. If you must put all three but please include the page count.

I don't understand the dislike towards Word Counts. As a long time member, I have long since figured out my reading speed so I know how much time I'm going to invest into a story.

Clever Boy

I don't understand the dislike towards Word Counts. As a long time member, I have long since figured out my reading speed so I know how much time I'm going to invest into a story.

Except I cant be bothered to divide 17869 by 472 to get my reading time, or even run 50 reading tests to find out the adjustment I have to make to the reading time quoted on a story.
Humans in general are uncomfortable with big numbers: we only got ten fingers. We tend to adjust the unit size to make the actual number small: inches, feet, Yards, Chains, miles, light years; centimeters, meters, kilometers; bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, terabytes ans shortly petabytes; minutes, hours, days, months, years, decades, centuries, millennia all so we can deal in SMALL numbers. Some languages only have one, two and many. Even the Italians sighed with relief when the Lira became Euros: if you saw something priced at 6 lira, it actually meant 6,000 Lira. The French went from Franks to New Francs to make the numbers smaller.
So if I am uncomfortable with lots of minutes or lots of words it is because I want a unit that is immediately comprehensible and not one that means I have to fiddle around with a calculator or which makes my brain blue screen.
Manu is conducting a usability test and we are squawking loudly that the assumptions he and his team are making are unusable.
