New Poetry Recommendations

More June 16th Stuff

I find it difficult to imagine Tathagata poleaxed by anything, but I love Nocturnal Immersion, which is written in what I see as his signature style--textured and photographic. I dunno, Tath, I may just have described your writing like a painting on velvet, lol, but I love it. Just don’t write about Elvis. ;)

As always it
finds your face and voice
and stares ,
poleaxed and transfixed,
at the gilded sepulcher
of us.

*********************

4degrees has a spare raw way of writing that really grabs me. This love poem, ne plus ultra, is a tightrope walk, taut and somehow tender.

no guise
my eyes
see past the
irrelevancies
and past
the equivalent
of something more
than skin and teeth

*********************

quiet poet has written in 40 Years Later a piece that has, to my ear, an echo of Yeats in it, which I think is a very good thing.

Weeks pass in a fog of cigarettes and rancid beer,
weak sun barely passes through perpetual clouds,
but somewhere a song is playing, sounds like "Volunteers",
and a glimmer comes to these China blue eyes…

*********************

I never read anything by Eileen82, but I really like On the Mend, which I think may be my favorite of the day. Read this.

then restlessness gives way to dreamless nights
shiny objects that distract and more drink.
eventually summer seeps inside
and still, sweet nights that stretch endlessly on
moments of marvelling the loaded sky
and the discovery of devotion.

It could use some light editing, but what a voice! I felt compelled to read a few of her other submissions. She is very very good. Check out her page.

*********************

And for the spinner selection, I give you:

Laughing Crow
by eagleyez ©

Janus slinks thru
Dooryards and up staircases
Past windowjams and breathing glass
Where doves huddle under
Supplyhouses banked with
Crystalline beauty layered on top of seeds scattered like

Frozen promises of collective repasts-
Those grassdroppings left by spring and eyed by raincoat crows
Black as moonless dawns as if dogpaws leave crumb trails
Showing the easy way to digging, no different really
Than Mina birds half a world away
Praying for husks to drop from
Hibiscus and Birds of paradise.

Janus performs the caesarian-
Early term and lifting the north from
The shivering mother-

Suggestions of survival and arrays
of color begun like the surest bet
on both the yin and the yang.

Janus teases light up from tropical meridians.
Reaching even the north of all norths,
As the doves bristle and shake off nightsnows
Waiting to be robbed by the laughing crow.

No kidding. On the first spin even. It’s karmic, I’m tellink you.

*********************

If there are other poems you like, for god’s sake mention them in this thread. These are just my opinions.

And read and vote and comment…but mostly just write.

Poem of 6/17/05

OK, there are 10 new poems today. Of the 10 there are at least three that I like. My favorite of the day is Judo‘s

If you look at the Story tags and reread the poem, you should understand why. Judo is one of the most accomplished poets of those who post on Literotica.

Witchery

The Witch by Bogus brig 17/06 is definitely a poem for some men maybe a lot of us. BB seems to be experimenting a bit and the result is interesting

Here is one you will either really like or be really repulsed by. Go read it and decide for yourself! I think the effort alone deserves a “5”, but then, I would place it in the nonexistent category of humor/satire.

Cool!

There are no new submissions at noon (EDT) on the second Thursday of June, so I bring you one non-erotic "spinner" from the archives.

Today's Golden Oldie:
This poem I spun-up from June of last year. If you enjoy it, click on the name and go read some more of this Lit. member’s work. She did all of her posting in ’04, and this is one of her 5 poems with an H. - It took me 9 spins to find this poem by postobitum.

Hey, thanks for the re-mention here. I've been off in busy real life land, but it was really nice (and surprising) to get an email saying I was mentioned in the new poems review thread, especially since it has been so long. I am trying to work on that though...

Hello to all, I will see you around - 'postie'

It is a Sunday on Monday review again..........

I got hijacked by guilty yesterday all and had to go do a family thing.. so here we go on Monday let's slide back into Sunday's poems:

The ache has migrated by annaswirls

very visual write. Many nice unique descriptions used here. I never got the sense of unbearable pain rather, a dull ache that courses through ones body like the onslaught of a heartache. But is that not what heartache is after all? A pain that threatens our lives but still we breathe and live........

Black and White by quietpoet

visions of lingering cobwebs entrapping age old questions blowing in the winds of the mind come to me when I read this write... a deep probing incision of lifes questions... nice write and looking forward to more like this..
and finally...
A Scarlett Rose: flirtacious grin by My Erotic Tale

Art never ceases to amaze me with the journey he takes us on when he produces one of his exciting sagas in prose form. A new journey I suggest you start on with this writer.... thank you for the fun and read Art!

Well there we go all thank you for the reads and hope all have a blessed day!

Monday's reviews...

The Modern Mystic
by bogusbrig

Anyone who can begin a poem with 'He cut off his own balls' and not lose his/her reader right off the bat deserves a read and then some.

Great men have bloated into greater fools
As they sought to justify their nonsense
With his tissue of lies

Sprawling, more than a little nutty, and free-wheeling while still managing to seem controlled, I suggest you read this. That is, if you're not having a bad day.

Cocksuckie Virus Strain 0-69
by neonurotic

Continuing with the slightly nutty theme today, from the structure to the wacky alliteration, I liked this.

Sometimes on a clear day,
it rains inside my head
thoughts flood over

Inevitable Migration
by Tathagata

I never understood
The Leaving.
The whoosh of the vacuum
inside my belly, the hole that days shambled through,
the repetition of a name
like a funeral dirge in my head.

We all read and write poetry for different reasons. For me, a perfectly crafted line, phrase, word is lovely, but far less significant if it causes no reaction in its reader.
This one hits home emotionally. Thanks for this, Tath.

Grandfather Satori
by Tathagata

You know it kills me that dippity do is spelled wrong, Tath. Other than that, I really enjoyed the language of this. Especially the mental picture sparked by that angry cowlick.

Perhaps this is all there is,
the ability to provide
the perfect world
for one moment,

And the New Poems list for your reading fun. :)

I must add my “third” to the above mentioned poems. My pick for the day, far and away is:
Grandfather Satori by Tathagata.
I have become the hand
that I see now
only in photos, . . .

. . .

If you live long enough
you get to recreate
the good parts,
instead of just
remembering them.
. . .
Well done, Tath, and I couldn’t spell “Dippity-do” either! :rose:

Sixteen new poems for Tuesday, June 21st. My picks are -

Reflections the first of two submitted by a new poet Miss_Morrigan has earned The Golden “E”. Well done.

berry hungry by My Erotic Tale[/url] is a strange mixture of word play, sadness and humour. I couldn’t quite make out the message but it is a good read. Try it and vote.

Nuit Noir by CharleyH is a beautifully inspired and inspiring poem with some lovely lines.

Belegon’s latest offering Quiet Parting is a sad ode to missed opportunities.

Saldne has three poems today as she refurbishes her poetic cupboard. I liked the emotionally brittle and bitter I Blame You, Daddy best of the three.

As always, read, vote and comment. Support your local poet!

New Poems of Thursday June 23, 2005

There are 29 new submissions on the fourth Thursday of June, and I bring you one non-erotic "spinner" from the archives.

Today's Golden Oldie:
This poem I spun-up from August of last year.

- It took me 17 spins (not like the karma driven “1” spin by Angeline  ) to find this poem by normal jean. She has been a member for over a year in this persona and has many poems worth reading (or rereading) as this example should clearly demonstrate.
it' s not what you know

it's what you can prove
and I can assure you that
insertion of thesaurus
up your ass, or in your ear
will not make you a scholar

words are good things, fine inventions
couriers of emotion, thought and intent

but stop and consider these odd contributions-

blissful, twisting
silly-string cheerleaders,
dancing queens with jiggle-y things,
essentially protruding

sensuality exuding orifices,
holes, if you prefer
emitting profane levels of profundity
honorific horni-tude
for a most delicate female form

pheromones have a life of their own,
silent linguistics,
they beg obscene actions
but lacking adequate words
descriptions are visual at best,
regal above phonetic breasts,
slender ivory, nape of neck beckons-

a description, a sentence,
a vowel avalanche might do you justice
an admiring phrase, at the very least

Language, you are my lover,
your nectar embraces my mind
and tickles my new-found tongue
***

Of today's new poems, here are some of the ones that caught my eye:

Kaishaku, a recent and welcome voice to the Literotica poetry scene, starts today’s list with sedition. I particularly like this phrase:
. . . truth is void,
lost in stasis
and I crave ballet
. . .
***

Here is a short observation that at least the anal compulsive editors among us should appreciate: Jesus in a Bathroom by Tathagata

***

If I understand the idea of “found poetry” (I think we had a thread of it quite some time ago.) it is unintentional poetry found within the everyday/mundane prose of others. Words (not necessarily all consecutive) that when removed from context blossom into different meaning on their own. Kind of like the hidden flower that is only seen when all the weeds are removed. If my grasp of this concept is correct then Bill Dada did not create these words, he merely harvested them from the verbal detritus and saved them for us to see what he saw. Bill has been a Literotica member since the beginning of the year and published a flurry of poems in February. His voice has been mostly silent since then until his three today.
Found Poem #1
Found Poem #2
Rise From Our Words

***

In Reflected Enlightenment, seannelson shows the poet at midnight. – Short and strongly written.

***

bluerains displays her skill with words; setting mood, developing theme, and creating imagery in Carvings.

***

Taste is always an individual thing so there may certainly be other poems out there today that you will thoroughly enjoy. If you find ones you really like on the New Poems page, please come back and tell us about them!

And please remember that our poets need your support, so Read Vote Comment Feedback. It won’t come back around if you don’t send it out! ;)

Sunday Reviews

This beautiful first summer Sunday produced a rash of poems... I have to say I had to finally stop for a while because of all the negative energy held in many of the poems of the day. Very very dark and lost writing that I could not allow into my mind. That said:
here are the suggestions:

Letting Go by Curiouswife

the subtle wording in this short poem is powerful. A strong read in the simplicity of the moment.

Abandon by Rhyme Fairy

Explosive and potent. This is the encore on the fourth of july fireworks. Perfect!

Once Upon A Time In California II by Jasperman

Left me speechless... just go read it. The only dark said poem I felt worthy today of mentioning due to the message it holds....

Sir Knight by bluerains

filled with hot sizzling erotic visions... wow..

have a great day

Monday's reviews...

Starting from the bottom up, just for kicks, and because I haven't had my coffee yet. :p

by the springs
by annaswirls

This made me wish that I lived in a place where there were actual seasons. That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the summer descriptions and the representation of the passage of time. The transition from 'hands' to 'feet' from the first to second section is clever fun, and her word choice throughout is lovely.

The Cellar Door
by Kaishaku

The first of cellar door poems that I've seen posted, and what a--coughs--toasty way to start. This is delicious.

Sociology
by bogusbrig

As always, slightly nutty, intense, complex, and more than worth a read or four.

One can't escape civilisation in England
It follows you like a bad conscience
Its stale breath fills your lungs
Saturates your muscles
And fuses your bones

Nature
by dorksicle

A poet new to posting on the site, I liked the deceptive simplicity of this.

***

And the New Poems list....

Happy reading.

June 28th presents ten works; here are my picks plus a spinner for olde tymes sake.

Lackadaisical by postobitum a painful turn of the poetic muse’s screws has produced this neat gathering of expressive words.

The Mutt’s Al Pacino Breakfast ends with panache – pity about the typo – or was it deliberate?
“Last night’s cheese and sausage
Curling on the cardboard
Grants me absolution frying
In my scambled eggs.”

The Cheerful Skit by dcpoet44 is a battle cry to all artists stung by criticism, oddly titled but well worth a read.

Anyone who knows me knows I enjoy colour analogies so An Artist’s Stroke by a fairly new-to-Lit poetess curiouswife appealed to me, if you enjoy tight expressive poetry it will to you too.

A third spin stirred this little gem to the surface –

Pierrot’s penis

By the recently sighted Judo and is dedicated to OT who is still missing and missed..

A play of light,
A shadow's drape,
A pure delight
Of bended shape.

Featureless head,
Wooden and round,
He'd like to bed
All within sound.

But lost has he --
A divining rod.
Fabled story,
But not too flawed.

His maker made
His penis firm
And while it played
The girlies squirm.

But never were
They close to him.
His valient lure
Made tingly quim.

But then one day
A nice girl friend
Who was so gay
He might offend.

So, off it came
To friendship keep
And who can blame
While he might weep

To keep a friend
He sacrificed
His gender sign
And had it iced.

Perhaps one day
It may come back --
But his heart stays dear
For what he lack.

Go and enjoy all the new poems then vote and comment as you see fit.

One from Sunday

That I just happened across this morning.

Waiting In Line - Willow Rain

A very tender, almost shy poem. about daydreaming in line..the last verse conjures so many images and feelings for me, and seals the poem perfectly.
Give it a read.
It made me smile

New Poems of Thursday June 30, 2005

There are 18 new submissions on the last Thursday of June 2005.
steve porter leads off the day with an “E” for a short July fourth style poem. I am not sure if the poet is being cynical with “freedoom”.
Celebration

Structures in the free world

designed to celebrate

these fleeting triumphs.

Frozen moments earned

in the history of freedoom.

To be a part of it,

to touch the trophy,

to be champions just once.
***

Later on SeattleRain presents an erotic poem that brings a new meaning to ‘sugaring off’. :)
(I would only suggest that the maple trees I have seen do not have spigot style taps.)

Like the Maple

. . .
Your words loosen hemispheres,
and my mind melts
into puddles of poetry.
. . .
***

Beyond that there are poems by neonurotic and annaswirls, as well as submissions by other familiar names like dcpoet44 and Uncle Pervey.

Frankly, I personally found nothing much above average in today’s postings, (but that may be due to a persistent sinus drip and headache). However, just because I am not enthused doesn’t mean that you may not be well entertained. Go read and find out!

***

Here is a “non-erotic spinner” for today from November of 2004:
- It took me 4 spins to find this poem by Liar. Liar has been a member and a regular contributor for a year and a half. I am always amazed when someone writes this well in a non-native language, but some of our best poets do. - The title alone should make you read this one, and the rest doesn’t disappoint.
Raising A Stillborn Child

She set ink to paper,
another blue dot
embedding the same old digits
on the wall calendar.

They grow up so fast,
don't they? Don't they?
Yes, they do.

Traces yet a
chalk outline
of possibilities,
erosion blurred
at the edges.

Then smudges the white
with salt and semantics.

Only blue dots remain.

Thanks for the mention Big Fish :)

You might be right about the wooden spigots...they are probably not used anymore... I had not thought about that-- as the only experience I have with tapping maple trees are from the antiques my mom had lined on the ledge down the basement steps.

Like these:

old spigots

You know I had to go check, curious little kitty that I am :cathappy:

oh damn! or are those for the BUCKET and not the TAP?

oh this life long learning stuff is confusing...
do I really need a vocabulary to write poetry? gosh.

spiggot, spout, tap?
cobbers and spiles?
brace and bit?

I need to go back on line and get m'self an edurcation then rite another pome bout it all
sounds sexy

Hope your headache is getting better! Thanks again for taking on the reviews!

So go read, vote and comment

Sunday Sunday... do do ... reviews

Well as usual there is a pile of poems awaiting reviews.. so off I go to read and see what surprises lie around the bend of literotica poetry selections........

First choice:

100 Works in Mill Aluminum by Steve Porter

Deep!!! First I love the fact that this write made me go to the dictionary! When I first viewed the poem I said oh no! For this style baffles me in its density of stanzas. But... this is a wonder for the style plays well into the realm of the poem. The work itself allows the reader to place their own thoughts and visions into the meaning. Is he talking about spinning metal art, people, stars? Or for me a grander scale... an universal glance ... hence while the poem seems to stop for a brief second, a simplistic moment the density of the rhetorical form tells the reader that there is more here than what appears on the surface. The poet emphasizes this with his last line... a wonderful read thank you for the journey!

Second:

Heddi’s attic by Tristesse

Detailed emotional qualities. There is a sense of removal here, an outsider seeking answers with a wall between the poet and the objects. The details show the wonder and the intrigue of the work. Some minor flaws in the structure but overall an outstanding read.

And it does not stop... third:
Transmitted Kneel Down by dcpoet44

This is a mind blowing write. Bursting through doors of ones conventional thinking and a prompting to dig deeper and find out just what really are the concerns of this world? Mountains and molehills.. reversal of the NORMAL thinking process explored through a powerful write.

A poem that spoke to my weakness... nature and the mysteries:

Michael's Song by Exogenous

A wonderful visual work. Tiny details bring the reader into the moment. Excellent meter in the work and strong connections to emotions and the mysteries..

Since it is Indepence Day..

Battle Cry by Rhyme Fairy

YES!
strong powerful write here... loved the intensity of the work.. and the message freezes within the heart of all who take the time to feel this poem!

Speaking of freedom:

Another by My Erotic Tale

This is a break through write for this poet. So many of us have enjoyed the zen and story poems of Art. I feel for the first time this poet has priviledged us with more than his wonderful mind. He opens his soul in this write and the power is stunning. A brave write.

Small but powerful
A touch by quietpoet

As usual the simplicity is but a veil in your writing! So much depth here if the reader is wise enough to explore.

We keep going with:

Riskby bogusbrig

This is a strong statement in so many ways! Needs to be read many times.. in different ways.. break it down and as a whole. Yes some mistakes but wow what a voice.. one that needs to be shared and heard!

Swimming in the summer moments:

Weatherbug by Tathagata

The seduction of the lazy hot days of summer and our connection to nature speak strongly in this detailed work.

So there we are!!! There are SO MANY wonderful poems on todays NEW POEMS I can not mentioned them all!!!! So please go read let someone know if you enjoyed something about their poem. We are all here to learn and grow .. not just poetry wise but life wise... thank you all and Happy Fourth of July!!!

blessings
