New Poetry Recommendations

Friday Review

23 new poems on this Friday the 13th. (Well, okay, Yesterday. I'm cheating.) This is a feast of liveliness today, with notables being
She said she was not too proud by KOLKORE
Inertia Alternator by MinorMonster
Beachdrift by NeonFlux
Cruciatus by everso bad (a bit talky but interesting images)
and writermike's whimsical Cooking.

Though it makes me wish my knowledge of Spanish were better, I really like lobomao's
the feast of Santa Yuerba Buena. Also, if you can look past the many technical errors, you might find MET's
Gravitational Upgrades to be a fun take on birthdays.

I mentioned only what really stood out to me, but there are several other poems here that might be of interest to others. There is halloween poetry, beach poetry, and rockstar for president poetry as well. Enjoy! :)

Tuesday, Full of Grace

17 on the 17th. This is my karmic payback for last Tuesday's lack. A lot of middle to good work this week, with a couple clunkers. However, only two really grabbed me.

iqespresso gives us Girls That Masturbate. The sexiest thing posted today, and damn fun. An excellent way for a girl in a cold climate to start the day.

Dragonfeather has a piece called Wednesday up for your perusal. Excellent stuff. It's almost a Western Australian Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, except, you know, modern and a little dirty.

Beautiful rain here in Chicago. Best wishes, all.

Wednesday's Review

.

What a week it has been since last Wednesday! Two feet of snow came & melted but it's left behind 3 feet of tree branches covering the yard, waiting to be cut down to firewood size. Oh my back...

Yesterday Specs had 17 pieces; now it's the 18th and I'm facing - you guessed it - 18 pieces to look over. So let's see what is spread before us today:

The always prolific bluerains has gone green today with Muswell Revisited. Just wondering though ~ is it supposed to be Muswell or Muwell. Only blue's alt knows for sure. Hmmm.

oregon_gal has an interesting piece, Sex x 3. Dust bunnies and old sex tools makes for an interesting mix. What else is lurking in this gal's closet?

bigjim_100 has his premiere piece out today, a haiku-like quickie in Frozen Desire.

That's it for me today. But don't let that stop you; read, vote, comment ~ it's the least you can do. Above all, comment ~ a fair exchange for the pleasure of reading free poetry.

There are seven shiny new poems up today, folks. Let's take a quick lookie at 'em.
  • Finally, another new poet, Phenjo, tells us of The Bee's Needs in a manner von Frisch would have appreciated. I normally don't care for centered poems, but I think that alignment works well here.
That's it for today, people. Go welcome the newbies with your RVC and give RF a little smooch as well.

Friday Review

Wow. 33 new poems for Friday (I'm glad I'm just doing Friday and not Thursday, too! Thanks, Tzara).

Though I wish its punctuation were more regularly applied, I was drawn to Vapiredust's absurdist sermon Five ways of looking at a Frog. Follow that up with Ancient117331's Prose... then whip over to Preta's necro erotic Pillow talk and you'll feel like you've just been on a trip through the noir funhouse and landed on a dead redhead. In the best possible way.

I enjoyed the world view of lostandfounder's Paradox of the Ritual and much of the imagery in MET's The Road to Hondo.

My picks of the day are Bill Dada's The Practice of Unsafe Sects, where effortless wordplay announces a jarring, scrapyard collage of a poem, and naxie's bittersweet Moving from Memory.

Finish all this with a refreshing scrub in Tristesse's Christening the Claw-foot Tub. Though this is not as strong as much of this poet's work on the forums in my opinion, it is a relaxing finale to the journey and a great way to start a Saturday.

Enjoy your weekends!

Tuesday, Excellent and Fair

To anyone that was discouraged from writing poetry last week because I mentioned a few clunkers, I sincerely hope you'll reconsider. However, in the pursuit of clarity, hearing there were clunkers always makes me want to write, so perhaps I made an assumption about some of the other authors. In any event:

There were precious few clunkers this week, mostly very nice work, but only one poem kicked my ass and took my name. That would be cunt by sweetjain. Good God Damn, girl can write. Cheers, indeed.

Please run your mouse over today's charming offerings and send feedback. Have a great Wednesday, all.

Wednesday's Review

.

Thank you Specs for your Tuesday work. Tis a lovely Wednesday already, in fact. And there are only 7 pieces posted. Tough to pick and choose when they're all so good. Let's see what we can find...

ZoieDoulos starts the list off watching her lover and Master as he sleeps in I count.

Welcome echoes_s to Lit. Her premiere poem, zephrys scream, is a fitting piece in keeping with next Tuesday's festivities. Not being familiar with every poet here at Lit, it seems I misspoke. echoes_s is an established personage and is just starting over; so let's just welcome her new iteration.

illustr8rrr has an interesting piece in The Merry Band of Misfits which, I swear, sounds like it's inspired by and for the Oakland Raiders.

tungtied2u offers up a chilling piece in Judgement Room. Could even be an interesting metaphor for the doctor as God, delivering the bad news. My favorite piece of the lot.

Scott N. Leavitt has an illustrated piece, Yin & Yang sure to resonate with some of Art's fans.

Finally, MistressJett has a pair out today. You must check out her Heat and This is a love poem. if you're a fan of her poetry.

Okay, I got a bit carried away today and listed 'em all. Go ahead and do the same. It won't take all that long! Enjoy.

Thursday, Far to Go

Y'all, I hate titles. Hate 'em. They're the cherry on top of the cake of writing's inherent difficulty. You go through the process of crafting something lovely in the hopes of making someone's day (or for whatever reason, I don't know why you do things), and then you have to sum up your little entity's theme and purpose in a word or phrase. It drives me insane. It's like when someone asks you to describe your piece in twenty-five words or less. I wrote it because I couldn't just explain myself with a summary, dude, back off. Titles suck, coming up with them sucks, and living with them really, really sucks.

But enough about my issues. The reason I bring this up is because one of the best poems today has a bad title. And the only reason I bring that up is because several people have commented on it under the piece. I want the author to know that I sympathize with the pain in the ass titles can be, and to assure him not to worry too much, because his work rocks certifiably. The writing is elegant, intelligent, and concise to the point of being arousing. The poem's not even erotic and I got a little hot. Anyway, please be so kind as to read bitter sweet sorrow by steve porter. You'll feel good about yourself afterwards, I promise.

There's a deliciously nasty little piece called I Love being the Farmer's Daughter by AnAmericanDarling. The sense of humor is what nails it, pun very much intended.

Have an excellent Friday, all. And don't worry about titles. A good poem with a bad title is without question better than its opposite.

Dunno who does the reviwing today but I'm gonna barge in an point y'all towards Man Ray's illustrated ...first impressions anyway.

I usually shy away from rhyming couplets, but here it's presented in style wthout ever feeling forced or trite. Give it a look-see.

I'm not sure how many poems were posted today in the second go 'round. But I want to make you all aware that at least one <shameless plug>The Lexicon was posted later this morning </shameless plug>. So, remember everyone :p.. sometimes it pays to check the New Poems for the 35plus submissions that the powers that be may be slipping by us ;).

Yes I know The Lexicon is my own poem.
