*Sigh* so now I want another tattoo, know placement but not design, AND a small tiny stud in my nose.
Some might (and have) say I am having a "mid-life" crisis as I approach my 40th birthday. I like to think that I have spent too much time living my life according to what others have expected of me, appearing the way they felt I should. I'm letting go of those expectations, both internally and externally.
Or maybe I am just having a mid-life crisis and in a year from now I'm going to wake up and go, "Crap! I have all these tattoos and piercings and my life is all different!"![]()
I don't think you're having a midlife crisis.
The issue with a midlife crisis is it is a sudden realization that you're aging and you make efforts to try to recapture youth.
What it really sounds to me like is that you're going through something else: A period of identity growth. You are not trying to recapture youth, but more trying to capture who you are as a person as you grow more into your identity and become more aware of who you are. Which is why all of the changes you're making are ones associated with identity.
The fact you mention living too much of your life as others expected is also what makes me think this. This is your identity finally telling them to fuck off and encouraging you to make changes related to who you are and not who others expect you to be.
