A statement from Mamdani demanding that this fascist administration cease and desist from their gestapo tactics, while simultaneously calling for criminal investigations of members of the administration & ICE leadership (and some rogue ICE agents), would have been FAR MORE persuasive, with FAR LESS potential to be weaponized against ACTUAL Democrats.

The best we could hope for is, without literal white supremacists in the White House instilling quotas, the degree of abuse would lessen. But you can't fix hate. Any ICE agent who has a problem with Stephen Miller and his bullshit could have resigned anytime, and likely long since has done so. Those who remain, at best are willing to abuse their fellow human beings for a paycheck; and at worst, they like it. Regardless of what happened under Obama and Biden, Pandora's box is open now.

Between climate refugees, economic refugees, and malign cells of foreign nationals seeking to enter the U.S. illegally, an agency like ICE is currently indispensable; full stop (kinda like the police)..

I explained why I didn’t / don’t believe Mamdani’s statement was helpful (it was in that part of my post you omitted). And just because DonOld & the MAGAt republicans will always attempt to define ACTUAL Democrats does NOT mean Mamdani (NOT an ACTUAL Democrat) didn’t help DonOld & the MAGAt republicans and hurt ACTUAL Democrats with his statement ( it was an extreme statemen, which plays right into DonOld & the MAGAt republicans’ hands as they attempt to define ACTUAL Democrats).

ICE isn’t the only government agency that will require "cleaning" and "inspections" after DonOld & the MAGAt republicans are deposed.

I also wouldn’t just fire every ICE agent hired since January of 2025. I’m sure many of the new ICE agents just took the job because of the hiring bonus. A thorough vetting of those
new hires and a reduction in force to pre-2025 levels would be appropriate, imho (and remember that some older agents have been fired, retired, or quit, so there would need to be some retention to make up for the shortfall - unless you want to fire, hire, and then retrain a whole new batch of recruits).
