i was in a marching band- we had "coed naked marching" t-shirts!

Hmmm. I remember the back of the band bus as a fun place.

Hey... did anyone catch a news item over the weekend that the NJ Supreme Court is poised to issue a ruling on same sex marriage, and the thinking around the courthouse is that they're going to declare that it's unconstitutional in the state of NJ to ban it, thus legalizing it? Apparently they heard oral arguments (no pun intended) several months ago during their last term. The thinking of court watchers is that they're going to hand down a decision shortly. I had no idea this was going on.

Apparently the thinking is that the chief justice retires this Thursday, and then there's election day, so pundits and various journalists theorize that the chief justice will want this done before she retires (or may want to turf it to her successor), and they'll want this done before election day to energize the Democrats (or want to hold it over until after, to avoid energizing the Republicans).

Very interesting. I didn't know we were about to revisit this.

you do raise the most interesting topics...it shall be interesting to watch and see what happens, won't it?

the back of the band bus is the place to be- that's for sure!
and getting to go away for trips...well, we know what happens then. Although, I truthfully didn't get to join in until I was an adult (community band) 'cause my high school didn't have a band. Maybe that's why I'm so clueless!!!

You were (or are) in an adult community band as an adult, and there's nothing going on at the back of the bus? What a shame. Seems like there would be plenty of opportunities to blow a horn, bang a drum, finger a flute, play your instrument, twirl your baton, conduct an ensemble, raise the volume, and of course, march to a different drummer.

Nothing much went on during my own high school band trips, at least not for me, but being teenagers, it was never far from our minds. And I don't know how many people will remember this, but there was a point in time when they started to upgrade the school buses and they went from short bench seats to seats with those really, really high seat backs... that was a total gift! At the back of the bus you couldn't be seen from the front!

Appropos of Shagly's thoughts about coed figure skating, what about a Naked Marching Band?

Wowza. Temperature dropped about 20 degrees between 6 and 10 last night. Yeah, we escaped hurricane season again, so we'll probably get a blizzard this year.

Anyone do anything fun for Halloween weekend? Anyone go to any good costume parties? Alas, I had to work.
 
Shagly- that's a great, funny picture! ha ha

Jersey- I had to work too. Luckily, it was not too bad a night. Although, as we were driving to a job in Upper Greenwood Lake, branches were coming down all around us! Luckily, didn't hit the truck. Hate having to fill out paperwork for an "accident".

I can't believe how hard the wind is blowing! Going to a horse show in a little bit! Happy Sunday, everyone!
 
Lots of raining today and it is still above the freezing point outside, beats driving on ice.
