Thanks Phil, hope you folks are not getting any oil [from the gulf] washing up. :( What a mess.

Not yet, but the experts say we will get some oil on this coast in a few weeks to months. The spill is taking longer than expected to make landfall on the Gulf coast, so it will be delayed on the Atlantic coast as well. (The ocean currents through the Gulf eventually bring everything around the Florida peninsula and then up the eastern seaboard of the US and Canada. This is why the waters of the Atlantic are so much warmer than the Pacific at the same latitudes of this hemisphere.)

I'm hoping it takes a looong time—the weather and water is just getting nice enough here to swim in the ocean and I don't want that to end until winter rolls around again.

It is a narrow view, but from what I can see it is spectacular. I love monochrome. Nicely done.

I agree, it is a very lovely photo. Great setting.

This is a photo of Port Stephens I took a few days ago, looking NE. It's on the mid north coast of NSW, about two and a bit hours north of Sydney.

Thank you :rose:
What a beautiful place!! just breathe taking :)

As always, really nice work Phil. I am particularly attracted to this one...

Beautiful composition, impeccable exposure. ;)

I'm glad you like that one. All of the photos from the same area involved me getting bitten by mosquitoes over and over as I set up the camera and waited for multiple long exposures (I bracket tough exposures ... just in case), all while holding an umbrella to protect the camera lens. What I do for you people! :)

Oh I know. Lots of hours spent out amongst the elements, carrying gear for my girl while she does those same things.

Thanks!

Some offshore powerboat racing today just a few hundred yards from the nude beach:

This boat won its class and this was the only time I saw the hull leave the water. I love the heat bloom behind the exhaust.

Here you can see how close to the shore they were:

As always Phil, some great shots. ;)

Thanks for keepin' the thread alive!

My pleasure!

I should also say that all of the shots above (save for the last two) were taken from in the water. I held my camera over my head and walked out to a shallow spot for a closer vantage point. I had to frequently jerk the lens up and over my shoulder to avoid wave peaks and splashes, but I did get caught off guard one time and the back of the camera got doused pretty good. I think it will be okay, but I cleaned it really well when I got back home. I figure I'll be upgrading to a new camera sometime in the next year, so I might as well get the most of this old workhorse.

I was actually surprised to see how many useable shots I got—the waves would push at my legs as I was trying to squeeze off frames and I thought many would be poorly composed or out of focus. I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought. :)
