There's a plane with two bodies in the canyon. Too narrow for the helo to get down there safely. Hunting season.....

Things you learn when you actually go to Alaska: Your sense of scale and judgement of distance is totally fornicated when you get near a glacier, or where one used to be.

Speaking of where glaciers used to be, Is the Ruth surviving because of it's elevation, or is it in quick defrost mode like the Mendenhall?

Remember that Alaska is a big place. The Ruth is in the Alaska Range far from the ocean at about 63°N latitude and the Mendenhall is on the coast at 58.5°N latitude where it's much warmer. All glaciers are getting smaller, but it's not as evident on the Ruth. A trip to Chamonix to see the Mar de Glace will really show what's happening on the Ruth. It's getting thinner in the lower portions. In France, where the huts were once at ice level, there are now huge climbs off the ice to get up to them.

No nasty muggy heat in summer and no sustained winds in winter.....at Anchorage.
You get a lot of snow, so I’m assuming it’s warmer. Last winter we had a fair amount but usually it gets too cold too fast to snow.

I don’t. I do compare temps though
Anchorage has a pretty temperate climate.

Once, in a bar in Fairbanks, I had to explain to a salesman from Warroad that he was wrong about his town being as cold for as long as FAI in winter.
