Now who do I vote for?

Zergplex Says

Now who do I vote for? Very simply, look to the right at the squidlike monstrosity hidden therin. Vote Cthulhu! Why vote for the lesser of two evils!

If you vote Cthulhu foreign policy will not be a problem as all other nations will be devoured by The Great One, and we will have the honor of being last if we chose to elect him.

To see the rest of his policies please go to his official webstie, http://www.cthulhu.org/ . ^_^ Vote Cthulhu or he'll eat you!

I wish we had clear cut answers to the questions that are asked. If I responded to my customers with answers that go basically no where....i wouldn't have any. I wish the same was true for the candidates.

Marriage is a concept of the Christian church. It has no basis in in American society other than (a) for the various levels of government to collect taxes, and (b) to allow for a sharing of benefits between two people. This defines a civil union. The easiest solution to this issue that I can see is to change the term to civil union for every union of two people, heterosexual or same sex, completely doing away with the term marriage from governmental records.
If your religious beliefs require a statement of vows or whatever the case may be, then it only occurs within those parameters. A couple's civil union would take place before a local magistrate having authority to proclaim such a union.

Kerry and Edwards know they have to say "marriage is between a man and a woman" in order to get elected. But there is a chance that they could come around once they are in office.
There is NO chance that gay marriage will happen under George Bush and the Supreme Court Justices he will appoint. If Bush is elected there will be no gay marriages for the next 30 years at least.
Vote for hope. Vote for the future.

(And vote for my Halloween story. Link below. Just a few days left Thanks)

In my sleepy state of watching the news this morning...did I hear that the terrorists stole 100 tons of EXPLOSIVES?

I know I didn't hear it right....this close to the election, Bush allows this? Is he stupid, crazy, out of touch? YEP!

Why are we not on higher alert? Shouldn't we be at orange, or another color?

Yes, you heard right, although Bush is claiming the explosives could have been moved BEFORE we ever set foot in Iraq. The terror level IS at orange I think, but will that really matter? It's just a stupid multi-million dollar chart to make Americans feel safer, when we are in fact not.

A caller on one of the news shows had a good point...this is scary, but if Bush is letting this get out now, what are they going to let loose AFTER Tuesday?

"so the vice-presidential job seems unimportant anymore. It's the presidents who make the policy, therefore it's the presidents we need to pay attention to and vote for."

Interesting. After watching four years of Bush, and after watching and listening to the debates, I firmly beleive that Cheney is the "brains" behind the Bush administration--as dumb as Bush is, there is no way he has orchestrated anything that his administration has accomplished.

agreed! The way he giggles, stammers, and pauses...its like a bad "B" movie.

I feel a little bad for him...i bet he is living someone elses dream...like my mom always wanted me to be a successful biz woman, so I am...but if I would have had it my way i would have worked with animals and wore jeans everyday.

Didn't read the thread, so I don't know if anyone said this, but.

Bush - Supports constitutional amendment to completely BAN Gay Marriage.

Kerry - Doesn't.

Heh, Angel's been around Lit longer than just about anybody else I know...and I thought I had been here a long time! LOL. Anyway, she's going on 5 years...I'd say her post count is just fine. There are people who have been here for a couple of months and racked up thousands of posts...I just don't get that! Then again, I don't really get the whole quibbling about post counts after you get 1000, anyway. There's no reward beyond that.

I cannot understand why in a million years anybody would vote for these Republicans.

Think about their base of support: christians. I deliberately said that with a little "c" because there is nothing Christ like about them. They are out to impose their brand of christianity standards on everybody else, and its hypocritical.

1) If marriage was so sacred, then why isn't divorce included in this marriage amendment.

2) If sexual morality is so important, why don't they condemn places like Las Vegas, or the bar districts you typicalliy see near our military locations?

2) If abortion should be illegal in all circumstances, why do they turn around and consider an unwed pregnant woman to be a big sinner and/or a welfare mom. Why also do so many of them condemn all forms of birth control?

3) If embryonic stem cell research is so immoral because it means the destruction of an embryo, then why don't they ban fertility clinics from EVER destroying unclaimed eggs. It's not condemed if they destroy them; it's only condemed if they used the ones they have destroyed to do research to help other humans.

The truth is I'm not a radical "liberal". I'm more of an anti-republican.

Last week in church I had to sing in two different masses. Both visiting priests went did everything but say you had to vote Republican. There was no talk about class struggles, struggles with jobs, destruction in Iraq that was just dismissed as "collateral damage".
All that matters is that Bush condems abortion, embrionic stem cell research, cloning, and gay marriage.

I won't say that I think Kerry and Edwards is the ultimate ticket, but Bush and Cheney have had 4 years too many.

As to Cheney so great? I think he must have a really bizzare relation with his daughter. When Alan Keys called their daughter "a selfish hedonist", did anybody hear mommy and daddy condemming him? Oh no, but if Kerry said something which wasn't any thing disrespectful, then Kerry was just so awful. Furthermore, gay marriage shouldn't be up for a vote. It should be allowed. To hear anything else from a supposedly accepting politician with gay parents is betrayal.

We are not a just a democracy as some people think. We are a constitutional, representative democracy. The reason for that our country went that direction is to avoid the pitfalls of pure democracy. Part of a constitutional democracy is to allow majority rule, but to avoid the tyrany of the majority by allowing for protections for the minorities. (Minorities not being limited to the concept of race, gender, religion of course.)

To have a vote on gay marriage to me is like having a vote on weather people who are divorced should be allowed to remarry. With divorce now at such a high rate, I'm sure it would pass. However, what if we were talking about the 1960's or before that? Should ones rights be allowed only when the majority comes around to it?

Oh well, so much for the social comentary. Even if I was as straight as a lazer beam, I still couldn't vote for Bush.

In my profession, IT, many of my co-workers have lost jobs to off-shoring. Though Kerry doesn't go as far as I would like, Edwards goes further. Bush either has either no clue or doesn't give a damn. I got so mad at him during the 3rd debate. He was talking about creating jobs by emphasizing tax breaks and education. for 21st century jobs... Last time I looked, Computer Science IS a 21st century job! After going to college for 7 years, I doubt that a community college is going to offer me as much as I had at the university I attended. So when Bush had that smerky smile about how he was creating jobs (which by the way, I would like to know the salary ranges), I thought of only one bumper sticker for all these republicans who are more concerned about getting votes by appealing to peoples social-issue fears while dismantling our middle class:

Off-Shore Republicans. We'd be better served by more inexpensive ( and probably more intelligent ) Indian politicians.

Let's not bring the flavor of the GB in here ladies! Both of you likely misspoke, so in the spirit of friendliness and cooperation, kiss and make up! :D

I thanked you for your input, and I commented on your number of posts and for that I am called a cunt...wow.

Tough on here...not so tough in real life, I bet.
(now I will pay for that one.)

Instead of E and A asking if I meant anything by the post, which I did not...I am attacked...I have as much right to post here as anyone, and I will not be pushed into submission as so many others have been.

Why do you attend a church that doesn't support you or your life? I am just curious, because I would like to attend, but I have yet to find one that would not put me down. I was raised Catholic, but refuse to go back.

6. Before reacting negatively to a post that seems to target you or makes you feel defensive, ask for clarification. Many times, what we type isn't read by the reader with the same tone. This is a one dimensional means of communication and there are times when asking, "What did you mean?" will save you from undo frustration.

Incase it hasn't been reread for awhile...here is rule #6 in Etoile's rules for posting.

As a Christian with a capital "C," I couldn't agree more. It's terribly unfortunate that those who are attempting to impose their verson of Christianity on all of society are typically mean spirited, self centered people who should, instead, be spending their time and money trying to help the poor, improve the environment, work for peace, and actually carry out the ideals of Christ. The other thing that galls me is that these people actually have the enormous egos required to be absolutely certain that they, and they alone, know exactly what God thinks about everything.

Hmmmm spoke without reading the latest posts

Ladies....

It's only the future of America at stake. Even with that, we will have to live with one another.

I find it very hard to argue when faced with cute AV's! (sexist... I know. No idea why sex would be on my brain here!) Perhaps all national political debates should be carried out in the nude.

Remember there is an actual human being responding. Imagine you are in the same room.

I don't think you were called a cunt, actually...she said you made a cunty assumption.

Wow, my mom would be amazed at what I just said. When I was a kid, if I screwed up, I always said "I'm stupid" and she would tell me "no, you are not stupid, you just did a stupid thing." Thanks, Mom!

Okay, what did you mean? I thought your point was pretty obvious, but I'd love to hear what else you may have meant.

As for being pushed into submission "like so many others" (who?? ), you're getting defensive when there's no need to be. We are ALL a part of this Lit community.

As a young adult, I was always very liberal... I guess most of us are when we're young. Then for whatever reason, I gradually became more and more conservative. Some things bothered me about the Democrats I've seen run (and hold) office, and I just prefer to have a conservative person at the helm.

There are two problems with this belief.

  • 1. I believe the Republicans are getting into social issues where they have no business. Promote family values? Sure. Hooray for the family. Raise your children to be honest, make them smart, surround them with love. But don't legislate to me that my family must have a female wife and a male husband and 2.5 children, or else you'll withold any tax benefits or disallow my loved ones to spend my last moments with me as I die. Yeah, that sucks. And amend the Constitution to ensure it stays that way? I don't effing think so! Until now, I hadn't heard of the Republican party pushing for a Constitution amendment to ban gay marriages. I know that's what the ultra-conservatives would like, but it's not what I think is right. The problem it seems, is changing the laws. How do you change the laws? Pressure from the Fed. Know how they got seat belt and DUI laws standardized throughout the country? They published the Uniform Vehicle Code, which is neither punitive nor directive in nature, but your state will get no Federal highway dollars if you don't follow it to the letter in your state driving laws. And it didn't take altering the Constitution to do it.
  • 2. I can't figure out if President Bush is really an idiot, or if he's just surrounded by idiots who tell him to say idiotic things. Some of the quotes I've seen... good Lord!

Did I say two things? I meant three.

  • 3. For some reason, we seem to do better economically when a Democrat is in office. And in recent history, we've declined while a Repulican is in the driver's seat. But is this fiscal boon a bubble that bursts when the ass in the seat of goverment changes? I get a steady paycheck (from the US Treasury, I must admit) so I don't feel the effects. But I do know my salary doesn't keep up with the inflation rate unless it's a Republican that increases my annual salary.

I am socially liberal. But I am steadfast in my belief that people with a more conservative nature do less to fuck up international policy than others with a more liberal nature. Or at least, they try to deal with it, rather than ignore it and allow problems abroad to fester. I am very closed minded on the issue of war and the Republicans. Sorry. But the history I've lived shows the Democrats inept at dealing with international relations.

I have voted Republican all my life, because I believed in the principles and ethics (yeah, I know... don't beat me up) and values the party stood for. But what will I do on Tuesday? Who will I vote for now? I have absolutely no idea.

Damn... if only Mary Carey had won the California election.

It's a shame there aren't more intelligent people like you who look at the issues instead of just toeing the party line.

I can't say I agree Bush has done well with international issues because I think we had bigger fish to fry than Saddam, and he's definitely a moron (how would just acting like one be beneficial?). However, I do lean conservative on some issues, just not Bush's brand of conservativism. When it came down to it, I had to vote for the team who most closely matched my values on the issues...choice, education, the environment, the economy, healthcare, international relations, civil rights, etc. I guess I feel like we need to focus more on domestic issues (other than banning gay marriage and Canadian drugs), and Kerry has a better plan.

On another note, yesterday I spent four hours calling voters to remind them to send in their ballots and ask if they needed a ride to the polls. I was completely shocked at the range of reactions, from hang-ups and nasty comments to multiple enthusiastic thank-yous for volunteering my time. So if you get a call from a real person (I'm sure you've gotten several already), be nice even if you're irritated!
