President Donald Trump said Monday that he is taking a malaria drug to lessen
symptoms should he get the new coronavirus

May 18, 2020

Trump told reporters he has been taking the drug, hydroxychloroquine, and a zinc
supplement daily “for about a week and a half now.” Trump spent weeks pushing
the drug as a potential cure for COVID-19 against the cautionary advice of many
of his administration's top medical professionals. The drug has the potential to
cause significant side effects in some patients and has not been shown to combat
the new coronavirus.

Hydroxychloroquine

The other study from China was a stricter test: 150 adults hospitalized with mild
or moderate illness were randomly assigned to get hydroxychloroquine or usual
care. The drug made no difference in rates of clearing the virus or time to relief
of symptoms, and they brought more side effects.

He said his warnings about a lack of the drug went unheeded and there was no action
taken to come up with a plan to acquire or produce more doses. He said that in response,
he was cut out of key meetings.

“I was told that my urgings were causing a commotion and I was removed

Trumps' personal physician releases memo regarding president's use of hydroxychloroquine

US President Donald Trump’s personal doctor has released a memorandum stating that:

After numerous discussions [Trump] and I had regarding the evidence for and against
the use of hydroxycholorquine, we concluded the potential benefit from treatment
outweighed the relative risks.”

Here is a memo from the president’s doctor.

Here's the FDA safety warning for the use of hydroxychloroquine outside a hospital

been previously used for malaria, arthritis and lupus.

Trump, who just said that his evidence for the preventative value of hydroxychloroquine

Navy Cdr. Dr. Sean Conley signature on the memo

White House doctor releases bizarre note on Trump and hydroxychloroquine
that leaves out a key detail

But the letter, from Physician to the President Sean P. Conley, does not actually say Trump is taking the drug.

“As has been previously reported, two weeks ago one of the President’s support staff tested positive for COVID-19. The President is in very good health and remains symptom-free. He receives regular COVID-19 testing, all negative to date,” the letter begins.

“After numerous discussions he and I had regarding the evidence for and against the use of hydroxychloroquine, we concluded the benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks.”

“In consultation with our inter-agency partners and subject matter experts around the country, I continue to monitor the myriad studies investigating potential COVID-19 therapies, and I anticipate employing the sam shared medical decision making based on the evidence at hand in the future.”

Nowhere does it actually say President Trump is taking hydroxychloroquine:

Trump went on to falsely claim that evidence suggests hydroxychloroquine

“What has been determined is it doesn’t harm you,” Trump said.

In reality, the Food and Drug Administration has said hydroxychloroquine

There’s zero apparent basis for Trump’s claim that a hydroxychloroquine study

It is disconcerting to see the FDA soften and alter a clear strong warning,
and say that is a free country, and doctors can do what they like, off label use.
It is disturbing to not have the Surgeon General step forward and protect the public.
Then, again, Health and Human Services is headed by a Trump boot-licker.
Did the Center for Disease Control rush to warn the public that hydroxychloroquine
is not a harmless drug like aspirin and vitamin C, after Trump carelessly sold his

Trump threatens to shut down Twitter after the site calls him out on two out of 52,000 lies

May 27, 2020

On Tuesday, Donald Trump did something that Donald Trump does everyday—
lie on Twitter.

But something unusual did happen in response. After 52,000 tweets, Twitter decided
to actually call out one of Trump’s persistent lies.

Specifically, Twitter added “get the facts” tags to a pair of Trump tweets about vote
by mail.

Those facts show that Trump’s claims about vote by mail leading to fraud,
are themselves fraudulent. Clicking the Twitter-added link takes readers to a fact-
checking page detailing ways in which Trump’s statements about voting by mail
are absolutely wrong. False. Lies.

And, as might be imagined, Trump has responded on Wednesday morning with a
sputtering fury in which he’s accused Twitter, and all of social media, with
“silencing conservative voices.” And with “interfering in the 2020 election.”
And with “stiffing free speech” (with quite a few more capital letters involved).
Trump is not only blasting Twitter, all social media, and the fact checkers, he’s
threatening to either regulate Twitter or or to shut them down completely.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...-the-site-calls-him-on-two-out-of-52-000-lies

It's unclear what Trump could do to crack down on social media platforms, but
the power of Silicon Valley tech giants has been the subject of investigations by
federal and state agencies as well as congressional hearings.

https://www.npr.org/2020/05/27/8630...-media-after-twitter-adds-warning-on-his-twee

Trump's chore is to instigate headlines, to fuel Trump's propaganda production-

Trump does not own Twitter, and cannot have it both ways.

June 2019, Twitter created a warning label to flag and suppress political tweets
that break its rules on acceptable speech

Earlier this month, Twitter announced it would label "potentially harmful" tweets
about the coronavirus.

In October, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced that his social media platform
will stop running political ads, citing online ads' "significant risks to politics."

https://www.npr.org/2020/05/27/8630...-media-after-twitter-adds-warning-on-his-twee

“Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!”

- Trump

The President, who has never read the U.S. Constitution and little to no understanding
of it, does not comprehend that he is using a private platform operated by a private
company, and the only “free speech” guarantee is when the government “stifles” it.

Twitter can do what they want. And they have.

https://www.alternet.org/2020/05/tr...ck-but-he-has-no-idea-what-hes-talking-about/

The company confirmed its decision was in keeping with its “civic integrity policy”,
which bars users from “manipulating or interfering in elections or other civic processes”.

Claims that Twitter polices content from the right more aggressively than content from
the left have been the subject of US Senate hearings, but no conclusive data has been
compiled, in part because most of the most blatant violations of the platform’s rules,
racist and hate speech, are categorized as “conservative.”

Trump expected to sign executive order that could threaten punishment
against Facebook, Google and Twitter over allegations of political bias

The president is expected to sign the order on Thursday

Trump’s directive chiefly seeks to embolden federal regulators to rethink a portion
of law known as Section 230, which spares tech companies from being held liable
for the comments, videos and other content posted by their users, according to the
two sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a document that
could still evolve and has not been officially signed by the president.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/05/27/trump-twitter-executive-order/

Trump said he would retaliate against Twitter for fact-checking his tweets

He just made good on that threat

May 28, 2020

Trump's order is designed to impact Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act,
a statute that protects online platforms from being liable for the content posted by their users.
The law does this by mandating that -

"no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher
or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider."

Trump's attempts to retaliate against Twitter is in itself a First Amendment violation.

"Twitter is a private company and it is entitled to include or exclude people as it sees fit-
And if Trump tries to bring [Department of Justice] forces against social media
companies (perhaps raising antitrust concerns) but does so for partisan reasons,
then Trump would be violating the First Amendment."

The Two Things To Understand About Trump's Executive Order On Social Media:
(1) It's A Distraction (2) It's Legally Meaningless

May 28th 2020

— Mike Masnick

To be clear: the executive order is nonsense. You can't overrule the law by executive order,
nor can you ignore the Constitution. This executive order attempts to do both.

"Let's dig into this clusterfuck of nonsense."

- Mike Masnick

The nugget of truth:

content created by a platform has never been covered by Section 230. That means
that the text of the line notifying people that there was more information about
mail-in ballots, was a Twitter creation and of course it's liable for that content alone.

That's always been the case though. This executive order does nothing to change that.

FCC has no authority to issue such regulations.

National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)

The NTIA, which the President can command, is told to petition the FCC
(which the President cannot command). The FCC need not do anything
with that petition. Fluff and nonsense designed to make people think
something was done.

Packingham v. North Carolina, 137 S. Ct. 1730, 1737 (2017)
Cf. PruneYard Shopping Center v. Robins, 447 U.S. 74, 85-89 (1980).

Packingham and Pruneyard are regularly cited by people who don't understand either,
to argue that Twitter is a public forum. Courts have shot this down repeatedly.
As they should, because neither case says what people claim they say.
Packingham was a very important case, in which the Supreme Court
said, quite clearly, that governments cannot pass a law that kicks people
off the internet. That's it. Note that it applies to governments. It does not
apply to private companies.

Perhaps recognizing how silly the FCC part is, the EO also ropes in the FTC.

Kavanaugh's opinion in the MNN case was a robust support for private property rights,
and makes it clear why Trump's executive order is the exact opposite of that:

(...) The Constitution does not disable private property owners and private lessees
from exercising editorial discretion over speech and speakers on their property.

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/2...dia-1-distraction-2-legally-meaningless.shtml

Then, again, fuckery that has been committed by Trump and his minions
are proof, as to how far they are willing to go.

It’s important to stress that the (presiderp) himself and numerous top law enforcement
and national security officials have all made these claims:

* Trump himself has directly linked the claim about antifa to a broader assertion
that we’re under assault from “domestic terror.”

* Attorney General William P. Barr has drawn this link, claiming:
“The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection
with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly.”

* National security adviser Robert O’Brien told CNN that “antifa radical militants”
are “using military tactics to kill and hurt and maim our police officers.”

* Mark Morgan, the acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, has claimed
that these “protests” have “devolved” into “acts of domestic terrorism.” For good measure,
Morgan put sarcastic quotes around “protests.” That’s a top law enforcement official speaking.

What all this really illustrates is how little we know about what the government actually has
determined about what’s driving these protests. That underscores how depraved and
irresponsible it is for the president and top officials to keep making these assertions
without providing any real evidence and insight — say, with a briefing to senior members
of Congress — into what their basis for them is supposed to be.

It is not being treated as a big enough story that Trump and his top officials keep claiming
we’re under assault by “domestic terror” without feeling the slightest need to justify this
in any meaningful way. It’s another sign of the creeping normalization of all these ongoing
degradations.

According to a White House pool media report: “A small group of protesters

A woman walking a small white dog nearby also gave the motorcade a middle finger salute.”

(As he drove his golf cart, away ?)

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday

The order calls on the attorney general to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law
any person or group that destroys or vandalizes a monument, memorial or statue.
Federal law authorizes a penalty of up to 10 years in prison for the "willful injury"
of federal property.

The order also calls for maximum prosecution for anyone who incites violence
and illegal activity, and it threatens state and local law enforcement agencies
that fail to protect monuments with the loss of federal funding.

Earlier in the day, the president used Twitter to call for the arrest of protesters
involved with the attempt to bring down the Jackson statue from Lafayette Park.

"These arsonists, anarchists, looters, and agitators have been largely stopped,"
Trump tweeted. "I am doing what is necessary to keep our communities safe —

U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr Anti- Aniti- Fascist task force

June 27, 2020

William Barr forms an anti-antifa task force- and doesn't that just make it pro-fascist?

The Justice Department has charged more than 120 people with both property crimes
and acts of violence that were associated with ongoing protests over racism following
the police murder of George Floyd. In many cases, these people were involved in
vandalism and destructive activities that took place during chaotic nights following
days of forceful, but nonviolent, protests. In absolutely zero cases did any of those
arrested claim any connection with antifa.

AG Bill Barr's definition of antifa does not exist.

The term, a shortened form of “anti-fascist” is simply a declaration of an attitude,
not an affiliation.

It’s an affirmation that someone stands against the kind of authoritarian distortion
of the rule of law, and the promotion of right-wing racial and cultural injustice,
being propagated by people like Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr.
Antifa the group does not exist. Antifa the attitude is, rightfully, everywhere.
Which is why Barr is forming a special hit team to tackle resistance to fascism,
wherever he finds it.

Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee,
