https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...s-bombshell-these-are-numbers/?outputType=amp

President Trump on Thursday morning appeared before reporters in the White House briefing room to rattle off a bunch of numbers — unemployment numbers, stock-market numbers, consumer-confidence numbers. For much of the presentation, he was reading off of prepared materials. But this is a fellow who can’t resist ad-libbing.
And so at one point, he added, "It’s coming back faster, bigger and better than we ever thought possible,” said Trump of a bounce-back in economic indicators. “These are not numbers made up by me. These are numbers.
Boldface added to highlight a classic case of Trump-style articulation, if you can call it that. The observation that “these are numbers” would appear to be an empty one. Situated alongside the assertion that Trump didn’t make them up, though, it acquires some meaning — as in, these are real numbers. Someone who lies as much as Trump needs a way to signal when he’s not lying

A cowardly Supreme Court punted today on the criminal investigation into
whether Donald Trump, his Trump Organization and others are major league
criminal tax cheats.

The high court held that while Trump cannot shield his tax and business records
from New York State prosecutors, Trump was entitled to pursue procedural challenges.
That could mean months, even years, of delay in the garden variety criminal investigation
by Manhattan prosecutors into whether Trump is a garden variety tax cheat.

The legal effect: All nine justices agreed that the president is not immune from criminal
process and has no rights to assert presidential executive privilege for actions when he
was a private citizen, upholding precedents dating to 1807.

Trump asserted absolute immunity, which all nine justices rejected, as was widely expected.

Should Trump win a second term-
via a combination of the Electoral College, voter suppression and help from Russia
and other foreign governments, the case will then become one can of procedural worms
after another.

It’s clear that Trump wasn’t prepared for this interview. The question that follows is why.
Was it simply that, after months of doing almost no interviews besides overtly friendly
ones on Fox News, he was unprepared to be challenged on basic points? Or, more
alarmingly, was it that he didn’t actually understand the scope of the pandemic
that his team insists is the central focus of his time?

On Tuesday morning, Politico published an article looking closely at how the White House
operates under its new chief of staff, former North Carolina congressman Mark Meadows
One White House staffer who spoke with Politico’s reporters said that Meadows and his
team were protecting Trump from bad political news.

“I don’t know if they’re giving him the whole picture,” the official said, calling the group “Kool-Aid drinkers.”

The Swan interview certainly suggests that someone is keeping Trump from understanding
what’s actually happening with the pandemic. The odds are that the person who is doing so
is Trump.

After all, it is what it is.

"Look at the way I’ve been treated lately, especially by the media,” Donald Trump whined as he was speaking to a graduating class of 2017 of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, “No politician in history, and I say this with surety, has been treated worse, more unfairly.”

I hardly know where to start with this.

Thomas Jefferson was the victim of many unfair accusations. He was accused of everything from being a pawn in the hands of the French, to being an atheist, and his opponents said that if Jefferson were elected president, French troops would be marching down the streets of Washington DC and Bibles would be confiscated all over America.

Bill Clinton was unfairly accused of murdering Vince Foster. Barack Obama was unfairly accused of paling around with terrorists. Hillary Clinton was unfairly accused of running a child-sex ring out of the basement of a pizza place.

When has Donald Trump even been unfairly accused of ANYTHING?

Also, if you look at politicians throughout the course of history, you see that Teddy Roosevelt was shot by John Schrank, Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth and Gabrielle Giffords was shot by Jared Lee Loughner.

When has Donald Trump been shot by ANYBODY?

The American Mainstream Media has actually been very kind to Trump. During the campaign, they knew all about how he scammed thousands of people out of millions of dollars with his fake university. They also knew about the $25,000 bribe he paid to Pam Bondi. And they knew about how he had cheated thousands of contractors out of millions of dollars for contract work they'd done for him.

If Bill Clinton had done anything shady and illegal like scamming people with a fake university, it would have been on the 6:00 news every night for MONTHS! But the American Mainstream Media basically gave Trump and pass on his criminal dealings and barely covered the story at all!

If Bill Clinton (or Hillary Clinton…or pretty much ANY Democrat) had paid a $25,000 bribe to Pam Bondi (or ANY attorney general), it would have been the top story on the 6:00 news night after night for months! They would have milked that story until the election was over! But when Trump was caught paying a bribe to Pam Bondi, the Mainstream American Media engaged in a collective yawn, and largely ignored the story.

If Bill Clinton had cheated thousands of independent contractors out of millions of dollars, there was have been Congressional investigations, a special prosecutor, and wall-to-wall media coverage of the whole thing. But when Trump cheated thousands of independent contractors out of millions of dollars, Congress and the American Mainstream Media acted like it was no big deal.

So, what’s all this about no politician in history has been treated worse of more unfairly than Donald Trump?

I would feel badly for Trump's minions, standing in the hot sun, supporting his pit stop rallies.

Then, again, it is just the paid Trump chorus that stars in these propaganda production sessions.

“All he wants to do is appeal to his base.”
“He has no principles. None. None."
"And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people."
"Not do this.”
“His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God.”
“I’m talking too freely, but you know."
"The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy shit.”
"What they’re doing with kids at the border.”
“...he hasn’t read my immigration opinions.”

“What has he read?” Mary Trump asked her Aunt Maryanne Trump Barry, a federal judge.

“No. He doesn’t read,” Barry responded.

Maryanne Barry said to her niece Mary, “It’s the phoniness of it all."
"It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.”

(Aunt Maryanne Barry studied the law all of her university and adult life, knows legal rights.)

Barry told how she tried to help her brother get into college. “He was a brat,”
Barry said, explaining that “I did his homework for him” and “I drove him around
New York City to try to get him into college.”

Then Maryanne Barry dropped what Mary considered a bombshell:
“He (Donald J, Trump the Presiderp) went to Fordham for one year [actually two years]
and then he got into University of Pennsylvania because he had somebody take the exams.”

The (presiderp) has said he got into what was then called the Wharton School of Finance
at Penn — which he called one of “the hardest schools to get in to” — because he is
a “super genius.” (Trump sleazed on Fred Trump Jr, his studious, honest, older brother.
Used his brother to get into Penn.) Dad's money, his sister's work, cheating, and emotional
blackmail of his brother, not brains, got him into Penn.

Barry revealed how a deep animosity developed between her and her brother, the presiderp.

Mary Trump said she has not talked to her aunt since the book was published.

yesterday, when he said, “I haven’t been dealing with Steve Bannon for a long time.”

Trump scoring political points by making unfounded accusations. Not unusual.
What is ugly, is that Trump setting up a science-based office to take the blame for
failure. Trump pulled oversight, authority, and discretion, out of FDA hands,
and into the hands of Health and Human Services- the same HHS that helped
Trump's schemes to tear families apart at the border. Summer camps for upper-class
children, and daycare cottages for babies were advertised on major network TV, while
traumatised undocumented immigrant children were kept in chain link fence enclosures.
FDA is science based, not politically dependent on Trump. HHS does Trump's bidding.

Trump is taking credit- But he takes no blame. There is likely to be consequences for
Trump's decision to force regulation out of the picture. A continuation of unreliable tests
on the market, and defective treatments that are dangerous for Covid-19 patients.

New federal virus testing advice sparks criticism, confusion

Trump officials pressured CDC to change virus testing guidelines

Changes to COVID-19 testing guidances finalized by the (Trump's) Coronavirus Task Force
(Quite a few dropped out of the team, and dropped the pretence- who remained ?)

Public health experts have questioned the scientific basis for the testing change.

Trump's Coronavirus Task Force ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Protection
to stop promoting coronavirus testing for most people who have been exposed to the virus
but aren't showing symptoms.

(bodysong comment- Local evening news featured segment that pleaded with those
that are asymtomatic, after getting exposed, to refrain from getting tested, because
so much testing is needed, right now. Earlier, there was a short explanation about
the number different tests for coronavirus. Trump is currently boasting about testing,
but in reality, only half the testing that is needed, can be supplied.)

Top Trump administration officials involved with the White House coronavirus
task force ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Protection to stop promoting
coronavirus testing for most people who have been exposed to the virus but aren't
showing symptoms

Federal testing czar Brett Giroir denied those allegations Wednesday

The revised testing guidelines, which CDC released late Monday with no public notice,
say it is up to state and local public health officials and health providers to decide
whether people without symptoms or underlying risk factors need a test after high-risk
situations — such as coming into contact with an infected person for more than 15 minutes.

Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, said the change could
send the wrong message. "I'm worried it will give people the incorrect assumption
that asymptomatic spread is not of great concern," Fauci said in a statement read
by CNN's Sanjay Gupta on-air Wednesday afternoon. "In fact, it is."

Trump's Yuuuge Sunday Headline- Trump's Newest Coronavirus Miracle Cure

In a tweet Saturday night, Kayleigh McEnany told the world that Trump would announce
“a major therapeutic breakthrough” on the novel coronavirus at a Sunday evening news
conference. As the president took the podium, he echoed McEnany, promising a “very
historic breakthrough … that will save countless lives.”

The truth — not surprisingly — was different: Trump did not announce any breakthrough
vaccine or miracle cure, but merely an emergency-use authorization for convalescent
plasma.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/08/23/trump-is-back-his-worst/

But it wasn’t difficult to see how overeager Trump was for another coronavirus quick fix
— a political win, even — by hyping the treatment. What was particularly notable was
the degree to which the health officials next to him, including FDA Commissioner Stephen
Hahn, played along.

It is one thing to approve the authorization of convalescent plasma; it’s another to
oversell its proved efficacy. Trump certainly did that, and even while being more
circumspect, it seemed that Hahn, like many people before him, was straining to
say the kind of things Trump wants to hear.

At the end of Sunday’s event, Trump and Hahn were pressed on the differences
between Trump’s claim that the FDA found the treatment to be “very effective”
and Hahn’s more circumspect comments.

Hahn then reverted to his 35-out-of-100 claim.

“So I would say that a 35 — if you’re one of those 35 out of 100 people who these
data suggest or show survive as a result of it, this is pretty significant for that person
and their family,” Hahn said.

FDA Chief Admits That Presenting Plasma As Trump's Latest Miracle Was A Huge Mistake

Crooks and Liars

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn drew a hailstorm of criticism
from scientists this week for mischaracterizing a study's findings in a way that hyped the
benefits of convalescent plasma. He later apologized, but critics say the damage was done.

At a White House event Sunday with President Trump, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn
used a deeply misleading statistic to claim that a treatment the agency had just authorized
for treating the coronavirus would save 35 lives out of every 100 people who get the
treatment.

It was an amazing thing to say, not just because it was counter to the recommendations
of the experts, but because there seemed to be nothing in the study that actually supported
the numbers that Hahn was claiming. Hahn overruled recommendations and went ahead
with the EUA. (Emergency Use Authorization )

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn did not loudly announce his dishonesty.
He tweeted an apology on Monday evening. Excused himself, with the
"misspoke"dodge. ""What I should have said better is that the data show
a relative riskreduction, not an absolute risk reduction."
