New federal virus testing advice sparks criticism, confusion

August 26, 2020

https://www.startribune.com/officials-change-covid-testing-advice-bewildering-experts/572228682/

Dr. Fauci removed himself from being in a position to confront Trump's White House Coronavirus Task Force

('A polyp," he said, He's elderly, and it's possible.)

Trump officials pressured CDC to change virus testing guidelines

Changes to COVID-19 testing guidances finalized by the (Trump's) Coronavirus Task Force
(Quite a few dropped out of the team, and dropped the pretence- who remained ?)

Public health experts have questioned the scientific basis for the testing change.

Trump's Coronavirus Task Force ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Protection
to stop promoting coronavirus testing for most people who have been exposed to the virus
but aren't showing symptoms.

(bodysong comment- Local evening news featured segment that pleaded with those
that are asymtomatic, after getting exposed, to refrain from getting tested, because
so much testing is needed, right now. Earlier, there was a short explanation about
the number different tests for coronavirus. Trump is currently boasting about testing,
but in reality, only half the testing that is needed, can be supplied.)

Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, said the change could
send the wrong message. "I'm worried it will give people the incorrect assumption
that asymptomatic spread is not of great concern," Fauci said in a statement read
by CNN's Sanjay Gupta on-air Wednesday afternoon. "In fact, it is."

Trump trashed CDC virus guidance, and deliberately hid CDC re-opening guidance for
schools and businesses from the public.

Trump's Yuuuge Sunday Headline- Trump's Newest Coronavirus Miracle Cure

In a tweet Saturday night, Kayleigh McEnany told the world that Trump would announce
“a major therapeutic breakthrough” on the novel coronavirus at a Sunday evening news
conference. As the president took the podium, he echoed McEnany, promising a “very
historic breakthrough … that will save countless lives.”

The truth — not surprisingly — was different: Trump did not announce any breakthrough
vaccine or miracle cure, but merely an emergency-use authorization for convalescent
plasma.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/08/23/trump-is-back-his-worst/

But it wasn’t difficult to see how overeager Trump was for another coronavirus quick fix
— a political win, even — by hyping the treatment. What was particularly notable was
the degree to which the health officials next to him, including FDA Commissioner Stephen
Hahn, played along.

It is one thing to approve the authorization of convalescent plasma; it’s another to
oversell its proved efficacy. Trump certainly did that, and even while being more
circumspect, it seemed that Hahn, like many people before him, was straining to
say the kind of things Trump wants to hear.

At the end of Sunday’s event, Trump and Hahn were pressed on the differences
between Trump’s claim that the FDA found the treatment to be “very effective”
and Hahn’s more circumspect comments.

Hahn then reverted to his 35-out-of-100 claim.

“So I would say that a 35 — if you’re one of those 35 out of 100 people who these
data suggest or show survive as a result of it, this is pretty significant for that person
and their family,” Hahn said.

FDA Chief Admits That Presenting Plasma As Trump's Latest Miracle Was A Huge Mistake

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn drew a hailstorm of criticism
from scientists this week for mischaracterizing a study's findings in a way that hyped the
benefits of convalescent plasma. He later apologized, but critics say the damage was done.

At a White House event Sunday with President Trump, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn
used a deeply misleading statistic to claim that a treatment the agency had just authorized
for treating the coronavirus would save 35 lives out of every 100 people who get the
treatment.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn did not loudly announce his dishonesty.
He tweeted an apology on Monday evening. Excused himself, with the
"misspoke"dodge. ""What I should have said better is that the data show
a relative riskreduction, not an absolute risk reduction."

A long tradition of Trumpies telling lies about the vote- the Republicans had many
investigations, and for a final time- were answered. The only cases of instances
where people voted twice were Republicans, and very few, at that.

The very few cases of "illegal voting, by Democrats, had to do with differing rules
from state to state, concerning citizenship, and release from prison or jail.
Misunderstandings, or just mistakes.

Trump continues the lie that undocumented immigrants vote, illegally, and that Democrats
vote twice, and justifies his dishonest bid that Trumpies should vote twice ", because
Democrats do it."

Trump twice suggested that people should vote by mail and then attempt to also vote
in person. Intentionally voting twice is a felony in North Carolina.

Lies serve Trumpies, in so many ways, as does breaking the law- Now Trump is asking
American citizens to lie and break the law for him.

Pressed late Wednesday to respond to President Donald Trump's remarks encouraging
North Carolina residents to try to cast two ballots in the November election,
Attorney General William Barr—the top law enforcement official in the U.S.—
repeatedly claimed to not know whether it's illegal to vote twice.

"I don't know what the law in the particular state says" --
Wolf Blitzer has to explain to the Attorney General of the United States
that it's actually illegal to vote twice

(pic)

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 2, 2020

AG Bill Barr floated the claim that new expansions of mail-in voting amid the
coronavirus pandemic leave "open the possibility" that either someone in the
United States or a foreign nation could counterfeit ballots. Asked to provide
evidence for that claim, Barr said he is basing it on "logic."

This is farcical stuff from AG Bill Barr. Wolf Blitzer is taken aback
by how weak his arguments are.

Meanwhile, Trump is promoting actions that directly and illegally interfere with the vote,

so many moving parts to this conspiracy fairy tale

Joe Scarborough was talking about Republican disinformation this morning after watching a Wolf Blitzer interview with Bill Barr.

“Well, we have more from the attorney general. Barr was pressed on President Trump’s claim this week that thugs boarded a plane for last month’s Republican convention –”

“Oh, yeah, the ninjas, dressed in all black.”

“He’d know if a plane of thugs commandeered a plane and went to the RNC with teenage mutant ninja turtles to threaten our democracy. Here’s the exchange,” Scarborough said.

BLITZER: The president claimed that he heard about a plane, in his words, loaded with thugs in dark uniforms from a certain city headed to the Republican National Convention here in Washington, in his words, ‘to do big damage.’ He didn’t offer specifics. He later the next day changed the story, the plane wasn’t coming to Washington, it was leaving Washington. Have you asked the FBI to investigate it?

BARR: I don’t have to ask the FBI. We received numerous reports of people coming from Portland, Seattle and other cities for the specific purpose of coming to Washington to cause a riot.

BLITZER: Were they wearing black uniforms and loaded?

BARR: We received many on planes. We received reports on this topic.

BLITZER: Was the president talking about information you provided the president?

BARR: I don’t know what he was referring to.

BLITZER: It was reported on Facebook there was a conspiracy reported weeks ago about this thing –

Interesting statement, found by accident-

Looking back at my five-year-old column, I came across something more resonant now
than it was then. I was arguing that John le Carré had in a sense set the stage for The
Americans (TV series) by cutting the cold war down to size. Instead of the forces of
good and evil/ meeting in an eschatological showdown the whole world dreaded,
the cold war was to le Carré merely "an elaborate and deadly game played by their
cynics and our cynics." I went on, "and because cynics, even if they don't care who
else gets hurt, have no intention of getting hurt themselves, he made the world feel
safer."

I quoted le Carré reflecting on the novel that made him famous:

"The merit of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, then—or its offense, depending
where you stood—was not that it was authentic, but that it was credible." Even if
that novel didn't depict the spy game exactly as it was, it depicted it in a way that
readers readily—perhaps gratefully—accepted. Authenticity is something we leave
to the experts to write essays about; credibility is what our hearts tell us is true.

Merely a point to be made in passing in 2013, it's a much more urgent distinction now.
We have a president who says a lot of things that to his flock feel credible. If credible,
they don't need to be true. Truth is something of a side issue.

Donald Trump lies like a rug. We used to be outraged, but now we just shrug

We weren’t going to normalize this.

Remember that?

Remember the way many of us solemnly vowed we would always maintain the ability
to be outraged, hold on to our capacity for shock?

A normal presidency in normal times would have been indelibly marked by any one
of the thousands of whoppers Trump has excreted. Ask Bill Clinton or Richard Nixon
about that.

But Trump’s mendacities — more numerous and more brazen than those of any president before him — are different.

Forget dominating history, they often fall short of even dominating a news cycle.
Again: There is so much. One’s ability to be indignant — or even to pay attention —
is simply overwhelmed. (...) It becomes a challenge to even keep track. All lies matter,
so no lies matter.

He told Woodward in contemporaneous interviews that the virus was far more deadly
than he was letting on.

“I wanted to always play it down,” he said. “I still like playing it down,
because I don’t want to create a panic.”

One imagines the captain of the Titanic sending worried passengers
back to their cabins. “Just a little bump. Nothing to worry about.”

But one doubts any of us will be surprised, or even truly outraged.

We have lost something — the ability to expect recognizably adult, human behavior
in our leader.

Worse, we’ve also lost what we said we wouldn’t: the ability to feel disappointed
and indignant when it does not come. There is an element of exhaustion here.
Fury feels rote, less a feeling than the memory of one.

Even if Trump is defeated in November, it’s an open question whether we’ll get that ability
back — and what kind of people we will be if we don’t.

After all, Trump’s “strategy” — assuming one wants to dignify it with that word —
has left dead 190,000 Americans, and counting.

He is guilty of lethal incompetence, of failing his sacred obligation to safeguard the country
Yet saying this does not suck all the air out of the room as it should.

We said weren’t going to normalize this.

Turns out we had no say in the matter.

Trump Tweets Out Four-Year-Old Photo To Show How Popular He Is

September 13,2020

We all know that Trump is full of shit, with virtually everything that comes out
of his mouth a lie, a misrepresentation of facts, or a con. So when Alec MacGillis
of ProPublica called him out in real time it wasn’t especially surprising, but it did
elicit a small bit of schadenfreude in this otherwise dreary time.

As he prepared for a campaign rally in Nevada, President Donald Trump tweeted several
photos showing homes and vehicles decorated with his name and logo by his supporters -
one photo was from 2016, and the original photographer quickly called him out for the
apparent deception.

Trump’s tweet Saturday evening showed a home with dozens of Trump yard signs
in rows covering the entire lawn. “WOW — THANK YOU! #MAGA,” tweeted Trump.

ProPublica’s Alec MacGillis tweeted an hour later that the photo was “from four years ago”
— a date he knew because he was the original photographer. “Where’s my credit??”
he tweeted.

Trump is prone to exaggerating his prowess on the links. He claims to be a
2.8 handicap — meaning he averages 2.8 strokes over par per round.
(He could attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open if his handicap were 1.4.)
But veteran sportswriter Rick Reilly, who wrote a book about Trump’s golfing,
doesn’t buy it.

“If Trump is a 2.8, Queen Elizabeth is a pole vaulter,” Reilly wrote.

Reilly, in his book, chronicled numerous incidents of Trump cheating on the links.

“He cheats like a mafia accountant,” Reilly said on CNN. “He cheats crazy.
He cheats whether you’re watching or not. He cheats whether you like it or not.”

All of that to say, Trump’s claims of shooting in the “low 70s” at one of the toughest golf

Trump campaign adviser shut down by MSNBC anchor: ‘Prepare for this interview next time’

October 1, 2020

Steve Cortes, the Trump campaign’s brand new “senior adviser for strategy,” said-

"Look, they agreed to the ear inspection. It's simple, it would have been by third party,
not by us. And then they went back on it. Why? I don't know. I mean, they'll have to
explain that. But look, regardless of the pre-game tactics, I do believe that there's going
to be really a revelation and an unmasking of sorts for the American public of who Joe
Biden really is."

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/10/yo...fter-hes-fact-checked-on-biden-ear-piece-lie/

The Biden campaign has said that isn’t true. So, Mohyeldin asked Cortes who made the
agreement with the Biden team. Cortes fumbled around, saying it was “the campaign,”
but Mohyeldin demanded to know what the name was of the campaign official who made
the agreement. Cortes said there was a “debate negotiating committee” who made all the
demands. He ultimately couldn’t name the name.

When Biden spokesperson, Kate Bedingfield, came on after the interview, she explained that
the reason Cortes couldn’t come up with the name is that it was all a lie and he knew it.

Cortes was faced with screen captures of ads the Trump campaign is running where they
doctored a photo of Biden wearing an Apple headphone in his ear and lying about the
investigation of his ears.

Facebook, Twitter Put Restrictions on New York Post’s Hunter Biden ‘Smoking Gun’ Story

UPDATED:

Facebook and Twitter took action Wednesday to limit distribution of a New York Post story
citing emails purportedly revealing evidence of influence-peddling by Joe Biden’s son Hunter
— a disputed allegation that has never been corroborated.

No verification ?

The emails cited in the Post’s article have not been verified by other news organizations.
Two former Biden advisers told Politico they had never heard of the Burisma exec named
in the New York Post story, and one of them, Michael Carpenter, called the story
“a Russian disinformation operation.”

Twitter disabled the Post’s original tweets linking to two Hunter Biden stories.

In an editorial, the New York Post, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp,
lashed out at Facebook and Twitter’s decisions to curb distribution of the story.

The newspaper (New York Post) said it was unable to confirm the laptop
actually belonged to Hunter Biden.

1. I'm going to go through a few issues with the NY Post article on Biden,
which I won't link to, but you will probably see on Twitter today.
Follow along if interested.

2. First the information comes from a laptop that was allegedly "dropped off
at a repair shop in Biden’s home state of Delaware" and never picked up.
The "shop owner," who is not identified, "couldn’t positively identify the customer
as Hunter Biden"
3. The "shop owner" thinks it was Hunter Biden because of a Beau Biden s
ticker on the laptop.
This makes no sense. You drop off an expensive Mac laptop at a repair shop
and don't leave your name or contact information?
4. But then, after claiming the shop owner couldn't identify the customer,
the piece includes a receipt that was issued to "Hunter Biden" and includes
an email and phone #
So why would the shop owner produce a receipt for Hunter Biden if he didn't know
the ID of the customer?
5. The piece claims the shop owner then alerted the FBI to the existence of the laptop
and it was later subpoenaed by a grand jury.
But the grand jury subpoena shown does not connect the laptop to Hunter Biden.
6. Then things get very weird. The shop owner says, before turning over the computer
to the feds, they made a copy of the contents of the computer and gave them to Rudy
Giuliani's lawyer

Mmmmhmmmm

7. The New York Post allegedly learned about this copy of the laptop through Steven Bannon.
Both Giuliani and Bannon are regular sources of disinformation
8. But this is the important point. Pretending, for a moment, that everything
in the story is true (very doubtful) it is totally inconsequential.
Supposedly one "email" recovered on the laptop "proves" that Hunter
once introduced a Bursima exec to his father.
9. This is a scandal? There is no word on the length of the meeting or what
was discussed.
The New York Post says its significant because Biden then called for the ouster
of the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating Bursima.

FALSE

The prosecutor was not investigating Bursima

10. The prosecutor was corrupt, which is why the entire international community
was calling for his ouster.
Replacing the corrupt prosecutor brought more scrutiny on Bursima, not less

11. Allegedly, the laptop Hunter "forgot" to pick up also contains a 12 minute video
of him smoking crack and having sex with an unidentified woman.
12. Nevertheless, this incredibly sketchy, totally unverified, and ultimately
irrelevant story is being promoted by mainstream journalists who don't work
for the New York Post.

Don't be fooled by that.

13. I should clarify that, assuming the email is legit, it doesn't establish that a meeting
took place. Just that Hunter offered an "opportunity" to meet his father.
14. As of 9:50AM, the New York Post piece has been shared more than 26,000 times
on Facebook
