I edit for typos and content. Sometimes, I've misunderstood a post or I've walked all over a point someone else has already made (it drives me nuts for someone to make the same point that was made three pages ago and act they're offering new information because they haven't read the thread, so I try not to do that to others).

Sometimes I don't realize that something I've said could be misconstrued until after I post it. Why would I leave something inflammatory up when I could edit and clarify my point. If I'm going to piss people off, I would rather do it deliberately.

And what is the value in standing behind words that I know are wrong?

Sorry, but if life had an edit button, I might use that, too.

I don't agree it's cheating to go back and edit a post. In real life there's much more context to what you say so people can tell if you're being serious or not.

When posting it is all too easy for someone to come at a later time and totally misunderstand your words. Of course I am referring to minor mistakes like omitting a "not" or typos... Not talking about saying something mean, then editing and acting all innocent.

Besides typos, the most significant edit I made was to go back and remove a rather explicit cyber sex paragraph I had wrote for a lady and posted publicly.
That was just for decency reasons.

I generally edit for really horrid typos (i make little ones al the time and i'm too lazy to correct'em) but occassionally I'll edit posts out on occassion because i've misunderstood something (usualyin a sleep deprived state) and I then realise after i've posted and go back and get rid of it if i think it's something that make cause upset thati didn't mean to cause or whatever. mostly i'm to lazy to edit *L*

I edit rarely and only to fix typos that make the point of my posts cease to make sense or make a mockery of it or to add a tangental idea later that I couldn't be arsed to include before. The latter case goes after clear EDIT: marks and quickly before any have posted if I can and ditto for the former except even faster with an explanation that that's what I did.

Forums and the internet are easy places to pretend you haven't said anything. I do not approve adding to that population.

That or its to hide the fact that I almost constantly reveal the locations of the secret ruling class of Gay Jews who seek to make us all into French God-hating commie Jew faggot terrorists through subliminal messages in the liberal media. Ah shit, gonna have to edit again.
