Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

Had some revelations, stuff is happening... my theme for the week....

Gary Moore - Moving On

This album was so amazing... always nice to put it on again.

I very recently replaced the factory separate amp in my car, I went with a high quality four channel amp, but not high wattage (I just want it to sound really good)...

Fast forward to today, driving somewhere, in a very good mood and this song comes up.... I crank it up all the way, and it sounds PERFECT!!! I don't think I have ever heard a car stereo literally turned up all the way that wasn't breaking up and sounding awful. It was amazing... and not quite loud enough. It was really loud, but this song... it needs more than loud enough. 🤣

ZZ Top - Tube Snake Boogie

...and one of my personal songs for survival...

The Barbusters (AKA Joan Jett & The Blackhearts) - Light of Day

A great song and a great movie. And also a movie that, to my knowledge, has never had a legitimate DVD or Blu-ray release in North America. I've got an old VHS copy of the movie I bought almost 30 years ago. I ripped it and burned a DVD copy but I'd still love a restored HD release. Maybe someday.

Really?!!! I bought a DVD of it a few months ago, which would not run on my BlueRay… now I know why. Thanks!

Jennifer Warnes - Right Time of the Night

This one just popped in my head for some reason. She had this and a couple big duets in the 80s but you never hear her played anyplace anymore.

And yeah, I have a soft spot for mellow 70s ballads.

OMG! I haven’t heard that in years either! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Chris Rea - Fool If You Think Its Over

A nice, mellow song. I like it. Rea though didn't think much of it from reading an interview with him about the song:

Most aspiring musicians would be turning backflips if their debut single was a transatlantic hit, yet in a hint of ructions to come, Rea despised 1978’s Fool (If You Think It’s Over). “Absolutely. Wrong key. It ended up being this huge California thing. It’s the only track I never played guitar on, which tells you something about the spirit of it. On top of that, it was just a huge hit. So there was nothing I could do. It was like, ‘This is not me!’”

I wonder if he's warmed up to it any since?

George Thorogood & The Destroyers - If You Don't Start Drinking (I'm Gonna Leave)

Got to pick things up a bit this afternoon with some George (not Harrison).

Walking through the grocery store I heard this. I haven't heard it in a couple years, and used to perform it (me on bass usually) at a local bar years ago.

Anyway, I submit Ben Harper...

Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals - Steal My Kisses

Let me add - I absolutely love Ben's bass player. I can't think of his name right now, but OMG - so tasteful!!!

I can't say I'm familiar with this artists but it sounds good. The bass work is pretty decent. I really like the harmony vocals; they're not auto-tuned so they sound very very slightly out of sync but that's good because it's more natural and just sounds better to me.

I went to Ben’s website several years back, and they actually had a place where I was able to download a recording of a recent performance… about 2 hours of live performance. Complete with f-ups, audience talk, waiting for the next song time, etc. it was only there for a week or so apparently. I don’t know if they regularly do that. But I still have that, and listened to it a lot because those guys were so good. I highly highly recommend checking out Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, So cool, and clearly solid professional entertainers.

Crossover thread moment… comedy thread, music thread…

Dave Chappelle from Chapelle show…

I know he wants this shit boycotted … but it is damn funny and I am a rebel!

no no wait… I am Rick James, bitch!

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble - Tightrope

Got to start Friday off right leading into a long weekend and the New Year. Some SRV is a good way to begin.

Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic

I think this was the first Aerosmith album I bought, mainly for Walk This Way, but I soon found the whole album was great.

Rick James - You and I

Rick James did have more hits than just Super Freak, and this was one of them. It even charted higher than Super Freak. It has a Parliment/Funkadelic sound to it, and I'm a big P-Funk fan so this is in my wheelhouse. A great way to kick off a Friday night!

Lightnin' Hopkins - Happy New Year

Since the New Year is almost upon us this seems appropriate. Plus you don't run across too many New Years songs, unlike Christmas songs.

Okay to bump this thread? Well I'm gonna do it anyways 😂

Paul Revere & The Raiders - Kicks

Because today is Paul Revere's (not the midnight rider guy) birthday, born January 7, 1938. Sadly lost him in 2014.

This was a big hit back in 1966, hitting #4 on the Billboard charts, yet I can't remember the last time I heard it on an oldies station. I have a best of CD collection of theirs, time to dig it out and give it a listen.
