That’s an amazing clip. It’s one of those where I look at my drumsticks thinking “maybe”, but they just look back at me and say “nope”.I just posted this in another thread. It is from a Dave Brubeck Quartet album entirely made of songs with strange time signatures called "Time Out." This one is named "Take Five" as it is written in 5/4 (or 2/4+3/4) time, and it is as hard as hell to play.
"Take Five," Dave Brubeck Quartet (live, 1963).
Excellent choice! I don’t track it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that isn’t the most posted song - definitely the most posted Jazz tune. So cool!!!I just posted this in another thread. Don’t worry, you’re good. Go ahead and post what moves you.…. Otherwise, I could easily end up hijacking your thread here.)
How the hell have I never heard of this band?I’ll just use this quote from David Bowie to explain:
“One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. They were one of the finest fucking rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody’s ever mentioned them. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.”
Because, as David Bowie said, they were just buried for some inexplicable reason. They’re the first all-female rock band to release a full studio album on a major label. They had two Top 40 hits. They were featured on the Sonny & Cher Show and played the Tonight Show among other national TV appearances. They were Barbara Streisand’s studio band on her “Stoney End” album. They actually inspired Kim Fowley to go out and back an all-girl band, which became The Runaways. I stumbled onto their records about 15 years ago and had the same reaction you just had.How the hell have I never heard of this band?
I was not familiar with Mr. Vinnegar, but he’s on my radar now. That track is excellent!Leroy Vinnegar was the originator of the "walking bass" in jazz. He was a mainstay in the Portland jazz scene from 1986 until we lost him in 1999. Here is one of my favorite of his songs, "Funny Time."
I love this song! I loved performing this song too.Roadhouse Blues The Doors

That is funny to me, because I met Steve Perry briefly back around ‘80 or ‘81, working their concert when I was in high school and thought Steve was super nice.I do not like Journey. Never have. Nice guys- I worked their concert back in high school and met them all, except for Steve Perry, who stayed in his hotel room alone until it was time to go on. Anyway, I was never a fan.
I do not like Journey. Never have.
And I was never a big Journey fan either.![]()
