Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

I guess it was my generation
Not really… maybe you haven’t heard Greta Van Fleet. These kids totally did the Zep vibe well.

Then they got all snotty because they got tired of being compared to the Mighty Zep. I don't know if any of their most recent stuff is worth a damn (last "new" thing I heard from them was lame), but their early Zep inspired stuff? Oh yeah!

Turn this one up.

That’s totally cool - I am a huge Zep fan. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

I love Skynyrd… but don’t love this song… it’s okay, I guess, but I never understood why people went ape for it. Or the Eagles Hotel California, for that matter. 🤷‍♀️
The Eagles Hotel California is such a long song every Stripper in the world dances to it.

Birthday wishes to Dave Edmunds, born this day, April 15, 1944, 80 years young. Much more successful in his native UK than he ever was here in the states, this is probably his best known song on this side of the pond:

Dave Edmunds - I Hear You Knocking

I caught a clip of this on Twitter/X so I had to check out the full video. I don't think I've ever seen or heard this version of Who Are You; if I did, it was a really long time ago. Purists may not like it as it's not the final version that made it onto the album. I do like seeing all four original band members together, playing and goofing around. And it must be some of the last footage ever filmed of Keith Moon before his passing.

The Who - Who Are You (promo video)

Birthday wishes to the late Gerry Rafferty, born this day, April 16, 1947. He had such a distinct voice, you can almost always recognize it when you hear one of his songs. This is one of my favorites of his songs:

Gerry Rafferty - Get It Right Next Time

Birthday wishes to Jan Hammer, born this day, April 17, 1948. He's put out a lot of music, worked with the likes of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Jeff Beck, but he's probably best known for the theme music to Miami Vice.

Jan Hammer - Miami Vice Theme

Not sure if this is welcome here; if not, apologies to Brenda. Before my time, but my father was a big fan.

It’s fine. Not what the thread started as… but it has evolved into it’s own thing… which I think is cool.

But… for drum battles? These are my two favorite….

Not a dazzling display of musicianship, but really fun. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

I heard of the passing of Dickey Betts earlier today. Another legend has departed us, sad to say. A lot of those great musicians we grew up listening to (us old farts at least) are slowly departing up.

Hard to pick one song of his to represent him, so I just grabbed one at random. Interestingly enough, this one Betts co-wrote with Don Johnson. I wonder how that came about?
