Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

I just saw online that Greg Kihn passed away back on the 13th. Just another reminder of our own mortality as the artists we listened to and enjoyed are slowly taken from us.

He didn't have a lot of hits but what he did give us are more than memorable IMHO

Greg Kihn Band - The Breakup Song

I heard this song earlier when I was grocery shopping; not this version but someone else doing it as a cover. Not as good as the original IMHO

Tommy James & The Shondells - I Think We`re Alone Now

Birthday wishes to Belinda Carlisle, born this day, August 17, 1958, 66 years young. She hasn't had any hits since the 80s and other than a few reunions with the Go-Go's she's been kind of forgotten unless you listen to oldies radio and that's a shame and she has a really good voice that works well for both high-energy pop songs as well as ballads.

I think this is my favorite Go-Go's song, also one of their last big hits.

The Go-Go's - Head Over Heels

Birthday wishes to Ian Gillan, born this day, August 19, 1945, 79 years young. Of course, best known as the lead singer of Deep Purple along with his occasional solo work. While Purple was never a "hits" band, they've had several iconic songs, and yes, more than just Smoke on the Water and Highway Star. But I think this song really shows off his vocals nicely.

Deep Purple - Space Truckin'

I absolutely love "Smoke On the Water" but also think "Lazy" and "Hush" are masterpieces. Soooo cool!!!!

I used to use Lazy as my test song for new car stereo installs. 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰

......****** Truckin...Deep Purple (Live in Japan)....there you go Brenda, in light of your post for Ian, always really enjoyed Child in Time, Strange Kind of Woman and Lazy from this album

Mr. Blue Sky - 1977
Song by Electric Light Orchestra
Okay... this is weird... I woke up with this song going through my head yesterday.

Which is even more strange because I'm very neutral on this song... I don't dislike it, but don't particularly "like" it either. 🤷‍♀️

Birthday wishes to Robert Plant, born this day, August 20, 1948, 76 years young. Of course, we all know him as the lead singer for Led Zepplin as well as a successful solo career. Got a ton of songs to choose from, think I'll go with this one.

Led Zeppelin - Going To California

Birthday wishes to the late Phil Lynott, born this day, August 20, 1949, taken way too young from us. Best known for being the lead singer of Thin Lizzy, never quite as successful here in the states versus the UK. Still, they had a number of songs that were played on FM radio over the years. I was going to go with the obvious choice, The Boys are Back in Town, but when I typed in Thin Lizzy in the Youtube search bar, this was the first song that came up, and it's probably their next best-known song. Plus it's a cool tune!

Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song

I am listening to this on this sunny morning... and it's just... hitting the spot.

Sitting at my desk, getting some killer work done... I've got this cranked up a bit... and yeah... so cool! The right music just gets everything going better. 🥰🥰🥰

Loggins & Messina - Angry Eyes

Birthday wishes to Rick Springfield, born this day, August 23, 1949, 75 years young. Lots of songs to choose from but this is definitely my favorite.

Rick Springfield - Don't Talk To Strangers
