Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

Thanks Brenda, nice save. (y)
When I started this thread... for the first 6 months, every time a jazz cat would find the thread, they'd post that song - what was totally cool. I just thought it was really interesting that was the go to track for the Jazz cats.

I always think it's cool when songs keep coming up, because they are so popular, cool, ground breaking, etc. - that's what this thread is all about. 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰

When you started this thread, you said it wouldn't last more than a few pages. 💜:love:

That’s true…. thanks for all your support, RJ. And thanks for not taking my weird ass responses personal (they were never meant to be - especially not to you, who I adore)… I just tend to say what I think… good, bad, stupid, whatever. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

You have weird responses? I have weird ass responses, but it's not a competition. Some days I'm the king/queen of stupid. And I don't take things personally from you, not really. You saw through my trollish ways when I joined and saw the good in me. Who could be a better friend than that? I'm indebted to you, my love...forever. 💜🫂🫂🫂❤️❤️💜

And now back to our regularly scheduled Rock & Roll songs...

Will You Love Me Tomorrow - 1960
Song by The Shirelles

And she was also a singer, not super successful, but she released a ton of albums throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and this appears to be her biggest hit.

Julie London - Cry Me a River

Birthday wishes to the late, great Buddy Holly, born this day, September 7, 1936. Certainly one of those "what could have been" stories had he lived. One wonders how his music would have evolved over time, especially during the British invasion. We still have the music he created, and this was the very first Buddy Holly song I ever heard on the radio.

Buddy Holly - That’ll Be the Day

Birthday wishes to Chrissie Hynde, born this day, September 7, 1951. Still recording and performing, she released an album with the Pretenders just last year. A lot of good songs to choose from, I like this one as it's upbeat though not terribly heavy so it shows off her vocals more.

Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong

I was beginning to think Bonnie was picking on my Song selections, but she's complimenting me, so I was wrong...
Any song(s) you select except the Beatles. Sorry, to me they.. well, you know what I'm going to say!

Yep, I understand, I don't have that switch in my brain either.

She doesn't have to sing great, not with the way she looks. WA WA WA!! But she was a hard chick and didn't take any crap from anyone. I liked her!!!

Okay… that makes me think of this…. Which is a cool song, and great musicianship. But, not what this thread is about since it was never a big hit that we all know and love.

But…I am going to post it anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Susan Boyd - Gee Baby, Ain’t I Good To You

There are several variations of this song. I was only interested in 1954 songs...

Ain't That A Shame (Original artist re-recording) - 1954
Song by Fats Domino

Sit back. Yeah, grab a beverage. Its cold here today, so I'm having whisky...

This morning my entertainment feed had a story entitled "The top 10 Ringo songs from the Beatles"

Uh, what?

Ringo sang lead on exactly 11 songs. So which one did they leave off the "top 10"?

This one. Matchbox.

I don't know why.

But once again my grandson asked a question. The next song that came up on YouTube was "Roll Over Beethoven"

He asked about the guitar part.

"Oh, that came from Chuck Berry."

"Who's he?"

Friggin' kid. So I explained Chuck's place in Rock and Roll. How almost every hard rock guitarist was influenced by CHuck's hard driving guitar, and has to know at least one Chuck lick. I played this:

..and explained how many times it was covered. I talked about Jhow Jeff Lynn practically owns it.

(At least he put his own creative spin on it...)

And about how the Beach Boys stole it for "Fun, Fun, Fun" (and stole "Sweet Little Sixteen" for "Surfin' USA")

(look them up)
