Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

This is one of those songs that almost haunt me... I kind of identify with the roller girl... even though I can't skate. 🤣

Dire Straits - Skateaway

I really have no idea what these lyrics mean.... I just really love the music and this performance of this song....

Jethro Tull - Cross-Eyed Mary

Might as well throw in a cover of a Dylan tune... I much prefer this version....

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Everything Is Broken

Edit: Actually... this isn't the version I though it was... this was recorded 25 years later apparently.... but I really meant Kenny Wayne Shepherd's cover so I guess I'm still accurate.... yeah... lets go with that. 🤣

This isn't a complicated song, and pretty easy to play... but it is very powerful...

...so turn it up...

4 Non Blondes - What's Up

I stumbled onto this... I haven't heard this song in years, and am amazed at how powerful Helen Reddy was.

I don't know how to love him - Helen Reddy

OMG!!!!! I just stumbled onto a video with footage of Django Reinhardt!!! I didn't know there was any video footage of him. I have him on vinyl, which is really cool... but to see the man play... wow.

Two of his fingers were messed up, I don't remember now why. But you can clearly see in this, he's doing all that with just two fingers on the fret board. And for those non-guitarists out there... he's doing that on an acoustic guitar. It takes a very light touch, and lots of muscle control to get the right sound playing fast on an electric guitar... but to do it on an acoustic, means you have to both pluck, and fret the strings with much more force in order to be able to hear it well.

This guy was a total monster.

Jazz Hot (1938) The Rare Short Film With Jazz Legend Django Reinhardt

I can't believe I'm watching Lawrence Welk for old bands & groups from the past to jog my memory...

Me either. But seeing One Toke Over The Line on Lawrence Welk had to be the absolute funniest thing, ever. 🤣🤣🤣
Was that the episode where it was all counter culture and while cheesy wasn't half bad. Until Lawrence welk comes out begging people not to leave ..that it was all a joke?

I don’t know. I only saw the performance of the song on a youTube somewhere. I remember suffering through that show at my grandmothers as a kid… I couldn’t stand to watch a whole episode now. 🤣🤣

Try to find that one. It's almost awesome...but then you remember oh..it's good night sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you adios au revoir auf wedersein au dieu....

Cosmo's Factory was an absolute piece of brilliance from Creedence Clearwater Revival. It is full of very familiar music. This one is a little less well known, but I am in a Blues mood today. "Before You Accuse Me"

The rest of the album is pure gold. Five singles off the album charted, all top 10. And "I heard it through the Grapevine wasn't released as a single off this album until 1973, three years later (All 11 minutes of it)

And get this, CCR released five albums in one year. FIVE! (July 1968-July 1969)

ETA: This is one case where the CD is better than the vinyl. The 40th anniversary CD has 3 bonus alternate takes: Travelling Band (almost an acoustic take, very tuned down, subdued guitar, mostly vocals and drums and no slightly off key horns), Born on the Bayou with Booker T and the MGs and Up Around the Bend live.

Cosmo's Factory is one of my all time, favorite albums. It is practically the sound of perfection. 🥰 🥰 🥰

Actually, it was two years, dearest. (Cosmo's came out in July of 1970). And they are all, really really good. I had them on vinyl, some also on 8 track, I think I had them all on cassette, and bought them all again on CD.

But their 6th and 7th albums? I'm not really a fan. It's like they burned so brightly that they burned out or something.

Birthday wishes to the late Marc Bolan, born this day, September 30, 1947. Bolan with T. Rex were never big here in the states, with only one hit, which is the only one you would hear anymore if it's played on oldies radio. But they were a huge act in their native England, scoring several number 1 hits. I wonder if it was British invasion fatigue, or perhaps the Brits knew something we didn't.
