OOC: Battletech (MechWarrior), any one interested?

whoa I totally forgot I'm in this thread. I like Solar Winds, kind of, Steel Legions sounds okay, uh can I be third in command? or fourth? I kind of want some freedom as to how I do stuff, but I don't do well without someone to report to either.

you talking to me specifically? I just think it sounds a bit long, steel dragon legion sounds a bit long, like there's no nickname, I guess we could call ourselfs the Steel Dragons if you wanted. I don't mind.

Nah, I'm asking everyone, just for a reason why they rejected it is all.

I wont force anything not everyone wants.

How bout for short we do this;

Example:
Gray Death Legion - GDL
Kell Hound's - KH
NorthWind Highlanders - NWH
Clan Wolf - CF
Clan Widowmaker - CWM
Clan Ghost Bear - CGB
Draconis Combine - DC

So Steel Dragon Legon - SDL
or Steel Legion - SL

Steel Dragon Legion sounds like a bad kung fu movie. Besides, I think House Kurita's troops are already called the Steel Dragons.

So, I prefer Steel Legion.

well guess Steel Dragons doesn't work, unless if Orlanth wants to change the world on us. I don't care, so I'll let you guys pick on what we do. As long as I have some freedom in the chain of command.

If we all want Steel Legion, then it's cool with me.

I think e should get our nit nasme then work on command.

BTW, what rank system will we use?

Hmm..

How about Sergeant, Leftenant and Captain?

I get a feeling most people won't want to play anything much lower than sergeant.

Donsehan I now bestow on you the honorable rank of Cannon Fodder Second Class. You also get this pin for your shirt. It looks like this "*" Do to your new rank you may now use the building shaped like a target. :catroar:

Sorry now as for ranking system, I like the lets keep it simple idea. Captain, Lieutenant, and Sargent work for me.

How about this?

General = 1st in comand
Colonel = 2nd in command

The above have a limit of 1.

Major = 3rd n command

The above rank has a limit of 2.

Captain = rank under Major

The above rank has a limit of 4.

Lieutenant = rank under Captain

The above rank has a limit of 5.

Sargent = rank under Lieutenznt

The above rank has a limit of 7.

Did I place the ranks in the right order?

Sounds good Orlanth, as I said, I'd like some freedom, so Major or cap. will work for me. I think you have the ranks right, Orlanth, but isn't sarge, supposed to be spelled sergeant? or something like that??

General is the leader of the unit.]

Employers don't have arank because they ar not part of the unit.

That should handle any rank questions.

How large will are party be in the end? (Players and npcs needed for infantry, security, repairs, dropship crews......etc.)

What is the final name we have decided on?

Assignment?

I still wouldn't mind a unconvential role.....perhaps diplomat/spy, arms dealer, helicopter/ fighter pilot.

I think the ranks following the 'Army' in that list should be what we use.

I also think our name will be 'Steel Legion'

Steel Legion works for me and yes the Army ranking system fits what we have to do for the best. We are a paramilitary organization after all.

Just an observation, but this is rather large. So I was thinking that we may be a part of a larger unit. General remains on home or in drop ship and possibly cornel too. We have a major which has an equal rank else where in deployment, then we may have to lutenints, and feel down. This way we can use the sucide mission, doing things because of orders, and some other fun cliches as a group, rather then the result of our leader.

In the Battletech books, theleader is a MechWarrir hi/herself and takes part in the battles.

Valid point, on the clan side it's an honor thing.

How ever on the IS side I'm not so sure. Isn't it normally a plot device, the true leader dies, or he goes into a battle and his base and most forces are wiped out, in any case he normally leads about a lance, and has a few allies, right?

I've read about 2 merc units, Snord's Irragulars and the Grey Death Legion had the leaders in the batle, mostly on the front line.

I've also read about two units in House Davion doing it to, Archer' Avangers, and another unit where Prince Victor Davion was in the battle, in a 100 ton Daishi (or Dire Wolf).

Sounds good so far.

For my character, I'll take Sergeant or Leftenant as available.

I don't know why but I enjoy argueing.

Prince Victor Davion is the main character of Mechwarrior4 if I'm not going crazzy or something. He left and fought in the Clan Wars against smoke Jaguar, on his return stiener had killed his father who was the acting power placing him in charge after that he fought in battles but less often after getting the thrown back. Like I said I may be completely wrong here and mixing up two characters.

As for the other units, I know I have no knowledge about them; so let me ask, is the leader a general with 3 or 4 lances under him/her or are they incharge of only one or two lances. A typical lance in four, we have enough officers in the comand structure to fill five lances.

I supose this really is a mute point in any case. I'm fine with either command structure.

In MechWarrior IV, it's Micro$oft and they screwed the story a little. I think your mixxing Prince Victor Davion with Ian Dasari Ian's father was killed by the Lyran Allience when Ian was fighting the Clans. Ian found out what happend and sweared to avenge his father and family; hence the name MechWarrior IV: Vengeance.

You played as Ian in that one. In MechWarrior IV: Mercenries you play as the leader of a merc unit. ourhired by anyone you choose, as it's an open-ended game, set near the the end of the FedCom Civil War.

As for lance I'd say four to a lance.

you you know, just a suggestion, but we could have our ultimate leader, in a very agile mech with two bodyguards, and have our leader actually lead us, in that he/she would direct our movements and basically be like a general of an army. Coordinating troops, and telling us what to do out on the battlefield.
