Hey. Sorry about that. Really glad you all stuck around. I moved again, and I meant to say I'd be out of touch for a few days, but time kind of got away from me there. Anyway, I'm back, and will be giving this thread the kind of obsessive attention you've come to expect of me. Time to catch up . . .
It's great to know I was missed. And I loved your interview with Ravenloft.
I move because I'm restless and unemployed, and living out of a backpack (which makes it easy to just pick up and leave when I get bored with some place). But I think I'm "settling" in Vancouver now.
I was looking through ST's original synopsis the other day and saw "cyborg" and thought...no ones used that yet?
So I've created a situation where Faith will start investigating cybernetics. And I am proposing a PC based on what she could find and a back plot I'd been thinking of for a while....
Zane Rasga
Age: Early 40's
A powerfully built man of just over six foot with the classic Draconian coloring.
Mr. Rasga owns and runs Cyborg; a research and development company focusing on cybernetics and human aided robotics. (Yes, battle suits).
His father, Vin Rasga, was a leading robotics engineer when the Loa discovery took place. With the leaps made using Loa tech Vin and his son Zane turned to robotics. They created their own company and built it up making mostly prosthetics for the handicapped while researching full body interfacing. They had just gone international with Zane in Argo when the Dracon Island incident occurred.
Fortunately for Zane they had recently shifted their corporate structure to a new banking facility and unlike most Draconians Zane did not suffer financially overly much. The loss of research in the Draconian labs however was incalculable.
And Zane never heard from Vin again. But he still feels Vin is alive. Maybe hiding in the labs underground structure.
The event did open new doors for R&D tho, and his company makes quite a bundle on replacing limbs lost to Loa blood taint. He also does pro bono work for the qualified.
However, he keeps what qualifies them to himself. A willingness to work off their debt as part of a special force he is building to go covertly to Dracon Island and plunder it as well as look for his father, mainly.
When he has a task force prepared he will go there.
He can be introduced to the story by Faith going to "interview" him but actually pump him about cybernetics and Hope in particular. If she can convince him to look, yes, they made a pair of hands and forearms for Dr. Honai to replace her hands which had been infected by Loa blood.
No, seriously, I'm excited. I wish Kell could go along, but there's probably no reason why he should. Unless Coda decides they want to run a recovery mission on Dracon Island too, and they find out there are mutual benefits to teaming up... or unless Kell leaves Coda.
But, whatever the case, it's a great idea, at least I think so.
Name and the circumstances sort of remind me of Ziggy from Xenosaga. That guy was awesome. ^_^
(Oh: Kell's 17. So, at least in this world, he'd be old enough for a driver's license. He might even have one, since it's been a year since he was capable of taking the tests.)
Great idea Succubus. So far, the only mention of cybernetics have been in Aralia (the world leaders in high tech). Locrir and Dracon would be just catching up to the Aralian cyberneticians.
Let me say right now that anyone who goes to Dracon Island is likely to come back insane, covered in orange fur and eyeballs, and partially turned into sand. But don't let that stop anyone from going. It's a fun place.
Succubus and Abraxas have both been talking about brining in new characters. Here's a thought. Why not bring in new characters in a different part of the world, like Locrir or Aralia? There's no reason all the action has to take place in Bay City, after all. It would mean the new characters wouldn't really get to interact with the main characters yet, but that's okay.
I like Faith interviewing Zane, though. Don't forget she's got an interview with Kate Becket any time now.
Sooo, I can change it to him being from Aralia, they had already branched out and had sites on Dracon Island and Argo and Locrir, but got basically kicked out of Locrir as a private company but still have dealings with them.
Their lab is lost in Dracon Island, but Zane still wants to get there and retrieve their stuff. Which means a lot of R&D to survive the orange fuzzies. So he does a lot of covert (and prob unethical) experiments on willing Draconian refugees.
Being the boss, he jets around keeping a handle on things. He'd prob have a top secret lab somewhere.
Zane sounds great. Bring him in any time. Experiments on the Draconian refugees is a great (if illegal) idea, but the thing about Loa Blood mutations is that each one is so different from the next. You can make a gadget that protects you against Kell's destruction field, but you'd have no idea if that would protect you against a turn-to-sand ray until you met one.
Amon, still with us? Get Ghost out to that oasis to meet Nikki, please. Both of those characters need reasons to interact with other PCs more often. Although with Zane as an Aralian involved in illegal activities, I can see a Killer Bee connection to Nikki at some point.
