Hey, anyone still around who remembers this thread? I really miss this story. It never took off on Uncertain Skies and there are still a lot of loose ends I'd like to wrap up, ideally with the original writers.
So I want to start Loa Blood back up here. New writers and characters are totally welcome, but I'd really like to get some of the old regulars back if possible.
Well this is a variation on the classic super hero thread.
Swamp tends to GM it, but she is awesome at it so it is quite good.
The basic idea, if I am remembering correctly, is aliens are frozen in the polar icecaps known as Loa have blood that mutate those who are exposed to it. This is often fatal but those who live past that often have extra powers.
For a few examples, my character Nia if I remember right, can heal from nearly anything. Morgoth had the Crusher, once more trusting my memory, who was a giant metal skinned monster that flies with super healing and fire breath, but the down sides are he looks ugly, can't use a normal vehicle, and has three or four personalities. So the two are relatively balanced. Other examples, symphony, could control sound either for weapon use or for beauty, and is pretty much normal.
Another example, is morgoth and I had another set of characters, twins, after Nia was raped by the crusher. The son had super strength and fast healing, and grew real fast, but a mind that was kind of a cross between a 17 and 3 year old. The daughter, had a similar condition, and could use telekinesis and project a teenage image of herself up to a distance, but only after familiarizing herself with the area psychic. (She was powerless if she was moving.) She was an infant phychicly still.
Any how the story is a sort of cyber punk, high tech, world. The world and the inhabitants are made up though. So an oddity is the Japanese race, Val if I remember right, have white skin and purple hair and eyes. Another race was black with gold flakes... I am not trusting my memory here to much, so for further details, I suggest waiting for swamp.
Cool. Hey Cats, hey Morgoth. And hello to you Irish, welcome aboard.
Irish, check out the first post of this OOC. I'll post more up-to-date setting stuff on here soon, but for now, here's the gist of it:
This is a super-hero thread. I'm hoping for original super-heroes only please, no existing comic-book characters. Also, please make characters low-powered street-level crimefighters for now (more Daredevil, less Superman), they will grow in power quickly.
All super-beings got their powers through exposure to the strange substance called Loa Blood (as Cats said). They could have been scientists researching the stuff, truckers, pilots, or smugglers transporting it, military test sujects, junkies, religious fanatics, or regular people who were exposed through an industrial accident.
High-tech heroes, including robots, and non-powered heroes (like Punisher or Batman) are also cool. So are sidekicks, police, reporters, scientists, anyone who might have regular contact with super-heroes.

Since Cats and Morgoth are the only active original writers, I'd like to focus on Leos and Valous to start (and keep the Crusher in the background for now, sorry Morgoth). Last we saw them, Leos had been rescued from the Cold Blood by Symphony and Roza, and Valous had been kidnapped from Loki by a mysterious blobby monster.
So, I figure at least a year has passed, maybe more. Leos and Valous are about 3-5 years old. Leos is being raised by Dr. Dugan at a GAIA base, and might look anywhere from 10-15 years old. Valous is still an infant, and still held captive by anonymous villains (I know where she is), but her astral form finally tracks her brother down, and togther, Leos and Valous go looking for her body. Of course the kids will need help, so that's where the new characters come in. And since we're skipping years ahead, and finally getting out of Argo, it makes sense that most of the other old characters aren't around anymore.
Anyway, that's my pitch, but I'm open to suggestions. And happy to be back.
Irish, and anyone else, start thinking character concepts, and I'll post some more setting info soon.
Ah I was lookig forward to seeing Otto again. I imagine Nia and the crusher will come up when Valous and Leos look for their parents. I am content to wait for that.
I think it was dracon island that blew up, are the super powerd evacuees less of an issue now?
I took a quick look, at uncertin skies link. (I was curious.) So suddenly I am very happy lit will save threads forever, because clearly uncertin skies does not.
I'm going to try and find the bois of Leos and Valous. I'll repost them here so it's easy to ook up.
ST, I have no problems with moving the Crusher to the backburner. Not only is he exhausting to write (damn personalities!), his solutions to problems tend to be a bit... forceful. I honestly enjoy problem-solving, and that's the kind of mentality I hope to bring back to Leos.
Not sure if I ever mentioned this to you, but my inital visualization for the Crusher was death - I planned for a dramatic fight with the full group of characters, followed by a touching epiphany by Dan, and a brutal death.
Nevertheless, I'd still like to have the eventual Leos-Crusher meeting. 'Twould be quite interesting, in my opinion.
Yeah, I seem to recall the same thing, cats. Well... that just means we have to make up bios based on two-year old memories. No big deal.
Oh, and this was/is easily one of my favorite threads ever. I'm on the brink of detonating with excitement and euphoria.
Although, honestly, coming back after all this time... the Crusher's going to be wierd to write for. Really wierd.
So, I went back and read the IC thread. Yes, all of it. All 33 pages. I NEED MORE. Things were really starting to heat up (pun intended?) again, and there were some pretty dramatic events going.
You said that about a year's passed since last we met the characters - what about the Crusher's ambitions to escape Dracon? He'd just sent his little message, in essence shattering the minds of any creatures not strong enough to resist his considerable will. Of course, he was lying through his teeth to both Acid Lad and Moonwalker, and they'll probably realize that pretty soon.
The Crusher's also in considerable pain, having just gulped down entirely too much Loa Blood. However, he's experienced worse. Nevertheless, the Purple Princess probably noticed his efforts, and he's so far only internalized his "disagreement" with her.
What I'm trying to ask is: What happened on Dracon Island over that year?
Alright Cats has mentioned this is started back up and I would love to give another swing at it. However it has been quite some time and I dont' think I remmeber who my character even was lol
Sweet! Welcome back Siren! Nikki Hall, telekinetic Queen Bee, was always one of my favorite characters. And she's the oldest character too, the only one who connects all of the different characters and storylines. I'm not sure how to write her ahead a year or more, but I'll think about it. Off the top of my head, she's probably taken control of even more of the Killer Bee gang, and the Chapel crime cartel.
Cats, posting at work is not currently an issue, although I won't necessarily be able to respond to posts as quickly as I used to. I also expect to slow down a bit over Christmas, and be on more regularly starting in January.
Morgoth, I really like the ending you have in mind for the Crusher, but I would sure like him to meet his kids first, maybe a "family reunion" with Nia ... we'll see. I've been thinking about the last events on Dracon Island. I guess there's two options:
a) The Crusher has already escaped from Dracon, he's out free in the world, but drained and laying low. Most of the Dracon monsters now swear loyalty to the Crusher (king of monsters!), but since they are all still trapped in the force field, we don't know what's been going on on the island. Acid Lad's plan was long-term anyway, and his huge white grub is still feeding and being prepared.
b) The Crusher is still on Dracon, trapped by the force-field. We never found out exactly how long he spent Elsewhere with the Drowned Woman, or traveling across the island. So he could have been in there for years. Whenever we're ready for him, that's when he makes the deal with Acid Lad and escapes from the force field. Which means the last few Crusher scenes haven't happened yet (I blame the Drowned Woman and all her messing around with time).
I like option b, because it keeps Crusher out of the way for now (and he did tend to dominate the thread) while explaining why he isn't out rampaging as usual. But if you still want to write him some, we can go with a. The Crusher can always be busy destroying one continent, while the kids are off exploring another. It's a big world, and I'm looking forward to getting out of Argo.
Really glad you're all excited, so am I. More soon.
I honestly prefer option A, just because the whole time-stream thing... ughh.
He could either be laying low, although that'd be a bit out of character for him, or tearing asunder some other nation. Phyrgia has been relatively unscathed, after all...
In any case, I wouldn't actually write Crusher posts until it was his "time." You could just present his acts in newspaper or TV form when, and if, applicable.
I think this adds a dynamic feel to everything, as well as this impending sense of... doom. Knowing that the Crusher is still out there, rampaging, but out of jurisdiction or reach would be pretty frustrating for everyone, but Monolith and Nia especially.
P.S. Good to see you, Siren! It's been a long time!
