OOuuuchhh!!!

No horror stories, I'm afraid. My brother, myself and my younger sister were all in the 7 pound range. Even in the military hospital our mom had no difficulties and gave birth without meds or C-section.

Both deliveries of my children were just six hours, start to finish - seems so easy now, even though there's always about an hour of intense contraction pain that you just don't want to have to go through!

Daughter's birth was fine, 8 lb. 3 oz., 21 inches long. No difficulties. Son's birth, 8 lb. 15 oz., 22 inches long - yeah, and he's got broad shoulders like his daddy. Despite everyone's best efforts I needed a bit of stitching after him.

Didn't notice it at the time, of course!

Birth Center, midwives, truly the best way to go!

:)

I was 6 lbs. 12 ounces and was an emergency forceps delivery after 46 hours of labor and finally anesthesia, so says my mom.

My own kids were delivered via c-section, first was two weeks late at 8 lbs. 13 oz. in another emergency situation after a long night in labor and being induced not once but twice, two different methods. The youngest, 5 days early, at 8 lbs. 2 oz, in circumstances that required a hysterectomy. Needless to say, I haven't been lucky in the birthing dept, but have more than made up for it with the best kids.

apparently I tried to kill my mother by lying on the main artery coming under the uterus. And myself too=== 2 months premie- blue almost black - according to mom they had put me aside as dead and were working to save her when I suddenly = scaring the shit out of everyone = starting screaming - and didnt stop screaming until I was nearly 2 years old. I think she said I was 5 lbs - egad if I had gone to term !!!

my kids were 9 .15 and 23 and 9.8 and 22 both via csection - 2 weeks late and early respectively.

I was in labor for 36 some hours (3 minutes) and never dialated or effaced. Every time her head would try to engage I would have a contraction and she would pop back out again. Turns out if I had succeeding in vaginal birth things would have been really bad as my pelvis is asymetrical and fused. Hence the csection with my boy -

Alls well...

I am loving this thread

My mother says that both her births were pretty simple and under four hours.

But she had decided that she would breastfeed, and in the fifties the doctors were encouraging women to bottle feed. She insisted, and they went looking for a nurse to help her learn how to breastfeed me. The only women, by that time, who were breastfeeding were black-- and my mom became the pet of the nurses in the black ward, who stopped by her bed all the time.

My own two were really fast-- My daughter came exactly on her due date, and after my first full contraction, the nurse said; "Rest, this could take all night." I looked at the clock which was at about 6:00 and thought; "No way am I going to do this for 8 hours!! So my second contraction hit, and I didn't let up-- kept her pushed down, and she was out in an hour.

The second was a week overdue, and I just went into full labor, with almost no beginnings. He nearly came in the car, on our way to the birthing center-- I had to blow through contractions while we waited for the midwife to arrive and open the place up!

My mother was in labor with me for just over 3 days.

As I have been told, even when the time came I was being stubborn...(imagine that:rolleyes:) and the nurse had to straddle my mom in a psuedo 69 position and help push me out.

I weighed 9 lbs 4.75 oz.

After I was cleaned up and my mom got to hold me and such, the nurse asked the doctor if it was ok to carry me to the nusrey....his reply....

"Carry her? Hell, just put some sneakers on her and let her walk!"

I was the biggest newborn my mother had. But the funny thing is...I am the smallest in my family. By younger brother was the smallest newborn...and he is 6'6"....the largest in the family.

I always thought that was kinda funny especially since he was such a runt until he was about 15....and then he began his growth spurt.:D

I was the third of four kids. Mom started with a 7lb ?oz, 2nd one was 8lbs. 8oz, I was 10 lbs, the youngest was 8lb. 13 oz.

Mom said that she was done with me in time for cornflakes. :D

My kids were both almost 10 lbs each. Things went fine with the oldest except that her head was so big (14.75 inches around) that she hit my cervix and stopped. We pushed for 4.5 hours. We ended up with a c-sect. after 24 hours total for labor.

The youngest was a planned c. Which was good, she was 2 oz lighter than her sister with the same head size. Would you believe that I only gained 15 lbs with her!
