[OVER 18's ONLY] Do you remember your first vinyl?

...Now, surprisingly, I'm into shellac, and very early vinyl, with a special interest in Benny Goodman recordings (I have over 220 of them, all in very good condition.)

Oggbashan, we'll have to talk later. You seem to have the knowledge that comes from being there (just how old ARE you, anyway?) <LOL> :D

As King of Bashan I was killed about 3000BC. I had survived The Flood by hitching a lift on the roof of Noah's Ark.

In my present incarnation I am not quite the oldest member of the AH but I remember my previous incarnations quite well therefore I feel able to comment on Latin, Greek and Anglo-Saxon Literature - you know, the moderns. I used to be attracted to Helen of Troy but not Cleopatra. Cleopatra was thousands of years too young.

Og

PS. Today I was advising a local museum about how to play their cylinder records.

What the hell, I won't lie about any of it. I'll be 39 at the end of this month, and I'm 6'0. I feel better already.

Well, old enough to know about 'real' records, eh? You make me feel like a kid, Og, and at 55 that's saying something. After all:

"It ain't the age, it's the mileage"

Rest assured, old warrior, there're things that you & I know that would make some of these 'kids' look at us with new eyes...or, relating to music, with new ears!

I'll contact you, to discuss recordings, one of these days...Woody

Oh gawd.....

I can't even remember.
:nana:

Oh gawd...I love it, Bel! And you're only 40!!! :D

I can remember the names of most of the people in most of the '60's 'English music invasion' bands...tho I sometimes can't remember my own social security number...too many sodas in aluminum cans? <LOL>

Woody

My first vinyl was Stormy Weather by Lena Horne, I think she was in her early twenties at the time.

The first recording I purchased was on shellac, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake by the New York Symphony. It is on two double sided 12 inch disks.

I am a bit older than oggbashan, 77.

ahh, but you don't realize how much damn money I spent on music when I was younger...I could give a list of records I bought in the seventies and have it be somewhat accurate. But which one first? Hmmm. Not which came out first, but which did I buy first...

example: I know for a fact that I bought Led Zepplin 1, 2 & 3 after I bought 4....

*hangs head* I can't believe I am going to admit this.

My first vinyl (33 speed) was Michael Jackson's "Thriller". If my mother was still alive I'd probably still have it now! :nana:

... Back then, I'd have sworn on a stack of bibles that life could offer nothing more perfect than getting stoned on the screened porch of a rented beach shack with my roommates while listening to Marvin singing, "Mercy, mercy me...Things ain't what they used to be.."

Actually, that sounds pretty damned good! Depends on the roommates, though.

These are what I bought myself:
First single - Venus, by Shocking Blue
First album - Sounds of Silence, by Simon & Garfunkel

I had 3 older sisters, though, so there was a lot of Beatles and Monkees in the house.

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils - The Ozark Mountain Daredevils

KC & the Sunshine Band - KC & the Sunshine Band

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - The Roaring Silence

Looking at them now, I can't imagine what these three had in common that made me plunk down that allowance money.

The first record I ever bought was Amy Grant's "Father's Eyes." I was a freshman in high school.
