Pathfinder: OOC

This is a work in progress.

Name: Kenrick Blightstar
Player Name: Jack80
Physical Description: Brown hair, grey eyes, 6'5", medium build (lean, but not overly muscular), 30 years of age.
Race: Human
Class: Paladin
Items you might want: Warhammer and shield, holy symbol of chosen god, chainmail (I'll be checking worth and equipment cost soon I promise)
History: I am not familiar with Golarion, but I would say I was raised by the church of Iomedae (or Abadar, whichever actually works better for you), as an orphan. Somewhat of a stick-in-the-mud, but has a good heart, but he follows his code of conduct to the best of his abilities.

More to come, as I read up on the history of Golarion and such.

Dwarven Ranger

Can I possibly enter the campaign as a dwarven ranger - just like the one in the Core Rule Book - if so I shall reply with a generated character and background.....

Jack, have you got good internet link on that history, or are you reading it on paper?

I like it Jack. And I think Iomedae would be best since the other guy is dead. :)

What are you playing with?

Ok, I would like everyone who is following this thread to do me a favor and do a very short mockup of what Jack has done. Post your characters in the same format so I know what everyone is playing. I am going to limit this party to 6 to start, and then swap in and out as people come and go if I need to. I will do a first come first serve as posted on the board. So hurry and post your mock ups.

Character

Name: Fulguran "Storm" Gigast
Player Name: Dramatic Flare
Physical Description: Standing in at just a hair under six feet tall, and weighing a slightly pudgy 190 pounds, Fulguran is not the typical wiry half-elf. He's stocky in the limbs and took in more of his human father's face. He has a hard brow and wavy black hair which often hangs down to just over his blue eyes. His lips are thin, somewhat angry looking and his cheekbones are a set bit wide.
He's still kinda cute though.
His skin is moderately tanned from being out of doors most of the time, and he prefers warmer weather and looser clothing. His hair stands on end when he casts magic, and sometimes little blue bolts of electricity bounce from strand to strand too.
Race: Half elf
Class: Sorcerer (2nd favored: Fighter)
Items you might want:
breezy robe and sandals (garment), heavy mace (12gp), longspear (5gp), backpack (2gp), bedroll (1sp), Blanket (winter) (5sp), chalk (10) (1sp), Flint and Steel (1gp), ten days trail rations (5 gp), mirror, small steel (10gp), belt pouches (3) (3gp), 50ft. rope (5gp), sunrod (3) (6gp), potion Cure Light Wounds (50gp), leftover gold (~20)
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Languages: Common, Elven, Draconic, Aquan
level 0: Jolt, Detect Magic, Daze, Light
level 1: Shocking Grasp, Cause Fear

History: Fulguran was raised by his father, his elfish mother having left after birth for her homelands. His father was a ship's captain for one of the Rahadoum merchant fleets, and Fulguran hated it. He hated many things, and developed a bit of a temper in his youth. His father's sailors nicknamed him Storm, as in, "Looks like a Storm's a brewin'," whenever Fulguran stalked by.
He at first acted like he hated the name whenever the crew would rib him, but found the name appealing secretly. He began to spike his hair with sea water and ride in the mast when storms came. He didn't understand why seeing the lightning pleased him until years later when he learned he could shoot it.
Although he was often called upon to act as a cabinboy and work with the ship, he always shirked his work and would leave at the earliest nonopportunity. The quartermaster always tried to make the boy work but was never as harsh about it as the other sailors or his father, so Fulguran developed a bit of an attachment to the man. The quartermaster also acted as the ship's chief barterer when it came to supplies, so Fulguran learned the values and prices of many goods. When an unfortunate accident took the life of the quartermaster, Fulguran surprised his father by stepping into the bartering role with as much and if not more skill than the old quartermaster. Fulguran was not asked to help the real sailors again.
Fulguran's blood was filled with magical power which his father told him must come from his Elvish mother. It started to manifest itself as Fulguran went into puberty but it took years of expirimentation to control it. In particular, Fulguran had an affinity for lightning the sailors started reporting that he was being struck by the lightning during the larger storms. His father did nothing about it.
When Fulguran started asking about his mother, his father stated simply that she had left for beyond the River Kingdoms.
Shortly after Fulguran reached his twentieth birthday, his father was promoted to a minor admiral of one of the smaller merchant fleets. Fulguran was offered command of his father's old ship, with a new crew. Fulguran refused, and then jumped ship at the next port. Now he roams the roads seeking his fortune and the occassional storm. In the back of his mind, he considers tracking down his mother, but wouldn't know where to start having no memory of her face, and she probably has no memory of his.

Personality quirks:
- Leaps before he looks, though he often knows better. He does however follow a simple survival of the fittest rule: bigger things hurt more.
- He becomes almost trancelike peaceful in thunderstorms.
- Cries only when he thinks others aren't looking.
- Hates being told he is squandering his talents, or to work.

How's that look Rysil? Anything out of order?
It was damn hard to pick a feat considering the lack of true math in the game. Even dodge just increases AC.

I apologize, Dramaticflare. That was poor form. I had opened a window to reply to you the other day and then got sidetracked and closed it out. That is my error and I apologize.

It looks incredible. You did a great job. I also think I may give this another week before I just run with you and Jack. Because if need be I can run the other two NEEDED party members as NPCs.

I'm in for the rogue, I'm just having trouble getting the rules down. I'm really new at this, guys. At this rate I won't be done till Friday or so, considering my work and school load, so please be patient with me.
If the other girl wants to play a rogue, maybe we could work it out that our characters know each other, like a pair of cat burglers. Or, we can be the paladin's reluctant prisoners!

The Paladin's reluctant Prisoners......oh the possibilities *slaps his face*

Sorry I had a moment there.

All I need is for you to just fill out the form above. You don't have to be as detailed as Dramaticflare. More like Jack :)

What I am shooting for is a mesh that suits rules knowledgeable folks like me, with newer inexperienced people. But if you need more time please feel free. I would only move forward after I have gone a week without a reply here, or we all agree to move forward. Which ever comes first. Until then don't stress to much and have fun :)

One last point of note. If you plan on playing please give me feedback on my suggestions earlier for how game mechanics are tentatively going to work.

Reluctant prisoners... yes... I agree. This idea has merit ;p

Items you might want: Warhammer and shield, holy symbol of chosen god, chainmail (I'll be checking worth and equipment cost soon I promise)

I was able to fit in all of what you wanted except the chainmail. It puts you at a medium load. So I went with a breastplate. This leaves you with 43 gold

Your skills are Diplomacy, Knowledge:Religion, Ride, & Sense Motive.

Feats: Power attack & cleave.

So... crap. Languages. I get Elven and Common and two bonus languages. I'm thinking Draconic and maybe one regional language. At least I think there are regional languages, the SRD makes it seem like it.
Any suggestions Rysil?

Draconic is perfectly fine. He is smart enough and enough of a free spirit to have learned his blood language. As for the other it's kinda a no brainer....elven.

I also need an alignment from you

Also I changed acid orb to Jolt. Same spell only Electricity damage. as for how it looks I leave that to you.

The only reason I didn't take Jolt off the bat was becausee it didn't appear to be from the core rulebook. So.... awesome.

Chaotic Neutral. He doesn't make sense as anything else, really.

Actually, half elves get elven and common to start. So I'm down a language still, technically. I'm not that worried about it but I get one more to start and he did sail to all sorts of places so I figured it makes sense for him know more, rather than less. But if you feel like it's too much, I won't press it.

You're right. I'm wrong. Sorry bout that. I forget how much Pathfinder gives Half-elves now.

Then I suggest either goblin(not sure on reason), Orc(Lots of half-orc seamen), Aquan(Possible tie in to both his heritage and his sailing life), Dwarven (Good secondary trade language), and last Halfling(this language is more about knowing the lingo of halflings in my game. They tend to use a language that is a mixture of all the languages. Kind of a hodge-podge if you will. So if you know halfling you basically get a chance to know any word in the Core languages)

Hope this helps

My mind instantly reverted to a 15 year old's when it read "lots of half-orc seamen." XD
i'll select Aquan, add those four and the alignment into my sheet, then track down the spells and add them in too. There's no way I'll remember them otherwise.
Which means if we get to level 20 mine will easily be the longest sheet in the game.

I'm also trying to come up with a good series of questions/ observations in response to your proposed combat system. I'll post it a bit later.

See no reason why not. Up to rysil but I am sure hewill not have a problem with it. What character wereyou thinkingofplaying?

Name: Ryogen*

Player Name: cmky

Alignment: CN

Physical Description: (Age, Height, Weight, eye color, hair color, Skin tone)
Age: 20
Height: 5' 1"
Weight: 102lbs
Eyes: almond-shaped, green
Hair: straight, black, long
Skin Tone: Pale

Race: Human, Tian/Chelaxian

Class: Rogue

Items you might want:
Supple, fitted, black leather armor, a fine dagger; a hand crossbow; a set of lockpicks and other tools of the trade; a small trunk of clothes, make-up and accessories; various poisons.

History:
Ryogen is the lost daughter of the House of Tevineg. She is the daughter of a Tian mother and a Chelaxian father.
Ryogen loved the arts. Even at a young age, she excelled at dance, gymnastics, rhetoric and drama. When she was studying or indulging in the arts, she was 'slumming' with her friends, visiting the taverns, brothels and gambling hells of the poor districts, using her training in drama and speech to blend in.
At fifteen, this secret life was discovered by her step-mother and promptly ended.
At sixteen, she became the bargaining chip in a marriage alliance with House Candren, also of Absalom. Her marriage was brief and tumultuous. It ended with her husband dead, under mysterious circumstances, and her prompt departure from the city. She has spent the last year and a half on the move, with a bounty on her head.

Thoughts on Stats:
In order of importance, they are:
Cha
Dex
Int
Wis
Con
Str

Thoughts on skills:
Lockpicking, stealth, trap spotting.
After that, social skills would be the top priorities.

* Yes, this is the name I had for the character I played in the 'Coming Home' RP, but it's a really cool name, it took me forever to find it, and I only got to make like three posts before the story got dropped. If anyone has a problem, I'll change it.

Do you have room for one more? I've played pathfinder a few times and own my own book?

moon, I would suggest reading through the earlier posts and having a look-see at what I have written. After that I would also encourage you to post a prospective character, because the sooner you do, the sooner you are officially in. As of right now I only have 3 posted official characters. I have room for 6. So first come first serve.

Classes Needed!!

Ok, so far for this game I am looking at a list of prospective characters that include:

A Paladin
A Sorcerer
A Rogue
These three we have for sure now.

The tentative ones are:

A Rogue
A Ranger

My issue:
We need someone to cast healing spells or this is going to get real ugly. I know that some may think that there are ways to compensate. And there are, but the issue stems from not being able to maintain the longevity of the party. I would like to see the party not have to use the temple to buy healing constantly. I can bring in a cleric that is already made, but then again I would prefer a PC healer of some sort. Those of you who have gamed before know that a healer is essential to party longevity. So, here is the list.

Bard ~ This is a beautifully multifaceted class. It can heal, it can support, it can buff, and they are great at some of the scoundrel roles as well. cmky, I would urge you to take a better look at Bard as this class fits your character concept much better.

Cleric ~ This is an all around powerhouse of a class. You heal. You are the bane of all undead, you heal, at later levels you can rival Wizards and Sorcerers for power, you heal, The powers associated with the domains can be incredible, you heal, You can swap out any spell you know for a healing spell of the same level, Oh and you heal really really well.

Druid ~ Druids rock the house. They get an animal companion. They can swap out any spell for summon Nature spells. They can eventually wildshape into fantastic creatures (Even Dragons). Lastly they can heal as well. Of the three I like druid the least as a solo healer, but they can still get the job done.

Words of disagreement.

Now I know we have a Paladin, but a pally is never and should never be the primary healer(This isn't WoW folks). A Paladin is often right in the thick of things. He can't afford to fall back to heal the sorcerer. So, just in case I would suggest no.

We could also play with an npc'd cleric, but that ends up being a ridiculous heal bot that has no real bearing. Not to mention the fact that I am already playing several roles as the GM. I would prefer not to have to run a heal bot for a party of 6.

Items, are another way to deal with healing. While I agree that cure potions are valuable beyond reason, I have never believed that they should function as a primary means of health. Mainly because there are cases where I can strip you of your items. But a caster can just be patient :D

Then there is the temple. This one is horrible. While you can earn free healing and aid from a temple, it will run out and you will have to pay. Then there is the even worse scenario where one surviving party member (Usually the cleric) is forced to figure out what to do with all the unconscious PC's while still facing foes. In this case a cleric is a rock. They can wear heavy armor, fight as good as some paladins, and they can heal as well as cast combat spells? Yeah cleric for the win in that scenario.

So, for those of you still considering? Go cleric. Just my opinion, but think of it this way.

If you had the chance to get advice on how to invest from someone with 22 years experience investing, would you turn it down? Just a thought :D:D:D

Name: Aruku Per'Esh
-Player Name: emipet

Physical Description: Aruku is 5ft 2in tall and weighs 115pds. She is curvy and busty for

a half-elf and her eyes are green and almond shaped. She wears her hair long tied back in a

ponytail that reaches to the top of her butt. Her skin is a delicate gloden tan color. She

has an oval face and high cheekbones.

Race: Half Elf

Alignment: NG

Class: Cleric of Rysil
Items you might want: quarterstaff, light crossbow and 10 bolts, studded leather armor,

backpack, belt pouch, wooden holy symbol, spell component pouch, bedroll, flint and steel,

rations (10), waterskin. Some of her previous career's clothes for city stays.

History: Aruku was born on a ship at sea travelling from Tian Xia to Avistan. It was

attacked by pirates and the wreckage and survivors washed up at Riddleport. Aruku's mother

raised her in the slums of Riddleport eking out an existance but barely. She died when

Aruku was barely out of puberty and Aruku survived by being a prostitute. At age 21 she was

the companion of a priestess of Rysil and 'found' her calling. She left Riddleport and

studied and traveled with the Priestess Amilea. By age 28 she had been consecrated as a

full cleric and has since travelled prosetylizing and doing deeds in praise of praise Rysil.

Quirks: Rather, um, zealous in her attitudes about Rysil. One could say a bit irksome.
She is very comfortable with her body and others and enjoys sex.
Aruku is a bit frugal.
She also is honest and truthful, but she won't purposefully hurt someone.
