Petty Pet Peeves

Is there an english speaking nation where 'grinded' and 'binded' are proper English, because I'm finding myself taken out of stories to say, "for the seventieth time it's 'ground'/'bound'" way way too often. 70 is hyperbole but less than a factor of 7.

These were more related to laps, unfortunately, but I will note it down in my notes for the formal complaint I'm writing.
“Do you take milk and sugar?” Emily asked liliput1, as she grindified coffee beans.

You're already on a list for the tentacle thing, Miller. <rubs bridge of nose>
I have a few other names you can add to that list if tentacle stuff is criteria... I'll soon be joining it, so if you wanna put me down pre-emptively, that's fine.

I'm good.

But should it come up, which is seeming more likely, what surname does your persona's mom use when she's full-naming you?

My full legal name is Anthrodisiac *schreeshurrrrk* Archaeopteryx.

That's *schreeshurrrrk* with five r's.

Hmm. That's problematic. If I call you 'Archaeopteryx' in anger it sounds like I'm being racist.

You win this round but I'll be back.

Yup! That's the scene and story.
Further vs farther.

Drives me up the wall. Every time I read or hear it being used incorrectly, I mutter the correct one under my breath. Every time.
Or weary vs wary. That one is so prevalent that my SO kept double checking which one I actually meant for the first several months that he was editing for me. I know the difference though, and it drives me nuts seeing people improperly use em.

I've been annoyed when finding myself screwing up the past tenses of words. For instance, using "lied" instead of "lay," "thrusted" instead of "thrust," "grinded" instead of "ground" (I'm not sure if this one is technically incorrect), and so on. But I will admit that like many other things in the English language, some of this in my view is a little unintuitive. 😅

To come back to this. I see sex scenes in my head as a write them, so I normally don’t have the FMC and MMC kiss when doing reverse cowgirl.

But, when I’m alpha or beta reading, I do the same with other people’s work, and it’s one of the things that I often give feedback on. Like if the woman has knelt down to do X to the man, then she would logically reach up to do Z, rather than down.

It gets even more complicated with group. I have been known to draw diagrams 😬

I need some data points but I feel like I hear it more when I use text-to-speech, which one or two of you have recommended as a way to copyedit your own stories. Probably some merit to that. At least for some of us.

If I had a dollar for every time I went into a blind panic over complimentary versus complementary I could buy a coffee, even in this economy.

The author chooses a Big/little pairing and forgets partway through that one partner is over a foot taller than the other and therefore in a 69 some things will be out of reach. Unless it's really, really long. Which they haven't mentioned so far.
Funny you should mention this.

I had that scenario happen in my last story:
I put my right elbow beside her shoulder again as I rocked my hips against her. I had to hunch my back more than I expected to kiss her mouth without withdrawing, but I managed it.

I should probably have the same thing happen in my follow-on WIP, but have him say his back's too sore to give it a try.

Pro tip, woman riding your lap makes up for a bit of height difference. But I finally wised up and was with a girl over 5’9” for long enough that I can no longer recall exactly by how much. Best guess, measure the seated thickness of your thigh and multiply by 1.8 since it’s only the torso difference you’re looking at. Or subtract inseams if you know those.
