Planetside - OOC

Yes, I'm in agreement with ya, Ren. Let's get this party started. :nana:

What did ya think of Atal's back story, Ren?

sounds good, im thinking of dropping a little more into Cormac's.

Ra, any concepts for medals? i kind of picture Cormac as a grizzled veteran with several decorations he has had worked into his armor so he can display them in combat.

Ren.... is your avatar from IceWind Dale? it looks really familiar.

here's my broken soldier heh.

Seth "Grunt" Salem

Sex: Male
Age: 26
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 215 lbs
Colouring: dark brown eyes, short dark brown hair, and a very closely trimmed beard.
Designation: Support class

Armament:
M151 carbine assault rifle
MG12 particle beam rifle (slung over the back)
MK 67 pistol (version of a standard issue pistol with extended barel, caseless rounds)
Combat knife
High density plated armour capable of stoping small rounds and perhaps avoiding massive bodily damage by medium - larger sized rounds
Rocket propelled grenades that are fitted to the MG12 beam rifle
Tactical nuclear device is replaced with a small nuclear generator

The nuclear generator lasts for years, as it's power output is reactive to demands, usually being none. the generator is a power supply for the beam rifle, however if armed properly, or put under similar conditions as a standard issue nuclear pack, it yields an explosion of the same magnitude.

Personality: to begin with, anti-social and quiet due to past history, may at any time have no clue what you're talking about even though it seems common sense. likes to hum when on the job. He isn't unfriendly, and how this changes is really up to how the group works, but comes off as abrupt. this tendancy to be blunt and quiet has earned him the nickname "Grunt." He also has infrequent spells of bodily pain, a result due to changes in his muscle system. these pains can be annoying, to temporarily crippling, and are usually triggered by extended periods of intense physical activity, as he does not expell bodily toxins built up very well.

BIO: Seth voulenteered for a newly developed experiment within the military, taking regular soldiers and adapting them to compete with other species whom were developed more suitably to combat. Seths section had major surgery, coating their bones in a potent calcium alloy, and giving their muscle groups chemical injections. these formulas were never revealed to Seth or any of the other members of the groups, but it resulted in bones that would break only in the most extreeme of conditions, and denser muscles. The compound in the muscles did not actually cause the soldiers to posess great strength, it at first doesn't do anything noticable. what the compound does is reduces the natural tendancy for atrophy that weakens a body not under continual training. Over years Seth's body had become hardened, allowing for greater stamina, and dense muscles.

most of the soldiers responded with positive results to this procedure, afterwards however the program continued with modifications to the brain. the scientists wanted faster reaction times, and heightened senses. This met with disaster, as more than half of the soldiers simply died on the table, and the one's that survived began to show mental instability, their improved senses becomming a source of strain that eventually lead to mental breakdown within only a few days. the unlucky ones woke up paralysed, or certifiably insane.

Seth was the second to last soldier to go through the neural modifications. to make it short, they botched the job. the injections were misplaced, and physical modification performed on the wrong part of his brain (hey, everyone is slightly unique). The chemicals were filtered through his waste system and passed into the toilet harmlessly, however the physical alteration to his brain left him with most of his memories gone, and a completely changed personality. when he entered the program he had been an eager man, ready to solve the problems of the world, when he left, he was quiet and internal, and his lack of memories left him no social skills.

Seth had been listed as a failure of the project earlier than any other member who survived the augmentation, and was removed from the program. After the results of the other patients came to the end, Seth's file was retroactively wiped clean of his involvment in the project. As a result his spotty record did not allow him most military jobs in the military, certainly no public ones. One of the few positions left open to him, he joined up with the SMF teams.

***
all of this made short, he is simply a tough bastard (but still has that squishy human quality that skin gives) and is somewhat anti-social, at least to begin with in the thread. he also has a incomplete and questionable service vitae.

PLEASE let me know if anything should be changed. i realize the whole military adaptation program might be sketchy, it doesn't do a whole lot, moreso explains some of his flaws than anything else heh, but i understand if i have to completely revamp this charecter.

this is going to be a blast i think when we do get started just let me know when the thread itself is up and i'll go in and post. *SMILES* OHH btw i will be gone over the holidays visiting family and such as i am sure most of you will be too so wanted to say HAPPY THANKSGIVIING!!!

i have no idea where he's from, i got it from egs-avatars.com i just thought he looked cool.

I think medals would be something similar to what most military units have now. You've got your standard valor commendations, like the Silver Star, Distinguished Service Cross, blah blah blah. And then you'd have your campaign specific medals - like the Liberation of Kuwait Medal/ribbon, Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal/ribbon, stuff like that.

Nice character, Khadgar. What's his rank?

Special Mission Force Team 5 C/O:

Name: Harper, Jack P.
Age: 42
Hgt: 6'1" Wgt: 190
Race: Human
Rank: O4 (Major)
Primary Specialty: Intelligence
Secondary Specialty: reconaissance

Graduated top of his class from Alliance University with a degree in intergalactic law, Jack was hastily recruited into the ADC when test scores showed he had a high aptitude for coimmand. After officer training, he attended the basic and advanced intel schools on Earth and Byir. He was then assigned as an intelligence analyst for the Special Operations Battalion. This assignment required him to go out in the field on several occassions with the SMF Teams to gather on-site intel. It eventually lead to him undergoing the training schedules for SMF indoctrination and eventual assignment as a team leader.

Harper gained a reputation as he lead his team through the Colonial Wars and the many spouts of colonial terrorism that have popped up. He is a decorated combat veteran, and one who is respected by superior and junior alike. Harper leads from the front, yet doesn't hesitate to order his operators into a deadly situation alone. Someone once described his style of command as a "calculated risk taker, because he won't bet on anything unless he knows he will win".

Major Harper currently has 20 years of service with the ADC and is looking forward to stepping down soon. He has refused promotion to colonel twice already, because he doesn't like the idea of commanding from behind a "fucking desk" as he states. He is a no-bullshit, in your face leader that listens to and understands the uniqueness of each of his operators. He expects all of his team members to keep the SMF creed of "leave no one behind". It is well-known that if Harper's team is called in, something will get blown up, there will be a high body count, and the objective will be met with the utmost veracity.

Harper carries the standard issue M151 assault carbine with 20MM grenade launcher. He carries a few frag grenades, and a M67 pistol with a suppressor. In addition, he has the standard combat body armor, rucksack, knife, water canister, etc.

Pretty cool. He's not really a criminal, though, right?

According to military records, he is. But in reality, he's not. He's simply guilty of having a mission go wrong, in a spectacular, explosive way.

oh, i should probably add in that my charecter would have the standard kit. you know, a hangful of grenades, a canteen, binoculars, scope, nightision, but honesty i kind of expect that to be already just sitting on the military ship we're traveling in, so i figured i could pick it up there rather than include it in my charecter's info.'

as for rank, i donno.... we could call him E6.
sure, before his introcudtion to the program he was E7, however due to his rejection from the program and his spotty memory he was demoted to hold a little less resposibility, but he couldn't be demoted too far or else it would draw too much suspision to his vitae.

i honestly don't know what rank would e good, and if we're crashing on an alien world no one knows, i don't expect ranks to be terribly important. if there's 40 people left alive, and only 5 in the military, i doubt privates are going to keep snapping their spines to attention when a corporal comes into sight.

so maybe i'm wrong, but i don't think it's too terribly importat.

Yeah good call, Khadgar. He'll fit in somewhere in there.

And yeah Jedi you may post to it.

I will probably be away for a few days with friends and family for Thanksgiving.

Enjoy your upcoming holiday, and I look forward to reading your posts when I return. Have fun, this ORP thread has a very serious side to it, but I think it can also be a lot of fun. Please don't shoot any of the scientists, though. They are not for target practice should any of your characters get bored.
