Portal to Adventure

Alyar

I take advantage of the moment of isolation I've created for myself to look around for Alia. I spot her and begin to move in that direction, when I see the wraiths rise between us. I break into a trot, swatting the head from a lumbering zombie that comes too close to my path. When Alia raises her holy symbol and the wraiths fall upon her like jackals instead of dissipating, I break into a full run. Before I can get far, though, lightning rips through the insubstantial forms, leaving a lone survivor to sink into the ground. Seeing no other forms near the fallen elf, I skid to a halt on my knees at her side. Using my sword's glow as a lantern, I examine her face. The odds of a wraith affecting a priest of her power are slim, I think to myself, but so many at once would test Tymora's own luck.

As her eyes focus on me, I smile reassuringly. "one might find this an odd time to lie down and rest, my lady." I glance quickly around to be certain no new threats approach before continuing. "Can you still remember your most potent spells?"

I growled in anger and disgust at what I was witnessing. One, damnit, ONE!! Sorcerer Vampire was making short work of this crew. Not if I could help it. To hell with the plan; this vampire was making a hash of it anyway. My sword swept from its sheath, and the last few zombies and skeletons near me fell in a whirlwind of blows. My own faith was bolstering my attacks, the power of which could easily find the heart of a two-hundred year old oak. I moved purposefully into this wrecked village, looking for more of these minions. If that damned sorcerous vampire couldn't bring himself to face me, I'd content myself with wreaking havoc upon his army of dead.

The world seemed to move in slow motion as the battle ensued, the nasty vampire taking advantage of our frantic, and not-so-effective attacks. Before I had time to find my saviour, I was thrown back into the foray, sending out passionate order's to my animal charges. The first wave of my kin fell into line and rushed in...the larger tearing the skeletal undead in two with large teeth, claws, and antlers. The smaller of my brothers and sisters hoarded together, moving as one, leaving bleached, dismembered bones in their wake. They were indeed affective against the mindless evil before them, but that sentient vampire was a different matter entirely...

I looked to the waiting group of animals closest to me, readying themselves for the next onslaught, and knew they had things well in hand. I felt it was safe enough to switch back to my bipedal form, now that I was settled enough to think more clearly. I quickly chanted the calming words of change and went from feline back to bi-pedal feline. Within moments, I was yelling out an incantation of Shielding around us, protecting all within a small radius...

I turned just as the ball of electricity hit, my eyes shielded from it's brilliance, to see Lothius scrambling towards me...he was so close...almost within arms length and I reached for him, seeing his eyes go wide at the sight behind me. At the last instant I watched in disbelief as he dove forward, snatching me up...rolling with me to the burning ground. He hadn't heard my spell being chanted...he had come to my aide...he was my saviour...

Strahd

Strahd looked down to see what he had done to that feline creature and saw to his disgust that it was still alive but was now in a different form. With a shout that seemed to come from the depths of a crypt Strahd flew down, changing forms as he did. As soon as he was on the ground he walked towards the feline creature and the illusionist and with the wave of a hand sent the illusionist flying through the air to land into a tree with a sickening thud.

Strahd looked at the feline creature with a contempt that came from hating everything good. He saw that the creature was going to try and get away so he moved faster than anyone could have followed and wrapped one hand around her throat, lifted her off her feet and said, "Before I kill you I would like to say that you were a pitiful prey."

He then moved and threw the creature through the air to land to the ground several feet away. He rushed to where it was and picked it up again before slamming his open hand across the side of its face.

"But first comes the pain."

Lothius

Lothius had just in time made a duplicate of himself, and in the progress turned invisible. Now he was watching his duplicate crash into some trees.
He quickly turned his attention to Sutashi again but the vampire had allready thrown her away.

Lothius sees the vamp approaching Sutashi again and sees him standing over her. "Where the hell is everybody, hello people, a vampire!" he thought to himself. He was almost out of spells and nothing he had done had any effect on the beast.
An illusionist against a vampire, a vampire can't stand garlic! It is worth a try, for the sake of Sutashi, let it work. He waves his staff, speaks some sentences and points towards the spot where Sutashi was laying. "Garlic!" and the same moment Sutashi is surrounded with garlic, as is the vamp, garlic in every sense, the best part was it smells like garlic.
But the vamp was allready hitting her with his claws.......

Lothius takes a stick from the ground which looks the most like a stake and begins running towards the two.

Strahd turned when he heard the footsteps running towards him and dropped the feline creature to the ground before looking at the illusionist- a large stake in his hand. He looked at the illusionist with a smile and raced towards him, grabbing the stake as he passed him.

He then saw that the illusionist had stopped dead in his tracks and looked at his now empty hands then at Strahd with a look of pure hatred on his face. Strahd moved towards him and said, "Did you really think that you were going to kill me with this?"

He stabbed down with the stake, straight into the illusionist's leg who screamed out in pain. Strahd then twisted the stake, causing the illusionist to scream out even louder and making Strahd grin. Strahd then picked up the illusionist and looked straight into his eyes with a malevolent look and said, "You didn't have a chance."

Strahd then threw the illusionist through the air to land on the ground several feet away. He then turned his attention to the prone form of the feline creature and said, "Now, where were we. Oh yes." before he began to rip into the feline creature's right side with his long, sharp fingernails.

Another wave of minor undead, still not even raising a sweat, simply crushing them where they shuffled. Where the hell had that vamp flown off to? Closing my eyes, focusing... There! A blacker void against this backdrop of evil; two weak shining lights nearby. Without pause, I turn and grind my way through the group of zombies, almost abentmindedly whacking limbs from their bodies. Finally, a chance to fight the good fight. The Vamp was on the ground. Briefly, I thanked Tyr that I was no knight, bound by no code of chivalry. No way in hell I was warning this thing to prepare for my attack. Calling the holy power of Tyr to aid me, and carefully focusing the power of my blow, With both hands, I swept my blade straight into the vampire's side before he could do any more damage to the shape-shifting druid. A gout of fluid, and a terrible howl of pain told me I had first blood for certain in this battle. I also had the Vampire's attention. Warily, he eyed me, something between respect and fear in his eyes as he clutched his wounded side.

He was still standing. This is why I hate vampires. An orc, ogre, or, hells, even a troll would have been split in half, but this guy took my best shot and hadn't lost his feet. Setting my jaw, I prepared myself for his best shot. Knowing I could take his worst, maybe even twice. He wouldn't survive another blow from me. This I was certain of.

Strahd looked at the paladin with a look of shock and pure hatred. His hand went down to his side and felt the blood that was seeping between his fingers. He looked down at his side and saw that the sword that the paladin was carrying had definitely hit him with a blow that was causing him a lot of pain and he knew that if he didn't get out now he would be killed. He smiled at the paladin, "We will have another battle but not yet. You have saved your friends, for now."

He then jumped up into the air and flew away from where the paladin stood, his sword at the ready and sought out the dark cleric. As soon as he landed he looked at the cleric and said, "You have to heal me.... that paladin must pay for this!"
"What are you doing, coming here towards me. I mustn't be seen, not yet at least."

Strahd picked the cleric up off his feet and said, "You will heal me now or I will kill you without another thought. Now, do it!"

Bail placed his hands to the vampire's side and closed his eyes, his hands glowing with a gray nimbus. The vampire howled in pain and then felt something different with his side, it felt a little better. He looked down at it and saw that the cleric hadn't healed it- he had burnt it closed. He looked at the cleric with a smile before dropping him to the ground and flying off.

....And that's the other reason I hate Vampires; they fly away rather than face an honorable death in a clean fight. At that point, the Illusionist, Lothius, made it back to me. He was holding his arm, his face a mask of pain.

"Broken?" I asked.

"Broken." the reply.

I looked at the wooden stake sticking out of his leg. "That must hurt."

"Like nobody's business."

I said a brief prayer, and felt the words to heal flow through me. Focusing this healing on the illusionist, I smiled as I watched bone knit, torn muscles made whole again, and blood flowing properly through his arm. The wound in his leg puckered and sealed, healthy, unblemished skin forming easily.

"Thanks, Paladin. What in the hell took you so long?"

"All part of the service, Lothius, and... I ran into a few old friends."

I stopped to seek out the Vamp, just remembering the Sorcerer's flight spell would enable me to finish it in its bat form, but for some reason, I couldn't feel his dark nimbus of malevolence nearby.

Neale/Alia

I shook my head to clear it, chuckling softly at the "My Lady" bit from our new friend, Alyar, "No, I'm fine. The wraiths' negative energy attacks were successfully rebuffed by my protective spells, mostly, and I was able to shake off the ones that got through." I stood up, a grim look on my face, "Where's the vampire? He must have been some sort of evil priest in his former life, because those damned wraiths were bolstered VERY effectively against my turning!"

We made our way over to where the others had gathered in the aftermath of the vampire's attack, where I saw that Ivy had been seriously hurt. I rushed to her side, and knelt in prayer to my god for the strength to heal her. A nimbus of cool green energy corruscated from my palms and swept along the gaping wound in her side, closing it, and healing much of it. Still, I knew, she'd be in bad shape until I could regain my spent spells in prayer, though in no mortal danger.

Sutashi (Ivy)

My dreams were fitful...droplets of perspiration streaming down my fevered brow. I dreamt of horrendous things...of being collared and leashed...of someone dragging me, my throat being constricted...brambles and thorns tearing at my flesh...

Then I heard soft voices...voices I knew and loved. My eyes opened slightly and I made out the blurry form of Alia peering down at me.

What is she saying...?

"You're going to be just fine..." she repeated softly.

I tried to smile, but hurt too much to try long.

"Did...we all make it...? Is everyone...okay?"

Neale/Alia

"No worries, pretty lady." I smiled at Ivy, reassuring her with a touch, "The lion's share of the lesser undead have been smashed, Alyar and I have taken care of the wraiths, and Kyle seems to have driven the vampire away... You were pretty badly hurt, damn near eviscerated, in fact, but Carellon Larethian granted me the power to save your life." I touched my holy symbol at that, marvelling anew at the bond between me and my god, despite my origins.

"However," I continued, "Dr. Neale is prescribing rest for you, young lady! That battle took a lot out of me, healing power-wise, and I won't be able to fully heal you until tomorrow. Kyle's healing powers have been exhausted as well, and I don't really think they would up to healing you fully even at full strength."

"Not quite exhausted, but Tyr's letting me know that his patience is wearing thin. I've been calling pretty heavily on The even-handed one's might here." I grinned. "Wouldn't mind getting my hands on that bloodsucker for another quick battle; the Hells have been waiting too long to claim that one."

A few more swings of the sword put the last of the undead right back where they belonged....mouldering along the ground. As she stood up from the fight, her hair was in disarray and sweat and ochre mixed on her skin and armor and she knew she smelt terrible.

"Give me a dance hall any night," She mumbled to herself,"At least my partners know when to lead and when to stand the hell back!"

Sheathing the sword, she could already feel the numbness of exahustion moving into her arms and legs as she moved to join her comrades. Once again Val's leadership skills came to the fore.

"A report of the injured and/or dead," She said as she came to them praying silently that the latter would be zero. "I want all present and accounted for no matter what their shape."

As she gazed at each of them in turn, she added,"We all fought a good fight but there was supposed to be someone caught in this group of undead. If I remember correctly it was the reason we got involved in the first place. I want those who are not injured to go in pairs to look for him or her but I dont want anyone wondering too far away from this base here. Everyone remain within shouting distance."

"I dont like to say this but I dont think whomever it was is still alive and I dont want any of us to join them."

Jothal / Jamie

"Alive, but feeling pretty toasted after that damned Vampires fireball" I said, touching an invisible finger to my eyebrows to see if they were still intact. "This survivor was at the village centre, wasn't he? Near the blacksmiths? I'll have Dak take a look."

Casting an invisibility spell upon Dak, as the one that cloaked me would not also cover him once he moved more than a few feet away, I sent him to take a look.

After he responded that he had found the living survivor, after settling quietly down on the edge of the blacksmith's roof, I concentrated on Dak's location and scried, to observe him or her.

"Uh-oh... maybe its not someone we want to rescue after all... its a priest of Cyric. Maybe we can get some answers for whats been going on here from him, at least, though he is a priest of the Prince of Lies."

OOC: Okay.... I have a question, why is it that Bail is suddenly found out to be a dark cleric when he can hide himself really well?

That just blows my character out of the water- we need a new bad character now

OOC--OOPS: LOL, your bad, Kepic, old buddy!

OOC: Okay, we are all going to pretend like our friend never said any of that... It was all a dream brought on by too much Pokemon! Please ignore that post, and forgive my good friend.

Setting: (What Jothal actually meant to say)

As Jothal flew out over the ruins of the village, scouting for survivors, he and his familiar heard the thin, reedy wailing of an infant. Flying closer to investigate, they saw a mound of undead remains surrounding the badly battered and bloodied form of a human warrior, who appeared to be dead at first, until they saw him twitch feebly. They could make out the shape of a small cradle in the corner of the stone wall at his back, and clearly hear the infant's unhappiness.

/OOC:Hope you don't mind, Kepic. It is in a good cause.

Taran (backing up the new setting)

I've never fought zombies before. It was so weird watching all my friends blow these zombies away with fireballs and magic, while I was just hacking away like a madman at anything I could see.

Eventually the chaos cleared and the ground was absolutely covered with dead bodies. In vain I searched through the bodies, hoping to rescure any survivors I might find, but there were very few that weren't killed by the zombes.

My hopes were lifted when I heard the sound of a baby...crying? I quickly made my way towards the noise, but Jothal had alreay beaten me too it.

Neale/Alia

"I'm staying right here, by Ivy, Val. She's really not healed enough to be running around. No, she's in no danger of dying, but I still don't want her to risk opening that wound. When we can, I'd like to find a place to set up camp for the night, and we can make a litter, and carry her there. As soon as I have some time to pray and restore my spells, I'll have her as good as new!"

Jothal

On sighting the fallen warrior, who had obviously fought long and hard to protect the infant cradled beneath him - possibly his own - I gasped.

Dak, get the others! Quick! I instructed, flitting over the prone warrior to the infant in the cradle to the back, cancelling my invisibility as I did so.

The childs wails died away as I picked it up - him, I discovered after a quick check, then almost as quickly wished that this world had invented disposable nappies, though the more cheerful gurgles of the babe were much more of a comfort to hear than the horrid hisses of the wraiths and low moans of the zombies.

"Taran!" I shouted, knowing he was close by, seeing him as I had scouted about the village.

Kiai

Wlking over to his comrades holding onto a gash on his arm, Kiai flinched as the pain from his wide-open wound flied through his body. Once there seeing everyone rushign around, and castign healing spells and some moving towards and around the hosue in the center of the village he said in a slightly sarcastic tone, "Looks like you guys had fun over here. "

Taran

"I'm here!" I quickly bobbed and weaved between the dead bodies to Jothal.
"What the hell...." I saw the fallen man and the baby cradled in Jothal's arms, and I quickly moved towards the man. Looking him over, I could see he was barely alive, obviously having fought long and hard to protect the child.

Standing up, I nodded at Jothal, and ran off to find someone with healing powers.

Alyar

When Alia rises and moves off to heal the wounded, I begin to move in a circle around the core group of party members, spiraling outward through the hacked corpses, liooking for anything of note on the bodies or the ground nearby.

When Jothal finds the wounded man and brings him back in, I move over to see how bacly he is wounded.
