Portal to Adventure

Michelle/Valencia

Turning my horse toward the road, I caught Kiai's look and wink. I let a smile play upon my lips for just a moment before spurring my horse on.

"We must hurry," I said to everyone,"We have wasted enough of the sun's light." Hurrying forward, I let my steed's speed eat up the miles as I forged ahead looking for any and all signs of danger to the group.

On the Road to Adventure again... finally!

The newly-chartered group of adventurers made good time on their new horses, gifted them by Alustriel of Silverymoon. For many of the group, this was their first time away from a city, or even on a horse. Well, for their 'true' selves, anyway. As dusk approached, a decision was made to camp for the night. However, as they approached a spot that the maps had indicated to be a primary rest spot, the more sensitive noses amongst the party detected the carrion stench of death, and the occasional sound of battle.

Little Calliean spoke up then, pointing out that she was the Rogue, after all, and the best scout here, easily. Very little time had passed after she left the group, when she returned to tell of a mass of undead of various descriptions had evidently slaughtered most of the inhabitants of this little rest stop. Also, a strangely familiar figure was defending the town hall from the approaching horde, but it was evident that he would soon fall. Night was falling quickly, and if the group had to hurry into the village, as the undead were known to be more powerful after dark.

Bail

Bail looked out at the village with a smile and a laugh. Those stupid fools had finally arrived. It felt as though he had been sitting out here forever. He looked out over the fields at all the undead that he had managed to bring back to life and said to himself, "Well at least I've been busy."

All he had to do now was to make it so that he would be rescued by those fools and become a part of their stupid little group. But now that they were finally here he could put his little plan into action.

Taran

Great. No sooner do we manage to get out of trouble we're landed in it once again. A village full of undead? I'm a teensy weensy bit apprehensive about riding full pelt towards a village full of undead.

As we rode a thought suddenly occured to me. I shouted out, "Can anyone tell me how the hell we're supposed to kill a dead person?"

Neale/Alia

Part of me was scared shitless... but part of me was filled with serene confidence. After all, my god, Correlan Larethian had granted me great power over undead, for, faced with his holy symbol, I could force most of them to flee, if not blast them out of existence.

Kiai

Never really enjoying stayign in large groups, Kiai felt the same as Michael did. Standing up formt he campfire Kiai said to the group, "I'm gona go train a little. Don't worry I'll only be about 20 feet away!" ^_^

Calmly walking out a distance Kiai felt a cold dampness over himself. An eerie feeling sent goosebumps up and down his neck. "I hate mist.." He said with a roll of his eyes, and he then began slashing at the air with his Katana,a s its blade glistens in the Moonlight...

Jothal

"Mostly animated corpses I expect... or hope at least... skeletons, zombies... not sentient undead" I murmured. "Anyone have a chainsaw and shotgun handy? We could do our own rendition of Medieval Dead" I joked morosely.

I scolded myself inwardly at that... these were once real people. Living, breathing, people.

"Sorry" I said. "I've still got to get used to the idea that this isn't just some game world any more. I guess this isn't just about playing a character with a chaotic alignment now."

Kyle

I grinned.

"The walking dead aren't too much threat. If they've flesh still on their bones, your blade is just as good against them as the living. Skeletal ones, you'd do best to use a mace or hammer to break the bones. I know nothing of this.. shot ghun, but it sounds like something particularly nasty. The souls once housed in those bodies will thank you for preventing their old homes being used for evil purposes. We've an adventurer to assist, and undead to return to their graves! Let's get to it!"

Neale/Alia

As they cautiously approached the accursed village, I motioned for the others to gather round. Calling upon my god's blessings, I cast an enchantment about them all to enhance their abilities in combat. Callie had just returned from her scouting trip, and reported that there seemed to be one still-living person, holed up in the village smithy, defending himself against a horde of mostly zombies and skeletons.

Kiai

Following Alia's orders, Kiai stayed close to the group. Hearing the report of the one survivor, Kiai siad quickly, "Yo! We've gotta go save them!!!" As he almost ran off, he remembered he was actign more like his real-world self, then the one that has to survive in thsi one... Turning back aournd to face the group, Kai put a hand on the back of his head, grinned with his eyes clsoed, and said, "Maybe I'll just wait for you guys... you know... for your protection!" ^_^

Kyle

I grinned at the Samurai.

"Both your eagerness and your caution do you credit. With faith, and strong will, we will prevail."

That said, I move into a point position. Lifting an eyebrow, I ask Alia, "Shall I attempt to drive them out with Tyr's will first? Correllon will surely hear your call 'gainst those my faith cannot repel."

Michelle/Valencia

I took a deep breath and looked upon the scene before me. I didnt know if we were prepared for this but it didnt look as if we had much choice. I just prayed that our bodies would take over and kick into gear once we were faced with these things.

Looking over to Alia, I said,"You take charge of the mages. Put them into stratigic places but for the love of the gods...keep them out of the melee." It was an old D&D standard. Everyone knew from day one that you put your magic users at the back so that the fighters could protect them while they used their spells.

Turning to Sutashi, I said,"I need you to go into the forest in your present form and contact the animals. I want all you can round up and I want them brought here to help us fight if they are willing. They know that their forest will be unlivable if the undead occupy it. Use that and tell them that we are willing to clear them out with their help."

To Kai, I said,"Flank them on the right while I take the left. Hold your position until Alia can get our mages set up."

Back to Alia,"When you are ready, I want the first attack to come from you. Make it something spectacular and use your holy magic. I want to blast through as many as we can on the first attack and then use the surprise to our advantage."

"After the first initial magic attack, the other mages will attack all at once just make sure no one neutralizes anyone elses spells and we three will charge into the fray. Cover us until Sutashi can get there with reinforcments."

I took a deep breath after that and looked at them all. "Does everyone understand?"

He sat there and watched the village with an evil, cold smile on his face and wondered what that pitiful group was planning to do. He knew that he could wipe them out, well injure them badly with a spell but he knew that there would be two consequences to that. The first being he had destroyed the group too quickly and he wanted a little fun with them, destroying them from within and the second was that if they had a paladin that he or she would feel the build up of dark magic and warn the others.

Instead he just sat there and looked around until he noticed the sets of eyes watching him. He looked at them and sent a mental command telling them to come to him. With a whisper of noise three figures appeared and came up to where Bail sat, stopping in front of him. He looked at the shadowy figures and said, "I want you to go down into that village and cause havoc amongst the group down there."
"We will do as you command," one of the figures said before the three turned and the wraiths went down the hill into the village.

Jothal

"Okay, sounds like a plan" I said. "I'll summon a couple of air elementals... they should cause some disarray amongst those walking dead."

Sutashi

Nodding solemnly to Valencia, I took one last, lingering look at my friends before pulling gin'iro back into the foliage. I was so scared for them, the 'protector' within me tearing at my soul to go back and fight with them now. Of course Valencia was right, her commands were smart and decisive, it was just so hard from me to leave them, they meant the world to me...

I closed my eyes and spurred my mare into a quick gallop, our silvery manes swirling as the air rushed past. I felt the fear rise within gin'iro as I urged her to run faster. She had sensed it in all of us back at the clearing but had kept quiet as I guided her deeper and deeper into the woodlands.

I thought quickly of the best way to get a message out to the most powerful of the creatures that lived in this wood, and eased gin'iro into a slower gait so that I could begin to spread the word. The winged ones would be the quickest dispatchers and so I began with them, my message urgent and ominous. Then to the small and cunning ones, I knelt down and gathered those near, spewing my message to them, explaining the severity of the situation, imploring the larger of them to delve into the caves of the mighty bear. As they scampered to their task, I moved on to the gentle deer and agile elk that had now begun to gather, begging them to add their cousins to the cause, hoping that the largest of their brethren would come to our aide. I had instructed all as to where my friends were located and asked that they band together with myself and each other to rid their precious home of the wretched undead. I felt confident that they would be there for us, and I mounted gin'iro, readying those left with me for the battle ahead.

Alyar

I dismount and leave my horse to roam as she will while I fight. I listen to Valencia give orders for the coming battle. "Good. I see your battle training from this world is coming to the fore. By your leave, I will remain near the mages to guard their backs and yours, should there be any surprises here." I quietly unsheathe my bastard sword from my back and stand loosely at the ready, just to the right of the mages, readying a spell of my own.

I turn to the mages. "My lords, I believe we would do best with fire against these creatures. Zombies will burn like torches. Webs are also a good choice, especially if they are followed by fire, for any other sorts of physical creatures we may face. Should we face any of the more dangerous, noncorporeal undead, Alia, Kyle and I are perhaps best suited to dispose of them."

OOC: Neale, as we reach a position where we can see the battle from the undergrowth at the edge of the trees, I will be assessing the area for best placement of fireballs (assuming a 40' diameter blast), and speaking quietly with my fellow spellcasters so we place our first volley to best effect.

OOC: Well, I had Kyle going with Kai but I edited it for your post.

Lothius

Lothius watches Sutashi leave in her wild, though quite special form, he wants to follow her for two reasons. Reason one is to be near her, reason two are the undead. He remembers his experiences with them, or the experiences Lothius had with them, not Raymond, damn, it kept being weird. The undead, he remembers their claws ripping off his clothes, the teeth in his arm.
He pulls up his sleeve and touches a scar he only now remembers he had, it is the spot where the Ghoul had put his teeth before it was put out of his misery. He was saved, his family was not.
He turned to Alaric and puts up his mask once more, smiling he puts on his Galaxy Quest imitation; "Never give up! Never surrender Sir!"

Neale/Alia

"Well, gentlemen, looks like we are the main magickal firepower here. Go team! Tell you what, Jamie, you focus on blowing large groups to bits. Raymond, your illusions will have minimal effect on the undead, probably, but you might be able to convince them to bunch together, by putting illusionary obstacles in their way. Alyar, you and I will be pulling double duty. Both of us can wield a sword, as well as spellcast, so we will defend our wizardly friends. If any get too close, I can always turn them, but I would prefer to reserve that power for the more powerful ones we find."

Kiai

Nodding up and down at his orders, Kiai says with grin, "No problem here. I prefer working alone... Let's me kick ass my way! " he said with a wink and a crack of his knuckles.

With that Kiai started moving towards his position staying low to the gorund, never having his hand more than an inch away from his sword...

Kyle

I not to Alia.

"I hope there aren't any non-corporeal undead there. If there are any spectres or wraiths, we may have a problem."

Bail

Bail sat up on the hill and watched as the group moved towards the village, the magic users obvious to his watch as they were away from the rest of the group. He wondered what would happen when his group of wraiths came upon the group; it would be total chaos.

He wondered if he should conjure up anything that would be more unpleasant for them but he knew the greatest risk in doing so. He sat back and watched the group with interest.

Lothius

Lothius nodded when Alia said them what to do. He would use his illusions to let the undead appear to be humans so they would start bashing eachother and not him, or his friends ofcourse.

sorian

i've kept quiet all through the trip but i hate to see the undead.I pull my staff in front of me ready for anything."tell me how to deal with them and i'm with you"I said

Jothal

Gathering my concentration, I spoke out the words of summoning, entreating the elemental plane of air for assistance. As I was nearing the spells completion, Dak let out a caw and ruffled his wings nervously.

"Something doesn't... feel right" he said softly, and I looked at him and nodded silently as I finished the spell. As an animal familiar, he was sometimes able to sense things beyond normal perception, and Jothal's adventuring instincts, and my own game knowledge from playing him, told me that this was one such moment.

"Unnatural aura!" I called out, just as the swirling form of an air elemental appeared above me, ready to receive its instructions. "At least one intangible undead - within 30 feet of me and Dak!"

I cast my eyes about on the ground, knowing that the usual tactic for such ethereal creatures, able to fly through solid matter, was to jump out at unsuspecting victims, as I quickly begun casting another spell, to grant myself the power of flight.
