Present tense. Do you like it?

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, I love present tense. It is the moment, and that is what I capture

I feel like I'm describing something that happened a couple hours ago which is technically past tense but always feels odd to me because I could be writing a Regency romance in the exact same tense.

So I see the urge for present, but it just makes me feel fucking awkward. I want to learn a language that has more past tenses.
