Properly Introducing Myself

Drugs=Bad

raphy said:
Because good sense has zero influence when it comes to religious reactionary knee-jerk responses.

"Drugs are bad for you, therefore we must make them illegal."

They're treating the symptoms, not the cause.

I don't recall anything in the bible about drug use, or abuse. In fact, there are some parts of the old testiment that, for certain holidays, require one to not be able to distinguish friend from foe. Orthodox Rabbis achieve this state by drinking lots of vodka. Scripture doesn't require vodka, and I am quite sure that, barring conflict with other laws, a number of other intoxicants would be equally acceptable.

As for causing harm, there are some drugs that most certainly do. They do, though, because they've been 'stepped on,' or diluted with all kinds of mystery nastiness. Pure heroin, for example, has few ill effects on the user, save the terrible addiction. Other drugs, like crack and speed, do cause serious and sometimes permenant brain damage. LSD can play with one's neural pathways, creating long-lasting but non-productive conceptual associations. This, however, is not always the case.

The most harmful legal drug is tobacco in the form of cigarettes. It is powerfully addictive, extremely harmful, and creates lots of pollution. At a recent beach clean-up, the majority of waste was cigarette butts. Yuk!

As for causes... What are the causes of drug use, and abuse? I can only say that I used for a while and, in my understanding since, have come to the realization that I was fundamentally unhappy, and in pain emotionally. I was looking for anything that would shift my consciousness away from that misery, even for a while. Of course, the result was more misery, along with a few laughs. I don't regret anything in my life, though, and know that those experiences led me to be the person I am now. For that, I am profoundly grateful.

Now, I don't use, hardly ever drink, and am the most happy I've ever been. I do, from time to time, wish I could take a puff of this or that, but even when the opportunity arises, I don't. I'm not a stupid kid anymore. I have responsibilities, and can't fulfill them if I'm stoned.

Hmm, 16 hours (somewhere in the US), can't be more exact than that!

I do have an average pic of my eye on the computer somewhere, might see about adding it as my AV and change it when I get the chance (ie when I've taken a better photo).

I respect your view on privacy vs safety, and I can agree with it in some respects. I personally have no issue with showing my belongings to a bag inspector because I have nothing to hide and delays don't really impact on me all that much (just less time to enjoy some of the finer things in life!). However, being a bit of a pro-choice lobbier, I believe people should not be forced to reveal their private belongings to some trumped-up train driver who thinks they look a little suspicious. Also, let's face it, if there is something I really don't want you to find, you aren't going to find it. And if someone is carrying a bomb or something similarly harmful to mass life, then they REALLY aren't going to want a bag inspector to find it.

I'm not sure about you, but the bag inspectors themselves are usually gung-ho for about a month and then the comfort zone kicks in and the integrity of the process is lost anyway. So why invade people's civil liberties for something that will, in my opinion, reap very little if any reward. Don't get me wrong, if an initiative like this saves one life then it will have accomplished something, but I have my doubts that this is the area in which we need to be investing time and resources to fix the problem. The problem seems to me to be in the intelligence resources in preventing people from accessing the ingredients and support structures to create weapons and plans to take mass innocent lives. I don't have the answers, but searching bags on trains, buses is NOT the answer. UNLESS, they want to make it like travelling on planes, which does seem to be effective. (Have I just undone all of my argument with this last sentence).

Apart from that, your thread is really taking off. Congrats and keep the pics coming, I love them and might have to return the favour one day! :)

Love,
ns

Very good point! It is true that if a harm-doer is smart and really wants to hide something or achieve something, he'll find a way. So, maybe sticking to non-obtrusive metal detectors, etc. is a better idea.

Speaking of that though, and considering the forum we're in, have you heard of the new x-ray machines they'll be putting up in airports soon? I blogged about it a while back (and included pics from the news article)....talk about a way to force people to get over their shyness and body-consciousness!!!

But I hope your schedule involves some free time now and then when you're released from responsibilities and could choose a puff if you wanted. :)

Right you are about the harmful effects when nasty things are thrown in. Maybe legalization (of all the available illegal substances) would help clean them up a bit in regulation, but the bad stuff would still be out there.

Now, THAT is funny. How can you not know what's going on at my site? ;) I'm a writer...and I have lots of opinions and insights to share. That's about it. ;)

You know, the taint part IS funny though. Didn't even realize that about my name until I was designing the site and then loved the fact that the name implied something about the type of writing I do. ;)

You're so kind for delivering a message for me! I shouldn't be "playing" in Lit right now either, but here I am! Gotta start the workday off right. ;) It will be a fun project. I'll definitely share if I secure the deal. I've got a couple of weeks within which to convince a site that they need my unique contribution. ;)

I've been working on a wood project and discovered that the fumes are dangerous and intoxicating. I've had to add ventalation to my work area. It reminded me that some idiots actually breathe this stuff recreationally and, as a result, pickle their brains. There will always be people who'se misery outweighs their good sense.

As for me, I can't say that I'd want to take a puff, even if my life allowed it. I went through a stage a few years ago where I started to let go of unhealthy relationships. This included my relationship with cigarettes and, by association, pot. This process led me to be much happier, to find my wife and step daughter, and to release much of the emotional baggage I'd been dragging around for years.

If I were to smoke again, it would feel like re-embracing all the unhealthy stuff I released. It would be like stepping into the same stinky pile of shit a second time, just after I'd finally scraped the last bit off. Pardon my scatalogical metaphor, but I think you get my point.

BTW, I was trying to find some of your writing (other than the blog entries) on your site, but wasn't able to... Please advise!

I know all about disconnecting from bad relationships, with lovers to mere acquaintances and coworkers! :) I fully understand your determination.

Just go to Tara's Tales in the navigation at the upper left of my site, then choose which kind of writing you want to view. At the moment, I only include excerpts as the rights are held by the publishers, and I have yet to write something solely for the site...or put something to bed completely and not be in the process of reselling it. ;) But I'm looking for a way around it all....perhaps some audio files of my own voice reading my stories!

If you do note anything else you'd like to see and don't or vice versa, let me know. Perhaps I can incorporate them into the next round of updates. :)

You know it's funny but after going through this thread I got to say you are beautiful, no doubt about that, I especially love your ass and legs and normally I don't notice legs much but you got a wonderful pair yet having read your post I find you to be most sensual with your words, how you speak, of your thoughts on matters and the like.

You definitely got that personility some tend to lack and that can make all the difference in the world.

Hey Tara, how are you doing?

Hello! Ah, I'm trying to do twelve things at once, as usual. And on the computer, that can get pretty messy! ;)

Have enjoyed your thread...

Like all of us, being a juggler of things can be very tiresome and drawn out...Tara, best wishes on your writing adventure and deal. Hard work always pays off but do stop long enough in your busy day to enjoy the finer things in life...
The risen of the sun...puffy clouds racing in the sky...soft tender petals of a rose just opening up...a small bunny bouncing in the tall grass...fresh air cleaning out the junk in our space....

Just enjoy what ever you're doing...BTW have loved your photos...good, oh so good...thanks :rose:

these are the BEST pix I have seen yet. keep them and us comming. try some outdoor shots in stockings and garters.
