Pure Moonlight (closed)

The two families had pulled together to make sure that Selena was comfortable and safe during her second pregnancy. Her brother had made sure that she had a guard to be with her when she went out and about. Her mother was a frequent visitor and her step-father checked in on her progress. Kreston's family made sure that she was well fed and both Taqu'un and Volgo kept an eye on her. Her days of hard labor were over for the moment and she was content to simply sit with Dayja and her mother while her belly grew round.

One day while Kreston was fishing with Volgo and Taqu'un, Selena sat in front of the fire burning in the hearth and watched Ruben tinker with a block of wood. She smiled at her son and was extremely proud of the man that he was becoming.

"Come over here and talk to me, love." Selena said, kissing his cheek when he came close and sat next to her. "It's been a while since we've talked. Tell me what has been going on with you."

Ruben left his knife and wood block aside as he came to his mother's side. When she kissed his cheek, he nestled close against her side with his ear pressed to her heart. "Nothing's really new," he told his mother. "Grandpa's been teaching me how to make fishing gear. He says I'm almost good enough at it to start selling nets." He curled just a little closer. "Ma...? When the baby comes... Are you and Dad going to be too busy to spend time with anyone anymore?" Of course when he said 'anyone' he meant himself and his grandparents. Hearing his friends talk about when their own younger siblings came along made him worry that Selena and Kreston wouldn't have time for him anymore.

"I think you should start selling some nets. It would give you some pocket change that you could save up." Selena said, pausing as he asked her about when the baby came.

She had never known a world without her brothers in it, but she knew that she was asking a lot from Ruben to move to a new home, change into a wolf, and accept a new brother or sister. She held him tighter and kissed his brow.

"At first the baby will need a lot of attention from everyone, but I promise that I'll always have time for you, Ruben." She said softly. "It'll be different but I know you'll love having a sibling."

"I always wanted a little sister," Ruben told her, something he'd never admitted for fear of bringing up bad memories ever since he'd been old enough to understand the circumstances of the sister he'd lost and never known. "But a little brother would be fun too."

Selena smiled softly as her fingers gently brushed through his thick, dark fur. She had never heard him talk about the little sister that they had all lost, but she supposed that it had effected him as well.

"Krestina looked just like you." Selena said softly, looking down at her son. "She was a beautiful little baby. I know that she's watching out for you now. She probably adores her big brother."

"But this time I'll be able to help you if you need it," Ruben told her. "And you won't have to worry about taking care of me so much because I'm older, and we've got Dad and the rest of the family."

"Love, I have never worried about taking care of you. You have always been a good boy and you were a lovely baby." Selena said as she tipped her son's chin until he was looking in her eyes. "I never want you to think what happened to Krestina was your fault, alright? She was sick and she wasn't strong enough to live. It wouldn't have mattered if you were older or if we were living here with your Dad."

"I know it wasn't my fault... but I still wish I could've helped. I'm always more worried about you than anyone or anything else." Again, he let on that despite his age, his worries and thoughts were much more complex than he let on to anyone else. "... When I have a family, I'm gonna be to them what you are to me."

"And what am I to you, Ruben?" Selena asked her son, wondering just what he was talking about as her fingers continued to gently run through his thick fur.

"You held up everything around me so I didn't have to go without or be afraid, but you made sure that I learned just how to take care of myself and be able to do the same thing for other people... I want that for my family. I want them to know that even if they fail or they're weak, they can always lean on me until they can stand alone again. Just like you." He curled closer against her side, and it was just about then that Kreston, who had heard it all, stepped in and sat down beside his love to press a light kiss to her cheek.

"You don't have to think about having a family for a long time, Ruben, but when you do you'll make us very proud." Selena said as she pressed a kiss to her son's brow and glancing towards her mate with a smile on her lips.

She kissed him gently, enjoying the moment with her little family. Her boys were all she could have ever wanted and more. The fact that she was getting a second chance to be a mother still brought her to her knees from time to time. She was getting use to it though.

"How about you go and help your grandfather with the fish?" Selena asked Ruben. "And bring home what he'll give you and I'll cook it up for dinner."

Ruben gladly hurried off to do as his mother asked, and Kreston smiled fondly as he watched the boy go. "He's going to grow up before we know it, love... I feel old just thinking about it." He wrapped an arm around her waist and moved a little closer to rest his head against her shoulder.

"He's a good lad. He'll make us very proud." Selena said with a smile as she rested her head against Kreston's, sighing as his large hand was placed firmly against her belly. "And he'll take good care of his entire family. We did a good job."

"Best of all, when he's a little older and this little one's running us ragged, he can babysit," Kreston chuckled warmly. "But with how you've been lately, it seems to be running you ragged already. I don't know whether I should laugh or be worried half the time."

"Laugh for the both of us, love. Never worry about me." Selena said as she kissed her mate, giving him a sincere smile. "I've made peace with losing our daughter and if the same fate is in store for this little one, then we'll just have to try again and again and again until we get what we want."

"I made peace too... doesn't help the worry, though." Kreston carefully drew her into his lap, just like he'd done so many times after they'd fallen in love. "It's hard not to worry about you, you know."

"You're a worrier, Kres. You worry about everything." Selena teased, laughing at the look on his face as she snuggled against his chest. "You worry about the weather. You worry about the roads. You worry about what you'll have for dinner."

"I don't worry about dinner, because I can make it myself if you don't want to," Kreston told her as if rather offended, but he was only playing. "You're awfully mean to the man who's going to let you sleep and take care of it himself when the baby wakes up at midnight and wants attention."

"Are you going to be the one to feed it? Are you going to change diapers?" She asked him, giggling softly at the look on his face. "You sleep like a rock, Kreston. I will have to see it to believe it. You and Ruben will be slumbering away while I take care of the baby."

"I'll prove it, just you wait." Kreston grinned before he laid down before the hearth with her back pressed to his chest, his arm wrapped around her as he shifted slightly to get comfortable. "I love this life..." He murmured. "I didn't think it was possible to be this happy and content."

Selena sighed softly as he settled them in front of the fire, smiling as he talked about how happy he was. "I think I know a way to make it better."

She tilted her head back, her hand pulling his head down for a gentle and passionate kiss. "Ruben should be gone for a while..."

Kreston couldn't help smiling as he kissed her, his hand slipping down to her thigh. "Well... if you insist." He'd missed stealing her away to their bed, having not wanted to over-exhaust her during her pregnancy. His other arm slipped beneath her to support her as his hand drew up the hem of her dress to find her bare skin. He was used to her wearing breeches and tunics, but he had to admit she looked just as wonderful in her pregnancy dresses too.

"If I had known all if would take to get your hands on my thighs, I would have started wearing these dresses sooner." Selena teased, kissing him gently as his hands gently spread across her skin.

"It hardly matters what you wear," he smirked. "I'll get to your skin eventually." He easily pulled away her undergarment, not bothering to get rid of her dress, just in case of any interruption. "You're too good to me," he murmured against her ear as he pressed closer.

"I'm too good for you too." She teased him, whimpering as he pulled her undergarments away, pressing against her until she could feel his hard shaft impatiently waiting to be freed. "Mount me, Kres. I need you badly."
