Pure Moonlight (closed)

Telma was snapped back to the present as Ruben murmured her name against her ear. Slowly, she released her grip on his shoulder, her amber eyes turning towards his as he rested against her body. They were together forever now, bonded in a way that couldn't be torn apart.

"Did I hurt you?" She asked him softly. "I got a little carried away."

"I'm fine, love," Ruben Saige breathlessly. "Better than fine..." He smiled up at her and caressed her cheek lightly. "I feel fantastic."

Telma gave him a sweet smile as he told her that he was alright. She leaned down, wrapping her arms around his chest and holding him tight. She sighed softly, nuzzling against her mate as she let the moment truly sink in.

"You're mine, Ru. Forever." She murmured against his ear before her lips sought to capture his in a sweet and passionate kiss.

"Forever," he whispered in return before indulging her in that wonderfully passionate kiss. He felt an immense sense of fulfillment, another piece of his dreams in place. With a content sigh, he relaxed back against the soft blanket and let his fingers trail absently through Telma's fur about her neck and down her back.

Telma soon relaxed against Ruben's side, her head resting against his shoulder as his strong hands stroked through her reddish fur. She was content and happy, a smile on her lips as she listened to the night around them. Small animals were scurrying in the forest. Insects were singing in the dark. It was peaceful and beautiful in his garden and she realized that she could be very happy there with him.

"We need to tell your family." She murmured softly. "I know it'll be hard, but I can't be away from you any longer. I feel like I'll truly lose my mind."

"Tomorrow morning... We'll go. Ma will be expecting me after sunrise. Then we can go back to your family. I know they already know... But it'll be good to properly face them and have a talk with your parents like I know they want to. And I'm fairly certain my Da will want to talk to you."

"What could your Da possibly want to talk to me about?" Telma asked Ruben as he talked about a plan for the morning. "You don't think he's going to try and convince me that this is wrong, do you? I''m afraid enough of your Ma's reaction."

"No... He's probably going to give you a similar talk to the one I'm expecting from Ghell. Da's always been protective of me, but I'm sure all he wants is s little honesty and to be sure we're being responsible and careful. I think his biggest fear for Luna and I is that we'll fall too hard, too fast, and get hurt. He doesn't know that we've been together for so long already."

"I guess I should prepare myself then." Telma said softly, not looking forward to being questioned by Kreston about her relationship with his son. "And Da has promised that he will give us both a chance. He thinks he'll lose me by letting me have a mate, but I promised that I would still be around just as much as I always was."

"Of course you will. I don't expect you to give up time with them, and I'm not going to give up time with my family either. Odds are, our families will be spending a little more time all together, more than they already do. And that's perfect for me. I'm used to a big family in Inverness "

"You seem at peace with all of this. I guess if you're this calm then there's nothing I should be afraid of." Telma said with a smile as she snuggled up close to her mate and let out a content sigh.

"I'm always calm, even if I'm terrified," he told her quietly and kissed her once more.

The next morning was the typical grey Scottish day with a lovely mist enshrouding the village and making the trees look like looming, peaceful giants leaning in over the people. Ruben was awake early as always and he and Telma were on their way to Selena and Kreston's home after breakfast. Upon their arrival, they found Luna outside in a very heated argument with a burly tan wolf who spoke with a heavy Swedish accent. He seemed to be trying to charm his way out of trouble with a rugged smirk and gentle hands on Luna's arms to welcome her closer. But she wasn't having it. When she outright slapped him, Kreston was just coming outside and spotted the tan wolf.

Ruben paused with Telma as Kreston snarled at the Swede to back off and Luna stormed inside in tears. Whatever the conversation had been about, it had deeply wounded Luna's calm and collected heart and self. The Swede took off and Kreston finally saw Telma and Ruben. "Hi, kids," he said with a weary smile.

Telma had never seen Luna act violently towards anyone so the slap at the end of the argument took her by surprise. When the white wolf ran back into the house in tears, she wondered if this was the best time to do this. The family had other issues going on and she and Ruben were about to make things a million times worse.

"Hi Kreston." Telma said softly, so scared of what was going to happen in the next few moments. "Ruben and I came to talk to you and Selena about something."

"Oh, I know what you're here for," Kreston smiled gently and drew her into a gentle embrace. "Welcome to the family, darling." He looked to the door as Selena appeared to find out what happened, and he sighed. "I'm sorry that had to happen when you were coming to talk to us, but I think we'll leave Luna be and have a talk out here, hm?" He turned to go to Selena and he took her by the shoulders to halt her. "It was the sailor, love," he murmured, knowing she'd remember Luna's story about the Swedish sailor made thief who wanted her heart.

"I'll skin his hide if he makes her cry again." Selena said in a vicious voice, so incredibly protective of her children.

She glanced towards Ruben and Telma as they stood there, waiting to talk to them. She let out a soft sigh and let Kreston usher her to their outdoor seating area. Taking a seat at one of the comfortable benches, she looked between her son and the woman that he had mated with.

"We've know for a while." Selena said softly as Telma folded her ears back in embarrassment. "Does your family know, Telma?"

"Yes, ma'am." She said softly.

"It wasn't hard for Ghell to guess," Ruben murmured, though he was unshakable by any embarrassment in that moment, upholding a calm exterior for Telma's sake.

"I can't say I'm surprised he did, or that you two ended up together," Kreston said with a soft smile.

"I wish that you had come to us sooner." Selena said softly as she watched her son stay strong at the side of his mate. "Something like this is too precious to be hidden."

She went quiet for a long moment as she glanced over at Kreston. "Ruben, I would like to have a private conversation with you."

"And I think we'll have a chat too, Telma," Kreston nodded though he seemed fairly at ease. He took Telma off to the side so they could speak.

Ruben met his mother's eyes and awaited her words silently.

Selena waited until Kreston had pulled Telma off to the side before she looked at her son and let out a long sigh. She knew that this moment would come sooner or later and she was happy that it was with Telma, but she wasn't ready to lose the little boy that she had loved so much.

"Remember when I made you promise that you would tell me when you fell in love?" Selena asked him, wondering if he remembered that conversation they had when he was younger. "You didn't even want to think about girls back then. How will you two live, Ruben? Do you have enough money to support her and any children that might come along?"

"I remember... But I couldn't tell you, because I knew you'd tell Ghell. I was afraid if we told you, we'd be pulled apart." When she asked him how they'd make due on their own, he answered her with absolute confidence, "We talked about all of this before we ever became mates. I've worked my way up for her, so she can do whatever she likes and I'll be able to provide. She wants to continue working for now, and she'll be able to pick up work if things ever get tough. I've got more than enough saved for emergencies, and I know I could support myself and three other people without having to be too frugal."

"Ruben, this could have all been talked about, love. We wouldn't have pulled you apart." Selena told him as he explained how they were going to support themselves.

"You know, I look at you and still see my little boy. It's hard to think that you're off, with a mate of your own now, making your own way in the world." She told him softly. "You might not see it now, but give it time. When you hold your cubs for the first time, you'll understand what I'm saying."

"So you're not angry?" He offered a small smile. He hadn't smiled often since becoming independent. Not because he wasn't happy, but because he was simply and naturally very serious. He could make out-of-line teenagers and workmen wilt under his intense gaze and it served him well, but his demeanor was usually calm and collected.

"Angry?" Selena asked softly. "No. I'm disappointed that you waited so long to tell us but I'm not angry at either of you."

She stood and moved to the empty spot beside her son, taking his hand in her own and squeezing it tightly. "When you know that you've found your mate no one can tell you otherwise. As long as you feel that you are responsible enough to care for both of you, you have my blessing."

She leaned over and kissed her son's cheek. "Why couldn't you have stayed little, Ruben? I miss the little boy that would snuggle with me all night long."

"No one can stay little, Ma. But I suspect it won't be long before there's a new little one around. Telma and I know we want a family for sure, and I'm hoping she can come to live with me before long." He kissed his mother's cheek and his smile grew softer. "I've always wanted a family of my own. I think growing up with just the two of us made me want to give you back your big family, and for me to have my own."
