Question for real life submissive.

I struggle to think of another drummer who even comes close. Lars Ulrich might, but he's too big a pussy.

I don't mean to blaspheme, but what about the drummer from Disturbed? Seriously, I want to know your opinion. I'm not all that knowledgeable on the subject, just like to play along on Rock Band.

I'd have more respect for Mike Wengren if he didn't cite Tommy Lee as one of his biggest influences, but at the same time I'd have less if he didn't cite Vinnie Paul as the same. I'm really not a big Disturbed fan, I have Ten Thousand Fists and I've been forcibly exposed to Down With The Sickness for the same reason as you - my verdict is decent, verging on good, but to mention his name in the same discussion as Peart is like walking into Israel wearing a shirt reading "Hitler Was Right".

While I think this duet is amazing and I love it, I would place these guys more in the pussy category.

Urgh, Genesis. My best mate and I appear to be in opposing camps as far as prog rock goes - he's a Genesis fan, I'm a Rushaholic, our tastes are incompatible. For posterity, I didn't say Ulrich wasn't talented because he is, it's just the fact that he and Dave Mustaine kept their feud up for so long (and without so much as a decent fistfight) makes them both utter pussies. It's the sort of thing that makes me ashamed to be a Metallica fan.

Um...I don't know about the drummer, but I do know that the lead singer David is smokin'. :D

Aaaaaaand, for the record, I rank Peart as history's greatest drummer ahead of Buddy Rich by a nose and ahead of Keith Moon by a line of coke. Others that feature in the conversation include whoever did the drums for Judas Priest's Painkiller, the aforementioned Mr. Ulrich and Nicko McBrain, while my favourite contemporary one is Dom Howard.

Note that, in case it isn't obvious, I dream of being a drummer. The problem is I'm good with my hands, but when I try to involve the bass, it all falls apart because I can't separate foot and hand movement. Is rather a handicap.

I see Peart at the top of the list, as well as Rich and McBrain. I am happy.

Saw Maiden a time or two as well. Steve, Adrian, Nicko, and Bruce were all entertaining as hell on stage. At one point in the Seventh Son tour date, Bruce leapt to the side to avoid a beachball tossed at him and managed to knock an iceberg prop loose from its' mooring. So he picks the blasted thing up, miming as if it were real, and ran around the stage menacing people with it while Steve laughed his arse off. Good times.

There's a local morning radio show guy that is friends with a cat that played with both Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. That guy tells the BEST stories. If I remember his name, I'll post it. Seriously incredible to hear this guy reminisce about these incredible musicians.

I am a born percussionist, and will tap, ring, beat, and drum on anything. I took up the drums in primary school, but my wrists just would not take it. I wound up blowing the trumpet. I loved it, but do wish I could've just drummed.

I call people "hon" because I'm from Baltimore. Not so much lately, but it's definitely still in there.

Loved the etymology lesson for berk - my new favorite word!

Hope nobody minds if I whip out my join date...that's right, 8+ years. Hell, I've been a mod since 2003.

And for the record, Hershey is in WAY southern PA. They get the same weather we do, and I assure you 75% of the year is just fine.

I see that a lot happened when I went to work on this post. Etoile, you have on the past posted replies to my threads and have never been disrespectful in any way.
I came here to find someone to answer a question that I had from someone who lives the life all the time and not just a weekend warrior type.
I wanted to find someone who had expierenced in such a life and not just someone who started out recently.
I chose to not to post the question on the board as I feel I did not and do no want to the whole web to respond.
I have posted very little in the past years as I am a semi-private person and I think it is my right to do so and and if I do not want to ask a question to the whole board that is my right. I asked a specific question, for someone who is real and not a poser, that lives the life to email me and then we go from there.

My first replies to this was including:
"Just cos we post about and discuss our experiences on an internet discussion forum doesn't mean we don't do it in real life honey.

Notice the word honey, sarcastic as hell in the context of that sentence. She was not trying to be pleasant at all, she was condescending and not being the sweet southern belle type.

"You get what I'm saying, yes?"
If you do not want to answer a question that I have, then read my thread and move on. No reason whatsoever to speak to me in that manner.

"With such a dismissing and judgmental attitude, good luck finding anyone to overlook your posts and answer."
The post was entitled real life meaning REAL life not cyber submissive, see above response.

"You need to take a step back away from your defensiveness and calm down."
I asked a direct simple question request and then came the above.

"You must have a REALLY low opinion of everyone here."
As I stated before, there are posers and fakes on this board and I do not wish to have my question by one of them.

"When you come across as judgmental, expect the same treatment. If you come across as respectful, you'll get the same. The Golden Rule is "Treat others as you would be treated". You came here with the implied message that YOUR Kink was "holier" or "better" than someone else's kink. Do you not see how disrespectful and mean spirited that sounds? "What I do is better than what you do, so don't bother talking to me unless you're as good as me." I mean, come on now, lady, no wonder people are up in arms. The people who live their relationships over the internet...their feelings are no less real than yours. Hell, my husband travels all over the USA for business. When he's gone, does that make ME less submissive because we have to communicate online or over the phone?! If you're going to marginalize that badly, where does it end?"

No you live with your partner and have met and played in real life, there are a lot of people that just play in cyberspace and never do this in real life and thus they are game players and fakes.

"You berk. Have you stopped to consider the reason people are getting narked at you is because of your attitude? All you needed to do was say "Please PM me because I'm not comfortable discussing this on the boards" or words to that effect, without the attitude, and you'd get what you were after, making the insults completely unnecessary."
I started a thread with a specific question/request and was to the point right away with no fluff. Like I stated above, you can read and move on if it does not suit you to answer the request or you do not meet the requirements.

Then after that thread was hi-jacked.

Yes, I do try to be respectful. Is it safe to assume, though, that the rest of your post was not addressed to me? I only made comments on the hijack bits, not your previous postings. I didn't say any of the other things that you quoted in your post, so I assume that part was not meant for me?

Time flies like a ....

Fruit flies like a banana.

(I forget the middle of that joke!)

Awww man now that's gonna drive me nuts till I go look it up... thanks! LOL

ETA... I found two versions.

1. Time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana.
2. Time flies like a bullet. Fruit flies like a banana.

(whew I feel better now. ~grins~)

I see .... lots of words..... thread was hi-jacked.

I lurk on these boards ....a lot. The ladies and gentlemen that replied to you have always had decent posts. You did come off very hoity - toity and snobby. They were trying to be nice honey. And that by the way is how it would have looked has she been 'sarcastic as hell' towards you. You were rude.

You are correct! I should of placed that in my reply to all others.
for you::rose::rose::rose::rose::rose::rose:

Since (as noted by the OP) it is possible to weed out who one considers to be "real" or not "real", and I didn't get a PM requesting advice, I presumed I was lumped into the second category and thus skated right on by... until the whole Rush conversation... some things simply cannot be ignored. ;)

*bangs head against the wall*

Before you decide to psychoanalyse my posting, go read around the rest of the forum, because then you'll realise that I WAS NOT BEING SARCASTIC OR CONDESCENDING. I was trying to point out to you that your post was worded in such a way that people may have taken offense to it. Had they taken offense to it, they probably would have ripped you a new one, and I was trying to point out the potential of that happening.

I call EVERYONE honey and the way you worded your post came across as you believed that people talking about it on the internet meant they did not practice the lifestyle in their real life, just on the internet.

Trust me, if I was being sarcastic, it would have hit you in the face like a cold haddock to the chops.

Plus its hard to be a sweet southern belle when you're a midlander from Britain ;)

"You get what I'm saying, yes?"

What manner? Please inform me as to what manner I was speaking in, because all I was doing was ensuring I had made my point in the right way, as I'm bad at vocalising what I mean effectively.

Other people in this thread have taken quite a more harsh stance with you; I've been quite calm and quite diplomatic about it, but yet you're pretty much making out that I've told you to shut the fuck up.

Granted, I have no idea what your question is nor shall I attempt to answer it, because I am not 24/7 with my Sir because of our other life constraints, not to mention I'm still new to the lifestyle but if you want people to reply, taking an attitude with those who help you or try to help you with other things will do you no favours.

Not to mention, its a public forum, so you can't exactly prevent a thread from being hijacked. It's the cafe, where we have a bit of a giggle.

I do hope you do get the answer you need, as learning is what we all do, no matter our experience, but honestly, don't be so defensive. We're not out to heckle you or put you down, we were just trying to point out a hiccup.

Don't bang your head... you will make it hurt.

Hi honey. :rose:

Kerion could help her out with what a cold fish feels like..... ;)

Maybe you should have.

Heh, there would need to be some form of a brain in there for it to hurt ;)

And hey yourself :rose:

Cold fish is icky btw, my parents fish and I've helped them put stuff in the catch nets. It's not nice.

If I weren't so happy about having "Theirs" as my user title, I'd change it to "Weekend Warrior." Ooh, maybe a new thread is in order.

All this defensiveness. You've been attacked only slightly, and for a very good reason.

I hate to oversimplify, so feel free to yell at me too, but symbolicflame, what really puts people off, I believe, is your insistence on using the word "real" to refer specifically to people who are acting in what we call "meat" space around my house. Meat and cyber are different realities, but they are both quite "real."

You offend by insisting that something that goes on in cyber or other worlds is not "real." If you continue to hold on to that particular definition, you will continue to offend people who may not want to or be able to perform these acts in the actual flesh. It's really very simple, and you can stop offending any time you like.

But it won't happen until you give up attitudes like this:

there are a lot of people that just play in cyberspace and never do this in real life and thus they are game players and fakes.

That's offensive. And extremely wrong. I am lucky enough to get to play in "meat" space, and it is my preference to do so. That makes me no more "real" than anyone else.

If you've been on the board for so long, how is it that you haven't figured out that your attitude is going to be offensive?
