So it was mid-40s this morning (7-ish, your more civilized part of the world, I think) and it will be in the 80's (almost 29) this afternoon. Autumn in the PNW.

Are you kidding? We've just left triple digits behind. It was only 99° yesterday afternoon. A steady 80-85° would be perfect.

Try with your phone. I can only see a faint hue in the sky but when I take a photo on my phone, the colours come through really well.

I gave up taking pics of the night sky when my hopefully epic moon captures ended up being of a fuzzy white dot.
I know there's probably some trick to it though to get good ones

My photos of the moon are rubbish but my phone seems to pick up the aurora really well. Worth a shot, even out of the window.
