Rating sweeps - the good and the bad

So perhaps I didn't explain myself properly. I KNOW that people will will be triggered by the content, however I ATTEMPT TO WARN THEM. I put example, trigger warnings that say things like, "This story features the violent rape of several women by tentacle monsters" or "This is a cruel story of forced feminization" or I put in the description "Forced Gay Incest" or "Virgin bride cheats" I genuinely do not want my readers to feel bad. But the funny thing is, they read them anyway, and then complain about the very content I made every effort to warn them of. It seems strange to me. Maybe some readers are just randomly click stories or skipping the Authors Notes I start off with, I don't know.

But no I'm not actually TRYING to trigger them, my content is just disturbing to a sane person :)

Okay, gotcha, thanks for explaining. Some people aren't happy unless they are pissed off.

The ultimate disclaimer should be category. All these years and its still a head scratcher that people read in categories they know ill piss them off, then take it out on the author, like its their fault.

Lits version of self flagellation
Yeah. In their defense each category kind of has sub categories, so Forced fem is a sub-genre in the Trans section so maybe they happen upon it unknowingly. Of course this isn't much defense since they should be well aware that thwse sub categories existent after like two days on Lit and aren't going anywhere and just move on when they realize it isn't the story for them, but we can't expect internet denizens to be reasonable I guess.

I've seen you discuss this issue relating to the Loving Wives section, I should just throw my next forced fem story in there watch the chaos that ensues. "Loving Wife Transitions Husband by Force" will be the description and people will bitch that the story features a wife transitioning her husband.

The only place Femdom is accepted is fetish because the men there are actual men and can admit what they're into.
Femdom is part of BDSM(Doninatrix duh) but now you can't put that there because the entire category has turned into "Bitch gets hers" and anything different is attacked.

I've not had a problem with femdom in BDSM - my most recent story was pure femdom so I put it in BDSM and it's scored a solid 4.75, with a few appreciative comments.

The previous story with the same characters was in Fetish and did less well, probably because Fetish readers have very defined ideas about what they like, and I put in too many kinks.

So maybe they noticed that they had given you a 5 and meant a 1? Sounds far-fetched, but so does the keen fan theory.

Em
"Gave this a 5 but then realised the heroine had the same first name as my my ex. I hate that name, nobody should ever use it in stories. 1*"

(I exaggerate, but not very much.)

You're an exception. Do you have a base there already? Either that or the trolls took the day off. Its no where near as welcome as it was back when I started here. Ask Ogg, he'll tell you all about how well femdom generally does here.

I have two Femdom stories, Strapped-down & Strap-on and The Bitch That Switched, in BDSM, both have done at least OK: 4.51 and 4.62 respectively at the time of writing. The first is girl on girl Femdom, the second is girl on boy.

No no no, this is wrong. The Nonconsent category exists only to give people who 'don't like rape' somewhere reliable to drop their 1-votes.

Same for almost all the others...

  1. Happy that a sweep has dropped troll ratings and boosted my overall score for a story
  2. Sad that the same story now has a measly 9 votes and no more red H
Give it a few months, as your catalog builds you'll be waiting anxiously for that End of Contest sweep even if you didn't enter the contest. Just for fun (Excel is one of my favorite computer games) I track my story stats and keep track of votes gained and votes "swept" After a year the numbers are surprising. And knowing when sweeps come you'll also soothe your anxieties.

I have a question on the whole 'sweep' thing... When and how often do the 'sweeps' for one-bombs occur?

The site doesn't really like to have it analyzed (security through obscurity), but you can see when it happens if you track your stats. I track weekly, and I can see if a sweep happened on one of my stories because the vote count goes down.

Sweeps can occur at any time but tend to happen most often when contests are running. The day the winners are announced is almost guaranteed. Asides from that, if you think you are being one-bombed, you may ask for a personal sweep by hitting the Report button on the story in question. As noted, discussing the methodology used is discouraged.

Note that it’s not just 1s which get removed. It’s also possible - and hardly uncommon - to lose 5s, or any other vote which the system deems dubious.

I've lost way more 4/5 votes than 1 votes in sweeps.
