Reading Books For Pleasure

I kept wondering how Amish people could be considered non violent and incapable of murder when they kill and eat animals every day.

I figured out who did it pretty early.

I don't like nightmares.

Imago by by Octavia E. Butler wasn't quite as good for me as the first two in the trilogy. Still it was enjoyable.

I'm reading Janet evanovich's plum spooky. To be honest I'm getting a bit nonchalant about the formula for the in between novels. The formula is the same over and over- diesel shows up, diesel has dinner with Stephanie's family, diesel leaves.

Yes, that's true but it's still fun for me. There is a lot of humor in the books. I love visiting with the characters again.

You are right about that..they are the same but they give me fits of giggles nontheless..LOL

I finished Bone Cold by Erica Spindler earlier this week..

Although I'm getting a bit fed up on the formula, I do agree - they are funny. Lula and her cold medication...very funny.:D

I'm also reading The Dark Garden on my e-reader.

Has to be my favourite series at the moment - and Rehv's book comes out in about 5 weeks *bounces*

I'm reading another melodramatic chick lit book that an online reading group has voted for. She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. These things give me nightmares.

Why do people love them? Is it because thier families weren't dysfunctional and so they are fascinated with train wreck lives? Does it make them feel better about themselves if some fiction person is more fucked up?

For me it too close to my damn history that I'd like to be free of. KWIM?

:rose:

Thank GOD I finished that book and it sort of had a happy ending, I guess. I should have known it was an Oprah pick.

I'm really not a big fan of chick lit :( Glad you are finished with it now.

I've just finished reading: The Library at Night by Alberto Manguel. For me, it was one of the most inspirational and eye opening (on a personal level) books I've ever read *smiles* I've jsut started Manguel's A History of Reading. And I'm still reading The Dark Garden...only a few more chapters to go ;)

Me too. I'm so glad to be done. Now I'm reading Rhett Butler's People, which again is not a book I'd pick on my own. I may have to rethink being in some of these reading clubs.

The Library at Night by Alberto Manguel is that fiction or non?

Reading the best book by Erica Spindler right now called Break Neck..

Synopsis of it:

For two of the toughest women at the Rockford PD, life is looking good. Detective MC RIggio has met a man worthy of dragging to “Pasta night” at Mama’s house. Her veteran partner and closest friend, Kitt Lundgren has begun to repair the marriage she thought she had lost.

But what seems to be a random act of violence will rip their bright futures at the seams.

A remorseless killer. A string of innocent, clean-cut victims. Detectives M.C. Riggio and Kitt Lundgren must race against a cold-blooded predator who moves at breakneck speed in this heart-pounding thriller. The hunt leads MC and Kitt deep into the cyberuniverse, where no one is who they seem and you never know who's watching.

As the death toll rises and secrets are revealed, each woman must struggle to balance their dual roles, to learn to trust, and to walk the fine line between upholding the law—and taking it into their own hands

My daughter sucked me in to the Sookie Stackhouse series I was resisting dammit oh well It's a fun series. Re-reading Mary Stewart's Arthurian Saga and Guy Gavriel Kay's The Fionavar Tapestry, for some reason it just makes me cry every time at the end. The two brothers are so sad and show such love.

I love the Sookie Stackhouse books and Mary Stewart's Arthurian Saga! The other one I don't know. I may have to check them out.

I recently finished Rhett Butler's People. It wasn't my pick, it was a book club pick. I didn't particularly care for Gone With the Wind. I saw it when I was very young and four hours was too long. Plus I disliked all the major characters which KILLS my enjoyment of a movie or book.

It took a while to get into but Rhett Butler's People showed a more likable group of characters. It almost made me not hate Scarlett.

Oh I love the Sookie Stackhouse books, they are just more mental crack and I don't need to feed my addiction to fun, It's already obese. The Fionavar Tapestry is one of those series you read and don't forget.

I just finished Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux. It was chosen by poll by an online book group. If I'm not mistaken they also chose that book last month by Jodi Picoult that gave me nightmares.

Well I went into the book hoping it was more about time travel and ladies changing their lives for the better than it was about romance. Nope.

Eh.

Well, anyway, I think that a lot of us, if we could keep our current knowledge would change things we'd done and therefore change our lives. I wanted to see that theme explored a lot more than it was.

I think I should probably not continue reading with that group's BOM.

:rose:

I picked up Return to Summerhouse at my local library. Haven't read it yet. After what you said about Summerhouse, I might not. lol

I'm reading Creation in Death by JD Robb, there are just times when I need doses of Eve Dallas.

And King of the Unblessed by Michelle Pillow - which I'm absolutely loving!

Sounds good! Many people probably love the Summerhouse books.

A few days ago, I finished reading "The End Of Mr. Y", and I must say that it I don't think it was that good a read. It's was a bit strange and didn't manage to hold my attention very well, and it took me quite a while to get through it.

I then started "The Sword of Truth", and so far it have caught my fancy, and it's like the first 80 pages I've read in it, have been way more interesting than "The End Of Mr. Y" And from what I've seen, there are 10 books in the serie, so there's going to be a lot of reading to do!
