Just Me

Soemone suggested I check out this forum. Thru my posting, I'm surprised that I might have a hankering for poetry. Never written anything useful. Ive been around for about 5 weeks and am new to bulletin boards. Started off in APR (PG)and gravitated to GB and am now checking this out. I Look forward to participating. :)

What do you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

Lit is mainly a learning experience for me. Until a year or so ago I could count the number of 20th and 21st century poems I had read on my fingers ! I have however, always been a voracious reader of prose. Retirement has proved to be a major opportunity.

Critique can be as vigorous as you like . Constructive criticsm is helpful and sought but as I think that anything published is essentially 'public property', people can be as unfair or fair as they like. I think that criticism whether good or bad can reflect just as much on the critic as the work they are commenting upon.

What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

Limited, particularly by lack of technical knowledge. I try to comment on poems, as much privately as publically, especially to encourage newcomers as I am only a step or so before them

How would you describe your writing?

Experimental, muddled, largely divided into rather serious sometimes dark observational pieces of peoples behavior, and fun stuff, just messing about playing with words.

I have had a number of books published which would be of no interest to poetry readers but I have only had one poem published and that was Daisy - in The "Farmers Weekly" ! Not the acme of poetry publications but you can have no idea how pleased I was with their cheque for $50 (US$43) :)

Foolish people with more time than sense to read my poetry. :D and hopefully get some valuable criticism which I have already had.

...and I'm here just to enjoy other people's creations and chip in with my two penneth at times.

I have been pleasantly surprised, there are some real gems hidden away on this site and the best is better than a lot of stuff I've seen in print.

I feel a little evangelistic about poetry getting out of the rarefied ghetto and becoming a popular artform.

Maybe that's a little idealistic for someone my age.

Paris, Oh Fuck!, Naked. Mainly because they are recent poems and based on real experience.

Two stories of mine that seem to get slated, mainly because of the lack of sexal content I think but I think the writing is good, Pygmalion and The Librarian.

I am deathly new on Lit, so forgive me if I flub in any way! Oh, and an explanation, I have insisted that my husband share his account. You see, we're really bad with passwords and probably wouldn't be able to juggle two. So yeah, I'm Kate!

What do you hope to get out of your time at Lit?
Just another forum to put up my poetry in. I have gone through college and university, have a master's degree in English -- I can take criticism. Level the cannons, critics! I've got guts of schpiel!

What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at Literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?
Objective, though not always constructive, criticism is my game. I'm a teacher, and because of this I have to be fair, but not influence too directly my students' way of writing. I'm a firm believer in the necessity of every poet and author to find their own instinctive voice. If taking from different existing traditions and molding one's own path is the way, so be it, but it is not my realm to dictate to anyone what is a "better way of doing it." I also enjoy putting myself out into the open with a great big target for less conservative jibes than Simon Cowell. Call me a glutton for punishment.

How would you describe your writing?
Amateur. I have never sold my work, I have never solicited my work, and I never intend to make a profit off of it. They're competent musings, but not watertight masterpieces. I am overly influenced by a particular penner, but I don't think that I simply parrot this idol of mine. I like to believe people can get a vague notion of my favorite poet, without being able to figure the answer out exactly.

What is your favorite contribution to Lit?
You can see me and my hubby's signature below for links. Of them, I probably find "Above the Rain" most agreeable. My husband has insisted that I never go back and edit it. It was the only thing I wrote down during a very, very trying period of our life together, and he recognized, as I do now, that it serves as a window. The only window we have to that Hell. And I'm going to keep that viewing-portal open.

New to this forum

I,m Joey from Joeys-Game, this is my first post to this forum.Usually just play in r'p.
I used to write poetry as a kid, recently picked it up again.
I joined lit in Feb and have met some very interesting people.
I submitted two poems today, so i guess i'll see what happens..
You all have some great stuff out there , hope i can add some of my perspective .As for level of critique..blast away!

Here's my hall pass

Consider me checked in. Not much to say other than I have no new work out so no url from me! (Not that I'm not proud of it, just...it's old.)

I am planning on writing some new stuff for you all though, I have been away far too long!

Hi,
I'm Nelson, and I'm new.

First Poem!!!

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

I'm here to explore my own unique sense of eroticism, and I feel that there's no better place. I also would like to make friends amongst those in the Lit community :D

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I hope to put some decent work out there, and I hope that my interaction with other contributors to be positive and empowering.

*How would you describe your writing?

I'm a hack, first of all. I've haven't formally studied writing; it's just something I want to take on as an additional creative outlet, particularly for the exploration of sexuality. There will be typos, I'm sure, and fine examples of lousy grammar, but bare with me. I'll get better ;)

Please, correspond with me- ask me questions and give me friendly advice.

If you have a Phd in English literature and you think you might be an asshole, then just lay low. I'm not doing whatever it is on purpose.

I'm very excited about the oppertunity to talk to the great people here at Lit!
Until then...

I am new - but my poetry is wheat has driven me here

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

My poetry is a new phenomenon in my life. Most of it just writes itself. Alot of it is just kitch , mediocre even, yet there is something - heck if I can figure it out

I need to fight mediocrity, get past it. I fully understand the value of critique and invite ruthless critique of anything I post...

I have no preconceptions

romantic poet here

Hi I love rhyming poetry I have been writing since High school and I'm 55 now I write all kinds from political to spiritual to romance to nature. Ihave self published several books. I'm retired because of health reasons so I go about reading at local open mic venues. I host an open mic on wed. in the town in which I live. I just love writing and reading my poetry. am also willing to share my poetry with those serious about rhyme. I don't knock the style of any poet and I encourage them to continue doing what they do. you can find some of my poems under the thread Romantic poems by ewopper and friends on the general board also under the thread raunch erotica on the general board if you want to know more about me pm's are encouraged lol :rose:

Okay let's see where the rabbit hole goes.

Greetings A/all.

I came across the site a week or so ago. I have submitted four poems so far and have one story waiting in submission. That being said it is time for me to give my introduction.

I'm MuseShadow and I am a writing junkie. I have been writing for as long as I have been reading, some 22 years now. I moved to Southern California from the UK back in 98 so if you see some bizzare spelling you know why.

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

Honest, constructive feedback. Symbolic and emotional interpretation or reaction. I'm considering this the toe in the water to see how good my writing is and whether or not I can make a career at it.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

Largely in the author role providing the community with material to chew over like a pit-bull puppy left alone with the new furniture. If I can stimulate anyone mentally or prove what to do or not to do my efforts are worth it.

*How would you describe your writing?

Layered, sometimes overly descriptive, recovering from precociousness.

*List of some of your favorite poems/stories you have at Lit, in case anyone wants to get a taste of your work

Self Consuming Fire was the first work I had written in over four years, that’s a good starting point.

Thanks to those who read all of the written works here, mine and others. Your feedback is the catalyst for our efforts.

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

[As far as critiques: Honesty, blunt simple honesty. I can be pretty cool about anything you have to say.]

Meet fellow poets, mostly. I'm an information digger, I'm always worrying if I use a word or phrase correctly, sometimes I desperately want words to rhyme and they don't. So, I ask a bunch of seemingly inane questions, but I'm just trying to make all the pieces fit.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I feel out of place everywhere I go, I know I won't 'really' fit in, but I'll try to be supportive.

*How would you describe your writing?

Accessible, entertaining, but failing in certain spots, mainly rhythmic.

*URL to your work at lit, personal website etc.

My little bin of poems:
http://english.literotica.com:81/stories/memberpage.php?uid=545874&page=submissions

I want to say that erotic writing is just a side hobby to me. I'd rather be attempting my novel. I'll be lucky if I can upload one poem a month. But I've been lurking a bit and this group makes me happy when I check in on it. Thanks all!

i roam the night sky in silhouetted
shadows amidst dreams of darkness
and light, what spirits i have touched,
i have courted gentle winds and fiery
elementals, i have caressed earthly
tinker bells and relished in the
healing watery flowing river children,
i have walked with angel and demon
at my shoulder, i have held tears,
i have tasted nakedness and tender
places, the heat of breath and the
smell of hunger, i have drunk,
i have satiated, i have soared,
i have hunted and i have slept,

to make love with a lover,
to make love to a lover,
to commune in the deepest of ways,
to trust with heart and home,
to surrender and submit,
to reveal and give,
to give and give and give,

a mating of souls and an
awakening of ages,
to remember and recall an
ancient rite, a sacred rite,
an eternal rite,

in a time before time when this
land was young a vow and bond
was given and made in blood
oath and life vow, a ring of
warriors, a circle of friends,
a tribe of tribes, under a full
moon and speaking stars in the
desert they gathered to shed to
bare skin and smooth form to
dance with ritual, to reclaim
a world lost in chaos and fear,

to reclaim what was lost,
to reclaim what was forgotten,
to reclaim what was left,
to reclaim my own self,

i dream dreams of angels and demons,
creatures of light and darkness,
amidst a shadow'd world,
in the jewel'd realm,
i summon dragon and phoenix,
i do battle in defense of the realm,
i speak my own name,
i speak my true name,

a timeless wonder and mystical vision,
a faery child and song of songs,
i listen and listen,
i feel and feel,
i see and see,

for me, all love is born of caring,
it is a bond forged with the deepest
of caring, caring breeds kindness
and thought and giving and sharing,
nurturing in the deepest of ways,
an empathy of inner worlds communing
beyond words and time bridging worlds
and time, to know and caress another's
hidden dreams, to cherish what another
cherishes, in sickness and in health,
to transcend death and rebirth,
to awaken the immortal,
to awaken our true being,
to awaken,

Well, as you can see, I'm an infrequent visitor, but I do still like to keep poking my nose in once in a while

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

Fun, practice, not enough criticism to discourage me - just enough to keep improving my craft and keep me plugging away at stuff :) If I can encourage other writers at the same time, all the better!

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

Well, my poetry can't improve anything anywhere lol, so I see myself as an mediocre (at best) poet who mainly lurks. If I could, it would be more, but I don't see my poetry getting any better.

*How would you describe your writing?

Poetry: Mildly amusing at times, mainly uninspired with small streaks of worthwhile phrases, though I do put a lot of myself into each one. Stories: More worthy than my poetry.

Well, I think my The Auction and Toby Gets It! stories are alright, and from my poetry... One Moment and Thoughts, Dark and Dreary are marginally readable (although I had the most rollicking time writing Good Thoughts lol)

I've been here at Lit for a few years, but have only recently discovered the forums, and I'm excited about how I've been welcomed. There are truly wonderful people here, and I look forward to meeting many more.

Now that I've gotten the cliches out of the way... :) As you can see, I've already gotten my feet wet, or rather my quill... I'll let the masses be the judge of my style and quality...

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)
I was actually here before, two years ago, and I gained a lot of experience and connections with those I still consider my friends. Back then I was very sensetive to criticism...now I'm almost having to beg for someone to critique my work. I appreciate any suggestions now days, as they are all helpful to my growth and learning.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?
I'm not sure if I'm as good at judging poetry as others, and sometimes I worry about hurting people's feelings. If you ask, though, I'll deffinately give my opinion (just make sure to tell me to be gentle or hard)

*How would you describe your writing?
I suppose I like to write in a way that makes the reader actually feel like he or she is moving. Nautilus is one of these tries...I want whoever is reading it to really feel as if they are curving along with the imagery. I try to leave many details up to the reader's imagination, but not too many...I'm really working on a style, I suppose

suitep here!

Hello all,
My name is suitep- and I've been posting for a few weeks.
In answer to our questions:

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)
I am hoping to gain some voice to my sexual side. I write traditional poems all the time, but have never posted any erotic work until now. I hope to be brutally criticized, guided/goaded into being able to speak clearly about my thoughts, wants, and needs. Mentoring,...that's my hope.

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?
Once I find my sea legs, I hope to be able to volunteer and fill needs as they become available. I am still learning how everything works between the site and the boards, so I am probably still missing out on the bigger picture.

*How would you describe your writing?
Growing. I usually write in a non-traditional style, still centered in meter and rhyme. I try to have a smooth read throughout, however, I am experimenting with more aggressive- more direct tones. I will fall on my face as I experiment, but hope to learn with clear feedback and adapt/improve accordingly.

*Samples of my work?
You can check in on me at any time, with my sincere appreciation for any feedback. Please tell me what's right and what's wrong...I accept it all.

hayyy guys, checking in

*What you hope to get out of your time at lit (please include level of critique you are looking for)

I have so far and hope to continue getting the one thing all burgeoning writers need: encouragement. The crit is great, the banter is witty, but the encouragement is the real heart of the beast. NOT TO SAY I want blind praise, I am just expressing the love.

I prefer actual criticism to nit-picking. i find poetry more fluid grammatically and with the exception of obvious spelling mistakes, if I put something in the wrong place, i knew what i was doing. I want to know how the poem makes you feel, not argue with you over colons and semi-colons. I do that all day at school :)

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?

I like to think I'm the hung-over punk. Wandering into your yards at 6 a.m. looking like shit, then shuffling off to puke in an alley, but leaving some great memories behind.

I would like to be more active on the boards now that I finally have the free time and dedication.

*How would you describe your writing?

Crosseyed & painless

As a happily medicated schizo, I have seen some sights, and I am still not sure which are excess neurons, if you follow me. I want to write it all down. I never want to forget the horror and the beauty of that inner world.

I want to share my poetry with the Literotica community and enjoy other poets' work. Would be looking for a wide range of criticism.

My poetry and useful criticism for other poets

My poetry is honest and emotional. I write from the heart. Whereas I write stories to entertain. I love the absurd and like to challenge the perceptions of the norm.

I don't really have any favorite poems or stories. I enjoy everything that I write!

I am a relatively new poet, I do not know a lot about how poetry should be written. When I write it tends to be from raw emotion.

What I hope to get out of your time at lit
1 I would like to grow as poet. So I can learn how to write poetry properly and not the way I do at present.
2 Hopefully people will be honest about my poetry abd say what they feel (good or bad) as this will help me improve.
3 The main reason is just to enjoy what I write and hopefully what others do as well.

What do I hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do I see yourself playing here?
As far as my role here go's I will post what poetry I write and hopefully get some opinions as to what others think of my work. Other than that I can't think of another role. Sorry

How would you describe your writing?
Depressing, melodramatic at times but always emotional and personal.

My very first post in the poetry forum!
And it had better be my last post of the night, in any forum... :)

What you hope to get out of your time at lit
I have never considered myself a poetry writer, but I'm proud of my prose skills.
But, I've had two sonnets- sort of happen to me. And it was suggested that one of them could grow into a complete cycle. I'm willing to try it.
And I notice that- in this sonnet, i was able to talk about some non-tangibles- things that I can't write about in my stories, which are immediate and physical. That's a very exciting thought.

What do I hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do I see yourself playing here?
I am passionate about writing, and love watching other writers change and grow- as, I hope, I do myself.

How would you describe your writing?
Eclectic; I write in traditional tones but I feature outrageous subjects.
My work is always consensual, no matter what horrible things my characters are doing- it's always clear that they are enjoying their play, and everyone will respect each other in the morning.

(edited to add this question back into the post- very important!)
level of critique I am looking for
I am trying to write in a classic form. i want a little hand-holding while I pick an dchoose among available words- and, if possible, someone who can keep me in line as far as the meter is concerned. Sometimes, I can't hear it at all.
I hope to find feedback as to my message- is it coming through, or are you scratching your head in bafflement?
And, of course, if it seems that I'm utterly wasting time... Bring on the custard pies! (end of edit)

I’m not really sure, I wanted a place to share some of my words, even the ones I don’t share with close friends. I welcome any level of critique people are willing to give. My “poems” are normally just an outlet for my thoughts or fears and I don’t tend to work them much. But having some critique may urge me to change that. [silly grin]

*What do you hope to contribute to the poetry community at literotica? What role do you see yourself playing here?
I’m so new, I’ve looked around and made a couple of mistakes already… But I hope I can add something of interest. I’m still trying to figure out the etiquette here, once I've done that, maybe I can offer some words to create a smile or a few tears.
