St. T, you're absolutely right -- I do know my way around a Guinness, and a Harp, and a number of local brews as well. (It's amazing that I don't bear more resemblance to a barrel.)

The pubs you mention are all known to me, if not thru personal experience, by reputation. Have to agree with Sufi about Beckett's. It's not quite right for a group of Literoticans. Given the previous outcry against meeting in the East Bay, it would seem that a meet in SF is more apt to draw the North Bay folks.

My vote would be for Ireland's 32 or An Bodhran. Although parking is probably easier on Geary, there's something appropos about a Lit gathering in the Haight, don'cha think?

Shall we shoot for August 3rd around 6'ish at one of the aforementioned pubs?

Saturday, Aug 3 at 6pm works for me. I've never been to An Bodhran but it sounds like a perfect place. What do the rest of you think?

Here are the addresses of the two Irish bars I know of in SF:

Pat O'Shea's Mad Hatter
3848 Geary Boulevard
San Francisco, CA 94118
(between 2nd and 3rd Ave. on Geary)

Irelands 32
3920 Geary Boulevard
San Francisco, CA 94118
(between 3rd and 4th Ave. on Geary)
http://www.irelands32.com/

The former is larger, lots of televisions, pool tables, etc., the latter is VERY Northern Irish (you can insult the Queen to your heart's content) but comfortable. The IRA used to hold fundraisers in the room upstairs!

I am afraid that havign served Queen and Country for 25 years..and also that I have lost many fine friends to the IRA.,...I could never go to a place were the Queen was insulted or where the IRA ever belonged. Any other bar would suit me though...but please...no insulting the Queen.

Hi Ukin,

I have a friend who was a corporal with the British Paratroopers. He served two tours in N. Ireland and survived a direct hit by an RPG on his armored carrier. The only way he would go into Ireland's 32 (and I've asked him) is with a club so I know exactly what you're talking about. It sounds like An Bodhran is definitely the better choice.

St. T
...promising not to insult the Queen.

Hi St. T,

I only did three tours, but the first was absolute hell, the third even worse. I lost two mates in the first and 7 in the third one.
To go into that place with a club is being kind...I'd take an AKK!

Thanks for the comment about the Queen too, appreciated. Even though I live here, I am a staunch Royalist.

Yep, the An Bodhran does sound best choice lol. I will keep popping back to see when and the times..once it's all firmed up.

P.S.

OTV, you can enjoy the view to your heart's content. I'm vain enough to admit that I get a kick out of that kind of attention. Good for the old ego.

All the same here. I hunger for the snippets of attention that come from another, who can admire, but also desire. Oh, there is no need to feed the ego, just feed the senses and that is all that is required. Besides, I can afford to be smug and have no problems showing off or telling another off. Then there are great debates of all acts of salacious vices.

Basically, if there is a bit of being tipsy, and a crowd that would dare me…

Mmmmm... $10 words, eh, OTV? Salacious. I think I prefer lascivious. And as for feeding the senses, I'm all for a heady brew. Guinness and a parlor full of men. A gourmand's delight. Truly!

I'll look forward to seeing you all on Saturday evening at An Bodhran. I'll be the redhead wearing a white carnation. ;)

Sufi? You out there?

Looks wicked to me about Saturday, but do we have a concrete time? The Haight seems wonderful -- a balance of old hippie and modern indie. Well, I don't want to rant or rave about what is yet to come, however, I do look forward to meeting new people and being my other half as the night slips away…

Until then, and see you all there!

$10 dollars says I flash my…

:), ha!

Does anybody know what time it is?

St. T proposed 6'ish -- is this an agreeable hour for everyone? I'm at work until 5, so 7 is a more realistic arrival time for me. Gives me time to gussie up. ;)

Only $10, OTV? Hmmm...

An Bodhran

@ 6pm?
I better get my ass in gear!

Saturday in the Haight

Interesting place, An Bodhran. Small, deep green and Irish to the core; right down to the bartender named Mick, who graciously chalked "Lit Here" on his slate above the Guinness glasses.

Lovely evening, good conversation, nice buns everywhere! Missed those who couldn't make it.

Damn it..I have just tuned into this Thread again, and to see that I missed the meeting..oh well..maybe there will be another one.

An Bodhran

I thot his name was Brian?
hoppin place, huh Huntress?
I checked, Bubman, Brian/Mick(???) was happy to serve you your hearts desire as long as it came from a bottle or tap. Including bud.

Yes we'll have to do this again sometime Ukin. Easily done.
You ladies were hot!
now I have faces to relate to!
knowing each other - face to face- means we are KNOWN.
deep seated human need- that has its effect even if we trivialize or marginalize our need.

Oops...

Brian/Mick? Darn, Sufi, how did I make that mistake? I know all Irishmen do not look alike. ;)

Brian

He was med build, warm eyes, genuine smile, red hair, whispy growth on his face...sexy perhaps...not nearly as attractive or sexy as,..say, myself, for instance.

looks like we missed it

We are couple in the South Bay...sorry we missed it. We get up to San Fran at least once a month, usually more. We we are making a lot of runs to So Cal over the next few months, LA area, Irwindale. Keep us in mind.

Later, from Me

TTFN, dears from me

missed it

Sorry, naughtycpl,
we would have loved to meet you.
bound (!) to do it again.

Sorry I had to miss it.

Had to entertain family...

They're gone now.

Keep me posted on the next one, though, sounds like you've settled on a great spot!

I look (appear) far from "Irish," but perhaps there will be another time, soon, where we can meet and just become more familiar beyond the screen. There are so many events in SF and it would be lovely to see how we interact offline. Anyway, I wish I could have been there, but the initial choices would be fantastic.

*We are on Lit, but we can go beyond or not even have to embrace it -- in all it's crooked expectations are misconceptions, hmmm?

Then again…

hi folks

OTV,
we were looking for you at An Bodhran. Actually, we were looking, well, Huntress was looking at all the boy's butts hoping to recognize a pair. Alas, to no avail!

Another get together is definitely called for.

Regarding why....
It's no different from any online community that has gotten to know each other as phosphors on a screen. One comes to wonder: "Who is this person really?"

Wanna find out?

Another time, and another place. I will be there and willing to just mull over some fun or what ever fits the moment. Iwould love to have met you guys and gals, but I had other duties to tend to. Now, as for comparing butss, mine needs no furter than a few drinks and a dare…

Until then, and BTW, feel free to just PM or say hello, it's easy and fun. Should life not be so simple?
