Sarah Palin

I wasn't going to leave my humor thread but I have something I want to say.

If the person you want to win the election were running in the opposing party, Obama a rep and Mccain a Dem or either an Ind. Would they still get your vote. That's how I pick my choices.

I like this Palin woman. Not because she's a rep but because she speaks her mind. She belives in creationism. Good, so do I. She isn't forcing it on the schools, she's speaking her opinion. Piss on the separation of church and state. The people who always bring it up don't seem to give a rats ass anyway. How many of them were force to hear religon in school?

She believes in the bible and Obama says he doesn't know what to belive in the bible. Does that make him a better person or choice than her? Not in my book it doesn't.

She wants the polar bear off the endangered species list. So What. Hell I didn't know it was even on it. A lot of you probably didn't either. She didn't say she had open season on killing polar bear. Where do some of you get this shit.

She says Alaska has lots of oil and natural gas and the people in Alaska are behind her. Whats the problem here?

She isn't pro choice. Ok, what did she say that would affect you? If she said she was pro choice instead of pro life would she be your chose? Probably not, you would just look for something else negative about her.

Her son joined the Military and she has a child with downs syndrome. Does either of those make her a negative canidate in your eyes? It makes me respect her all the more.

I don't expect this post to change any opinions. I wonder how many of us can face the scrutiny you want to put her through and come out looking as good.

That's all I have to say. I will now go back to my humor thread.
With respect
DG Hear :)

Here's a missquote for you;

Governor Palin, I supported Hillary Clinton: I campaigned for Hillary Clinton; Hillary Clinton spoke to my principles. Governor, you're no Hillary Clinton.

:D

You've certainly convinced me!

Yes, they will.

You are assuming that one woman can just plug in for another. I am not going to vote for one vagina just because I can't vote for another.

You are essentially saying that a woman's beliefs and qualifications, her education and her morals mean nothing. She's a woman, so we should be happy. That thinking is the greatest insult to women that I can remember in recent American politics.

So then we shouldn't care about whether particular organizations and institutions have more or fewer women. All those newspaper articles about increases or decreases in the relative numbers of female legislators or lawyers or whatever are actually insults to women.

I may be cool with that - wanna think about it some, though.

Petty.

And you completely missed the point.

But the second part was on purpose, I suppose.

When you get right down to it there is only one issue for me. Trust. Who do I trust more. McCain hands down. Obama keeps dodging, voting present on cotroversial issues is not something to be proud of. I trust Gov. Palin more than I could ever trust a psuedo-Catholic, if you can't follow the teachings of your own Church how can you be trusted? He would be more believable if he left the Church.

I just wish religion wasn't an issue in politics. (It isn't in other countries.)

How many of those so-called conservative faithful have cheated on their spouses, lied about finances, corrupted their offices?

How can they claim faith?

In reality there is very little honesty to be found among Congresscritters. Sad but true.
Worse, there is even less common sense. If common sense was dynamite, the entire population inside the beltway couldn't generate enough force to blow one nose!
If you want to solve the problem vote against all incumbents for the next 4 elections or so. Throw the bums out, replace them with people who have done some kind of productive work. Lawyers don't qualify! I mean mechanics, teachers, doctors, small business owners. Professional politicians are a drain on our resources. The constitution made no provision for a permanent ruling class. They are supposed to go to Washington, get the work done and return home to "real" jobs. Why do you think they built Washington in a malarial swamp??

Aren't you cute!
And aren't you wrong. On purpose; I'm sure you know better.

I am cute! Whether I'm wrong depends on the extent to which artificial constraints limit women's opportunities to participate in various institutions - obviously a bad thing if present. I just posted a new thread with some interesting insights on that - "Is There Anything Good About Men?" Check it out.

You are mistaking nuance for insincerity. As far too many of our citizens do.

Well, I suppose McCain can be trusted to make his votes. Pity he makes around 90% of them in concert with Bush's desires.

I'd have to be able to trust him to vote the (IMO) right way, and I don't.

I have you on ignore, sweets, because I really don't come here for political threads-- there are people who start nothing but, and I like to keep my porn forum porny...

Well put me on "virtual ignore" not real ignore, because that thread is not political but sociological and anthropological, and you will find it interesting.

And I've done the same after that last post.

I'm just so tired. Lit is supposed to be my playground away from stress.

I'm not too good with virtual ignore, honestly. But I'll sneak in the back door. ;)

St. Henry's quip actually reads:
"No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have researched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby."

[This Mencken quote originally appeared in an article entitled "Notes On Journalism" printed in the September 19, 1926 issue of "The Chicago Tribune". It can be found also on page 121 of his essay, "A Gang of Pecksniffs".]

The trouble with them is not only that they won’t and don’t work; the trouble with them, more importantly, is that the thing they propose to accomplish is intrinsically, or at all events most probably, beyond accomplishment. That is to say, the problem they are ostensibly designed to solve is a problem that is insoluble. To tackle them with a proof of that insolubility, or even with a colorable argument of it, is sound criticism; to tackle them with another solution that is quite as bad, or even worse, is to pick the pocket of one knocked down by an automobile.

Yes, thank you TS - the quote I posted, attributed to Mencken, but I think the paraphrase was actually spoken by a Hollywood exec or a politician.

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:
• She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
• Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
• She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
• Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
• She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5
• She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
• How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7

This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family.

We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:

She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK

As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK

Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK

I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

So Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced.

In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country.

In the next few days, many Americans will be wondering what McCain's vice-presidential choice means. Please pass this information along to your friends and family.

Thanks for all you do.

Again, she bolsters McCain support among extreme right wingers, religious and social conservatives, presumably, she'll allow McCain to be on top, i.e., she's an anti-feminist.

The fact that she's a woman mainly serves to short circuit the perception of an otherwise very clear republican bias towards OWG's that might alienate younger women - McCain has very little pull among younger voters, particularly women.

And if the man kicks the bucket during his term, the little lady can get herself lots of fatherly advisers.

She does seem very intelligent with strong opinions.

I imagine it's going to piss off the old guard when she begins offering her opinion on campaign topics. :D

Interesting thought. Have you read Terry Pratchett's Pyramids where the sexy little handmaiden ends up as pharaoh and starts to kick serious ass? Who knows what the future will bring?

With her ultra-conservative stance against a woman's right to choose and for teaching creationism in schools I'll have to hope this won't come to pass, VM.

A shame. She's spunky.

Misguided, but spunky.
