Sarah Palin

No darlin, what really makes her a problem are people like DG Hear. I take it you have not read his post, which is a pretty good sample of why people will vote for her.

Yep.

And a very nice guy, he is. :rose:

But he doesn't have all of the facts, just enough from FOX News and the talking points to think he does.

They do a very nice job with the spin, don't they?

Addendum to my previous: Evidence of my assertion that limited-government reformers are really popular in this center-right nation is this governor's unheard-of 80 percent favorability rating. That's also evidence of the low salience of the hot-button issues that have most of "the usual suspects" here all excited. Those issues probably matter a lot to only 40 percent of the population, half of whom are hard-lefties and half hard-righties. Guess who the lefties are? The Move-On crowd who sent the email Stella posted. They are the 20 percent of Alaskans who don't approve of this governor. That low percentage is why she's going to give you all, Obama, and the Dems fits for the next two months, or eight years - or 16 years: Not only do the 20 percent on the hard-right like her type, but so do the 60 percent in the middle.

Possibly but this part of the middle is still reserving judgement. I'm not fully happy with the positions of either party and am trying to read between the blurbs to find out what might really happen if each is elected.

Alaska is a mighty red state, no argument there.
Her approval rating in Alaska doesn't mean much to me when I think about the rest of the nation.

It may be, but it's certain that 80 percent of the population does not share all those social conservative positions that have lefties here excited - things like willingness to allow intelligent design to be taught alongside evolution in schools, opposition to gay marriage, and to abortion. The fact that she has an 80 percent approval rating demonstrates that for all that they get the 20 percent on either end of the political spectrum excited, those in the middle care more about other issues and/or characteristics. That will carry to the rest of the nation.

Yep, they like it that she has a Downs syndrome child and one going into the service-- that's a good reason to put her in a position of authority.

They like that she favors lowering property and other taxes, and that she's not part of what they (correctly) believe to be a self-serving, inbred political establishment - whichever party is in control. You better believe that will carry over outside Alaska.

And You think if McCain wins half the execs at NBC won't go out the window?
Talk about spin!

Oh, I'm not getting in another argument about FOX News vs. everyone else. :)

I put FOX in the same place as Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace.

Completely biased flame-inciting nonsense.

That's the problem. They think they are using their power for good.

Nothing, and especially not facts, are going to stand in the way of making America into something pure and good.

Brrrr.

I think I saw that movie.

On the late, late show.

Is that the one with Martin Sheen saying "The birds are in the air. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!"

Because that was one of the scariest scenes I ever saw in a movie.

That was even scarier than it was in the book.

(He also said - "My Destiny.")

*shudder*

In fact, he said that this election wasn't about him at all.

It was about us.

A nice line but common, garden-variety political phrasing. I'm not faulting him, by the way, political phrasing is what politicians use. I'm just not inspired. Decent man as is his opponent. Still reserving judgement.

Good.

Personally, I couldn't give a shit what type of speech-giver they are.

I just need to know how their presidency is going to affect my children.

And McCain will cause undue hardship to my daughter, especially if he elects ultra-conservatives to the Supreme Court, as he may do during the next eight years.

For this and other reasons - No. Fucking. Way.

Reduce concern, Sarahh. Remember, even if McCain wins he'll almost certainly have a Democratic congress, especially Senate to deal with and they are unlikely to approve another Scalia to the Court. That's what American government is all about, tension and compromise . . . usually. I never like to see both ends of Pennsylvania Ave in the same party.
