Mab in post #1566 reflects poorly on all the old hippies that seem to thrive in the manure of the left anti war folks.

Mab also exhibits selective memory loss in reference to the beginning of the cold war in the Berlin era when the Soviets crushed eastern Europe under the spiked boots of socialism.

Then of course, the attempt to expand international communism in Korea, also an undeclared war in which 30 nations lost young men fighting both the Russian arms and both Russian and Chinese pilots in the Migs.

It was the South East Asia Treaty Organization, SEATO, that rose to combat communism throughout Asia and did in fact bankrupt the soviet union in the arms race.

The middle east is another can of worms, but also with the Soviets involved in the attacks on Israel following the UN declaration that divided Palestine and created a nation for displaced Jewish people from both Nazi and Communist oppression.

Still, the middle east became a surrogate conflict between the superpowers, the Soviets and the Americans as the Russians attempted to sway middle east nations into communism with arms and money and supplies.

Of course the anti war pukes continue to whine as again coalition forces, more than thirty nations, attempt to free nations in the middle east from Islamic oppression.

Our poor little beleagured semi socialists here on the forum and elsewhere continue to grasp at straws to bolster their desire for a socialist world.

Kinda pathetic, doncha think?

;)

I'm referring to dr_mabeuse. He ended up on my Ignore List after a debate where he was an a-hole. I tend do that to people who not only make poor arguments, but also defend things that I find despicable. It was a long time ago, but I think the topic at the time was weed.

Laughing. REALLY laughing.

Wait, don't tell me what happened.

He said it was okay to smoke dope. You disagreed.

Makes perfect sense to put him on ignore, then.

It's interesting that you call him brainless.

Now, ami.

Don't get yourself started on selective memory.

You know you have issues with your own.

I don't know if it was memory loss or not, but he did seem to forget about the Korean conflict and the defeat by Anglo-American forces of Communist inspired rebels in the Malay Peninsula and the Philippines. It would be hard to pin down the date the Cold War started, but the first part was the occupation of most of Eastern Europe by the Soviet Union, and the takeover of their governments. Some of those nations had been members of the Axis, but Poland and Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia were not.

Korea and Vietnam were quite similar in that, using Soviet weapons, the northern part of a divided country invaded the southern part. In Korea, there was no Ho Chi Minh Trail and the government of South Korea was honest and stsunch enough to participate in the defeat of the invaders. In addition, there was no equivalent of the Viet Cong to contend with, and no Bill Ayers and his ilk trying to hamstring their own nation.

Personally, I think a Socialist world would be a terrible thing. Since there would be no incentive to work hard and for people to do their best, there would be strict rationing of food and other commodities, such as they have in Cuba, and even more bureaucrats than we have now. I don't know of any nation where Socialism has done well for an extended period of time. Perhaps somebody can tell me of one.

In 1995, President Clinton mandated new regulations that coerced banks to make significantly more subprime loans to inner-city residents previously viewed as unqualified buyers in high-risk areas. Banks were rated on how well they complied and faced big fines if they didn't do what government regulators wanted.
So which was it? Coerced or rated?

Interesting history on the CRA - imagine, expecting taxpayer insured institutions to help people who need it.

Further legislation in 1999, 2005 and 2007 exempted many more banks from CRA review, while increasing the number of non CRA confoming loans Fannie and Freddie could buy, and in any case, it appears that the most egregious cases of defaults remain spec tracts, entire brand spankin' new developments sitting empty, and this has been going on for a lot longer than a few months, I saw a special on it more than year ago - those low interest rates musta been a "perverse incentive", whataya think Rox?

It's not our fault!!! It were dem dakies!!!

The Limbaughtomized will buy it of course, but really, I can't believe even you believe this bullshit.

I don't quite understand why the Liberals, democrats, left wingers, call them as you may, accept 'affirmative action' and the quota system which elevates women and minorities over more qualified applicants in the job market and for university acceptance and then will not accept that the affirmative action mentality was used in the mortgage market.

Thas right, folks, the power of the federal government was used to force banks and lending institutions to loan to less qualified buyers for social reasons. So, lefties, why not admit it and even feel pride in the effort to help the lower class?

I bet if one did the research one could find that the college loans that have been forfeited are mostly women and minorities who were given preferential treatment.

Ain't socialism jes wunnerful?

A full twenty percent of the CRA loans, lobbied by ACORN, the Obama financed community service organization, defaulted. three times the rate of better qualified borrowers.

So...take that and run with it if you can...you lose either way.

Amicus....;)

Proof and sources, please.

Oh wait....that's just part of your racist, woman-hater rant that you constantly pull out of your ass.

My bad.

eta: you don't get "preferential treatment" for college loans, you dweeb. It's based on need alone. Shows exactly how much you know.

Oh, and this will give you a great big ol' Texas wedgie: I'm both female AND a minority, and I paid my college loans off within three years of graduation - well ahead of schedule. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Suppose for the sake of argument, the facts are somewhat as ami suggests. That some groups did have higher default rates. This would be no means be sufficient to induce the present crisis; it was the bundling of mortagages by the banks, and their trading in complex mortgag based derivatives that helped cause the crisis; also the false ratings of these derivatives as AAA, or 'risk free,', which as Buffett noted, was a fable.

the *insurance* of investments with AIG is another aspect of the problem.

in all, it's a Republican fable that efforts to put the poor into houses of their own--and effort endorsed by GWB on many occasions--is a basic cause of the present crash.

Hitchens on Sarah (as part of obama endorsement)

The most insulting thing that a politician can do is to compel you to ask yourself: "What does he take me for?" Precisely this question is provoked by [McCain's] selection of Gov. Sarah Palin. I wrote not long ago that it was not right to condescend to her just because of her provincial roots or her piety, let alone her slight flirtatiousness, but really her conduct since then has been a national disgrace.

It turns out that none of her early claims to political courage was founded in fact, and it further turns out that some of the untested rumors about her—her vindictiveness in local quarrels, her bizarre religious and political affiliations—were very well-founded, indeed. Moreover, given the nasty and lowly task of stirring up the whack-job fringe of the party's right wing and of recycling patent falsehoods about Obama's position on Afghanistan, she has drawn upon the only talent that she apparently possesses.

For those following this mess, you know it is complex and many layered and beyond my patience at this moment to document the history, but it has been made relatively clear and has been acknowledged by most.

And true, those unqualified borrowers, pushed by ACORN, and the democrats would not have been sufficient to undermine the entire economy. However, Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac provided the breach in the dam that allowed the speculators and other nefarious profit seekers to ride the crest of the wave that eventually, tsunami like, broke upon an unsuspecting world and created the worst financial crisis in near history.

Thanks Liberals, your good intentions gone awry again. Next time just make a contribution to the Red Cross and salve your conscience in that manner.

Amicus...

But she is protected from witchcraft. That ought to be worth something.

There must be a gob or anti depressants and anti anxiety meds being gobbled by the ladies of Lit and others, who find a conflict in the pro life stance of Gov. Palin and the fact that she is the first woman who has a chance to become Vice President of the United States of America.

Imagine that!

And a leg up in 2012 or 2016 for the Presidency!

Such a pity that the feminist movement seems hoist by its own petard.

Perhaps you might be asking why affirmative action and help with homeownership are needed - then again, I think you probably already know - even when you cannot openly admit that your guttersnipe racism is merely the vocal component of organized, institutional tyranny against your fellow man, and the only justification for government is to protect the individual against tyranny, something you pretend to believe in when it suits you.

Poor fucking put-upon whitey, tell me what the college graduation rates are for Blacks vs. Whites.

Your "pro-life" candidate openly threatened the opposing candidate for president, she's a fucking ghoul.

Another GB reject bringing obscenity to the AH; no wonder Roxanne asked for a semblance of civility in these exchanges.

It is not just America; the world has a racial problem, and has since before recorded history.

The left has no concern in racial equality, none whatsoever, they just want the votes of a people that vote 90 percent for the same party every time.

This go round it will likely be closer to 95 percent. I think a fair rebuttal would be if women voted 95 percent for Palin.

Howd'ya like them apples?

Amicus...
