It is a responsible decision. No woman does it for the fun of it and the decision may impact their lives forever. And men need to be responsible for their actions. A woman should not be responsible for a man's actions nor held accountable for them.

I think this is an assault on the poor and on minorities as well. I have no statistics to quote but I imagine the majority of abortions are done by women living in poverty or near poverty. Another child will push them and their children deeper into poverty and despair.

This SCOTUS decision makes me embarrassed to be an old white man.

Side bar: I think Clarence Thomas is proof the term "old white man" is not in any way racial disparity. He is one.

And yes, this SCOTUS opinion is much more draconian for women of color, young women, women with insufficient economic means. Women of means have always and will always be able to travel/pay for safe abortion care.

What a woman choses to do with her body is her choice, she has to live with the repercussions of her choice. It should not be legislated.

That being said, I believe abortion should not be used as birth control. Women need to be responsible for their actions. Now I am not talking true rape. I am not talking times when the child will have zero meaningful life or will die. I am not talking when childbirth will end in death for mom or child. I am talking about having unprotected sex and using abortion to get rid of the consequences of that. I do not agree with that.

However, it is not up to me or anyone else to tell another woman that she can't. That is her decision alone. She will live with that decision the rest of her life.

And most of us don’t regret it a bit. My ex and I didn’t want a third child. We conceived despite using two types of birth control together. When I suggested abortion, I was worried only about how he would respond or feel. Would he hate me for saying it? He immediately looked so relieved and said, “would you?” I never thought I would, but I found myself in that situation and I did. He went with me and we terminated the pregnancy. And like the overwhelming majority of women in the same position, the only repercussion I’ve ever felt was relief. Not wanting to put your body through the pregnancy and delivery and not wanting a (or another) child are valid reasons to abort.

ETA: Abortion IS a responsible decision.
