Sex in a post apocalyptic world

I'm looking for ideas to enhance my story set in a post-apocalyptic world.

I'd like to explore what person (or people) you'd want to have sex with, in what situations, and what kinks you'd fulfill in a world that's ended.

For me, I'd want to be with someone I knew before the apocalypse….. someone I never had a chance to hook up with back then. But after the world ends, we fuck like bunnies in the mountains and by the lakes. Maybe we even start a small family. Until one day, her partner returns, revealing he survived. She goes back to him, but there's still lingering love and sexual tension between us, making things complicated.

It's similar to what happened in the early seasons of The Walking Dead.

Give me some ideas. Anything goes. Any category, from erotic coupling to non-con, cheating, cuckolding, breeding, voyeurism, and beyond.

I have been playing in my head a bit with some ideas in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Mostly I would think of how groups would settle and what would the rules of that new settlement be. The walking dead touches on this by having different groups with different rules.

How about a story about a large settlement where people are seperated into leaders and followers, where leaders can steal followers from each other by challange. Maybe a man, his wife and step-daughter join this settlement since the alternative is death in the wasteland outside. When asked who their leader is, he is chosen as the leader of the small group. However this causes him to immediately lose his wife in a challange, later on he goes back to challange for his wife, but he loses again. Now having lost his Step-daughter as well, he needs a plan to win them back. The story could be about that 'quest'.

Also if you like post-apocalyptic stories, my favorite Visual Novel is 'Desert Stalker' which takes place in a post apocalyptic setting, maybe check it out if you need inspiration.

But it's not just the type of apocalypse that would dictate how the story unfolds. What also will impact it is what state the world was in when the apocalypse occurred. Was it our world? A world of magic, where different species co-existed? A completely alien world, where the starting species wasn't human, or it was a human colony that imploded for one reason or another: starvation because Earth mysteriously stopped sending the supplies they needed, an alien virus, an alien species does a drive-by for no good reason other than it's funny, it turns out the water they've been drinking had a contamination that took many years to finally show itself and only a few people are truly immune.

Are the survivors more or less physically healthy? Have they been impacted physically by the apocalypse? If they started human, do they stay human, or do they mutate? How much infrastructure is left intact? You can have an apocalypse with a massive solar storm that fries all electronic à la the Carrington Event on steroids, so you have all this useless bricked tech lying around.

It sounds like what you're shooting for is a population-collapse scenario. So you'll want either a very large population to start with, or a very concentrated, but smaller population where people knew each other. You'll want enough room for the love interest to have been separated from their partner, but not so big that their partner never finds them again.

The other main consideration is how many people are in this group that's holed up. Is it just the MC and their family? Or are there others? Do they build out something, grow a community, and somehow the old partner hears about it and either knows their partner's involved or it's entirely coincidental? If it's just them all by themselves and no one else, you'll need to consider how the old partner was able to find them. There probably will have to be contact with other survivors, and maybe this old partner has been searching for years/decades, grasping at straws, and finally catches a lucky break. Or so they think...


I'm partial to mutagenic virus starts turning people part animal, and exploring the interplay between their old societal norms and the more feral instincts that come into play depending on the species. Definitely more niche, though.

I suspect that in a post-apocalyptic world, sex would be used as currency, and traded for food, water, shelter, etc. It would be crude, violent, and tawdry, with no trace of love or tenderness. Just survival.

I might have an abandoned for now WIP along those lines, but it doesn't have a complete societal collapse. So I'm not sure I'd call it post apocalyptic...

But maybe I should. There was certainly a massive die off from those that didn't survive the change, a lot of orphans, and noticeably more of one gender than the other. Society is going through a huge shuffle and laws are being enacted and changed.

But, the infrastructure will be intact, and law and order does still exist, so is that an apocalypse?

With post apocalyptic settings I have found it interesting comparing fiction to comparable scenarios, like disasters.

A lot of postapocalyptic works act like society falls and IMMEDIATELY the cannibal leather workers who have a surprisingly large supply of hair dye come out.

But in real life disasters you often see a lot of community and helpers after they happen. People run from house to house, donations and support come from all over the world.

So I think it would be fun to explore the latter:

Let’s say zombie apocalypse or a catastrophic natural phenomenon.

Community or town is cut off and only decades later does anyone try and reintegrate them into the fold. Everyone wrote them off as a lost cause that would descend into looting…but no. The city came together. With zombies: they divided up responsibilities including zombie disposal. Natural disaster: people shared what they had and divided things up.

When it comes to sex, people become a bit more open. As modern society breaks down, values change a bit. Sex workers provide a valuable service and are respected for helping keep up morale. Polycules form for more intimacy and people take more of a village vs family approach

So maybe the real conflict is when the new society comes back and tries to demand they conform to old standards

Apocalypse comes and people hear about some wild empire that is forming. It looks like Mad Max: leather, wild costumes, loud engines.

Guy goes there and finds his ex there…his bi ex. Who reveals what’s going on: the apocalypse hit in June so Pride festivities got interrupted. In the early days churches tried to throw blame onto the queer community so all the leather daddies, drag queens, kinksters, gay bikers and everyone came together and dressed themselves up like a Mad Max gang. So they’ve been going town to town liberating queer groups while keeping up the act.

Whenever I think of a post-apocalyptic world I think mostly of sex bargaining and noncon stuff. If I were to read a post-apocalyptic story, I'd like it to be like a series of unfortunate events. Things are only good for so long before another guy or guys kill the one I'm with and I have new situations to try and survive. I'll like it to start positive but slowly the situations get more extreme. No single guy seems to be able to keep me safe. Nearer the end I'd like to feel fine with forced exposure while serving and group noncon. I'm really only fine with it because at least now I'm staying is safe, fed regularly and treated mostly okay.

First, you have to accept that survivors would be a small percentage of the population and anyone you knew probably wouldn't be among them.

After the atomic winter, my part of the world became a barren wasteland. I had survived, but for what? I had no family, no home, no life. The day the first bomb dropped Samantha rang me to tell me to get underground. She knew this was the beginning of the end, she tried to get back to me to a place that would have been safe but she never made it. Our youngest daughter and her family were away on holiday and should have been safe but I have to assume the worst

My eldest daughter and her girlfriend were both in the hospital having babies but then Exeter was hit there was no rhyme or reason Exeter was flattered. Russia, America Israel, Pakistan, India, China, England, Iran, and every other nation contributed to this deverstatation.

The sky was the brightest blue I had ever seen and the sun the brightest. The earth was quiet for the first time in millen.

But what happens now that I am alone in this world.

There was a story I read a while back, think I found it on kindle unlimited or something.
Post apocalyptic setting, the world was freezing over, society mostly died off except for small settlements of survivors.
It took place maybe 5 or so years after the freeze if I remember correctly.
For the most part, if the people you cared about weren't with you when, or shortly after the freeze happened, odds are you'd never see them again.


In the "society" that came into being as people traveled settlement to settlement, sex was a currency, in addition to normal bartering and scavenging. A woman could offer her body to someone in exchange for protection, escort to a different location, etc.
