I am not going to argue cultural iconography. I trace Thanksgiving back to Lincoln, who, in one of the darkest periods in our country, asked people to set aside a day to be thankful for what they have. I can adore that concept.

Oh nooo. I can see that it’s moderately clever of them to fill the voids left behind by Spirit Halloween, but I still kinda hate it. Also, one of the best things about visiting small towns in the winter months is that they inevitably have a little shop full of beautiful and unique handcrafted ornaments that big box stores could never!

There’s something thematically correct about spirit Halloween stores infesting the rotting corpses of consumer capitalism.

Doing it for Christmas isn’t really wrong, given how commercial the holiday has become, but it doesn’t feel as appropriate to me.
