If I remember correctly (from TV Tropes diving), the third film said Death sends the visions, then the the fourth reconned that even avoiding your death and Death coming after you is "all part of the plan," all built in by Fate. Which seems worse.

Either way, Death is an asshole.

Have you ever seen Theater of Blood? Early 70s horror comedy. Vincent Price plays a horrible Shakespearean actor who starts murdering his critics using methods out of Shakespeare plays. It is campy and funny and has jet black humor. And Price hamming it up is a joy.

Well, they had fun putting hints in for each death, or at least they used to. James Wong, the director, had a wicked dark sense of humor in The X-Files and Millennium episodes he worked on.
