Single story tags

I recently noticed that the "Tags" page has a section for "Single Story Tags", which features stories that are the only ones with that tag. So I decided to tag the third chapter of my story (now in pending) with one totally unique tag.

Has anyone else posted a story with a tag that is unique? Or has a favorite from another author they'd like to share? I thought this would be a fun way to highlight and share stories that try something original.

I think a lot of people try to add unique tags. But what reader is going to search for your unique tag?

I settled on using common tags for most of my ten options, then adding two or three that are more specific to the story. They may be unique, maybe not. I don't check.

I think of tags as means for readers to find the types of stories they're looking for, whether through active search or by navigating from similar stories with similar tags. I'm not sure I see the upside to unique tags.

Uncommon tags can be helpful, if you have a niche story element that some folks might really enjoy. (I have a story tagged 'orc,' for instance.)

I wouldn't give a story an inaccurate or misleading tag just to make sure it has a unique tag, but if you write a story with a hitherto-unexplored element in it (were-gecko romance), go ahead and tag it even if you're the first.

One of my stories has the tag 'I wrote this for my cat'. Not that they appreciate such things. No one is likely to search for it, but if they happen to notice it while perusing the other tags and go, "WTF?" then my mission was a success.

I don't like tags and wish there weren't any, it would be so much simpler. But they have two functions, which really don't overlap at all. One is for search: some poor sod is one-handedly typing virgin or non-con or indian or milf hoping to strike gold. The other use is for those few individuals who know there's a hidden button once you've clicked into a story, and if you hit this you get a selection which can be as unique as you like if they help inform or warn you what's ahead: clothing mixup, yachting, girl meets boy, brass rubbing fetish, could be anything.

I tend to use two types. The generic (sexual act, kink, etc.) and the more unusual (location, idiosyncratic term) that just might either pique interest in a search or (more hopefully) let a reader discover a forgotten but enjoyed tale.

The number of queries in the 'Looking for a story' arena that would be answered with a search with the second type is substantial.

I had “dumplings” as a unique tag for one of my stories, but now I see that @StrentWriter has recently slapped it on another installment of his Peta series.

Quite a few times. Mostly because the a lot of the existing tags are too general. Example: there's no Header Tag for bisexual and my latest story is about a 3some with MMF. The closest description was Gay, which it isn't, or maybe Group.

In erotic horror a human may well be nommed at some point, but I feel the tag underplays the gravity of the situation

Fairly sure my tags "deserves all the one bombs it gets" and "woke as fuck" only appear on my stories.

Huh, my first story here was a simple romance where no lesbian vampires with big black cocks weed on dom/sub milfs, it was just a couple of people walking their dogs in the park. I agonized a wee bit over tags and couldn't justify any more than 'dogs' and 'park'. I knew it was a bit suicidal. But turns out there are lots of stories using those.

Yes, scrolling down to the end of the tags page shows ten random 'single story tags', which link directly to the stories. These can be silly typos, niche couplings, obscure themes. I thought it was an interesting site feature, haven't seen one like it before.

I actually use a unique tag "Dhase" to tie together the various stories that all take place in one of my worlds. I still have yet to investigate and implement the series feature, and two decades ago it didn't exist, so I had to have a way to let people know they were connected. The word itself is the term for vampires in the setting, and was one of the first stories posted from that universe on Lit (though I'd been writing in it for years before, just never published).
